after weeks of watching edits on tiktok, I finally gave in and caught up with all the episodes and so far, jo aram is incredible! what a pleasant surprise, she really is a scene stealer and i'm excited to see what projects she picks from here on out

that being said, I really really liked the angle of yun grooming won and their codependent relationship, it was an interesting but problematic lens considering they made them have an age gap (idr if they had this in untold scandal too). jcw in particular nailed this entire torment in the final episodes, the only reason why I ultimately was generous with my rating for this even though i was torn about it for majority of the time. because we really do not need to find such grandiose excuses and jump through all these hoops to justify a man's actions just because the role is being played by jcw, but the way they went about it here with that man absolutely losing it was fun to see ngl

dangerous liaisons is an ip i will watch in any language and format, which is why i was waiting for this ever since it was announced. I don't know if it's because of the high traffic family friendly actors (specifically syj and jcw), this adaptation is so damn sanitized it pisses me off. and I am not referring to sexual content here, I'm talking about the complexity of the two main characters that are so watered down here. they don't do half of the horrible shit that they did in the source material that was even present in other adaptations in their own unique ways be it the contemporary cruel intentions or even the stupid great seducer kdrama lol.

it's like the writers here were afraid of giving both of the cousins real moments of ugliness. which is such a disservice to the source material and even the other adaptations. I was skeptical of syj having the chops to pull off this role (my fave character) and while there was nothing wrong with her acting on a technical level, the sanitization of her character reflected in her portrayal too. especially if you compare it to lee mi sook's powerful portrayal in untold scandal, syj in comparison has this gentleness that she could not shed for the role. it's such a disappointment to see the most complex, interesting character be watered down like this. the writers should've written her better! you can't have this character be your typical sympathetic FL, there's a completely different character here for that. jcw and nana did well too with what little they had lol. I always have an issue with most adaptations not giving these two characters enough screentime and was hoping it wouldn't happen here but it did xD of all the things they chose to be faithful to other adaptations this is what they chose lmao

overall this was very pretty to look at, with decent performances but that's pretty much it

mostly cute, ML was one of the most nothingburger characters I've seen lately. His friend on the other hand was great, not a good friend, but certainly a girl's girl lmao. he really stood on business always in support of the girls. would've loved to see more of him and FL's bestie together.
