I think it always dependent on their agent or company they work for. I mean u have alot of actors that get main leads but they get outshine by side characters acting etc.
Like main guy from song of moon. I seen him as main lead in couple drama but seems like he did better when he was secondary character etc. So either script or the character that he played as main leads didnt fit.
Same with like say yuki. She gets alot of main leads but not all those roles or series were good. Last series i enjoyed with her was Never Give Up office sitcom n probably Heaven Sword Dragom Saber for costume while her other drama didnt do so well.
Same with main lead from Journey of Chongzi. Alot of her drama werent well received but i enjoyed Heroes or Dance of the Phoenix with her.
All in all it depending on the company script directing etc. Alot of these actors get type cast but its probably for same reason of they played that role better then another.

First season was like 17 ep then special episodes like 4 to 5 n season 2 is like ep 21 or 22.
