I really liked the script. So many interpersonal relationships portrayed quite realistic. Some are complex and yet the characters' actions and point of view are comprehensible. Some scenes and dialogues are especially touching and/or food for thought. Overall it was beautifully shot...

The hukou system has origins in China that date back to ancient times, but the system in its current form came into being 1958, (with some minor changes since). There have been happening some atrocious things connected to this issue, e.g. during the Great Famine 1958-62
