I'm giving this a go, as I'm kn Amazon Prime and trying to make most out of a spare and dry C Drama landscape on there. I'm sure there's a reason j never watched this, probably my difficulty with the superficial acting of the FL in almost all of her dramas. I'm sure the drama probably had me cringe tap out as well. Regardless of why younger me noped out, here we go!
I'm surprised there's no baby at the end, what with all the sex and the intimacy implications. From what I understand, with the editing, is that this could have easily been a 16ep drama but was edited down to 11, and many many things are on the editing room floor.
Editing in ep 1 is jarring, down right horrific. Probably cause the ep is barely 30min long.
What have they done.
There is also absolutely NO Reasoning behind her being so enraptured by that silly mask. Am I going to be grasping trying to understand the abrupt whiplash from scene to scene.
I sincerely hope ep 2 improves. This is like one of those 2min ep drama, cut together in to 30min episodes.
This was OK. Nothing very exciting, as I've seen either lead actor more animated and with better chemistry with others in the past. It is still very watchable, if not a little dull in parts, a common thing in Historical that have too many episodes and a little too much filler and contrived dialogue. Very few dramas these days truly need 40 episodes or more. This could have done well being reduced to 35. This drama simply suffers from a little bloating. This is neither actors best work, absolutely not their worst either.
I rated it 8.5, to maintain it's current rating. This is a solid 8.2-8.3 historical that offers nothing new or extraordinary to the genre, but is better than some higher billed recent historical and Xianxia.
I watch Historical and Xianxia to be 'swept away', transported and transformed emotionally. This is not one of those dramas. The leads are only so-so believable as in love or even in-like with each other.
I'm thinking Love in the Pavilion and Love Never Fails dramas are going to not have this level of editing. Something small pops up, like this drama, and proves that good storytelling is everything.
Please, be unafraid in scripts. Don't spoon feed the audience.
This is how you make "Monster of the week" plot lines. The demons had some flesh and plotted-out nicely. It helps when everyone has acting talent. FL is always good, I enjoy everything she's in, it's not that common with platable female leads these days.
This drama doesn't suffer from anything. It's a well plotted mid-range drama and I really liked the end. It has better cast and editing than many bigger tier dramas these days.
More dramas need to be unafraid and have a finale the lessons and morals of the drama asks for. It absolutely SHOULD be a level of anxiety, a finale can be beautiful in many different ways. I don't always want to be spoon fed.
There are so MANY great historical costume dramas with beautiful and stunning cinematography. For example The…
I think I Tried to watch Blossom, I don't know what happened there and why I dropped it. I tried to like Love of the Divine Tree, but it was so-so. Divine Tree is 'tree fruit girl' right? I think maybe it was Deng Wei being stale that had me drop it. It tends to take me longer to update my watch list when I've dropped something. I basically have watched every costume/Xianxia drama since 2012, bar some I dropped. This is why I'm looking for up-coming.
Rumored to be Love in Pavilion next on IQIYI. Don't know if that is still S tier level after FSMM1 did so poorly…
Yea I dropped the first one after 5eps, that is unusual. It feels like they just filmed them in a ridiculous rush and production/editing suffered massively. People were also quite oddly cast, but as always I withhold judgement until I see them on screen.
This is good only for the cast. Song Zu Er is the real deal. Countless times bad chemistry or casting of ridiculous actresses make a drama unwatchable, but this woman has range. I see she was cast with at least one familiar face from her drama repertoire in this, the doubtful investigator. He too was excellent in their past shared drama.
What’s the next upcoming S tier Xianxia or Historical guys? It’s been a dry spell since Lost You Forever. If this drama wanted me to watch it, it would have needed to be released in 2015.
I BARELY got through The Glory and A Moment But Forever.

I am going back year to give dramas I dropped a fresh chance, starting with this.
What I mean by that, is that she is a proper actress.

Over all, well done to everyone involved.
