Anything the other characters do pale in comparison to the fact that the male lead is a rapist. That's not anybody else's fault but his. They've had two sexual encounters and both times it's been rape. I can't be madder at any character more than I am at him.

This is so fucking weird because I wasn't even thinking of the west when I wrote my comment. My part of the world has enough nasty old men as leaders as it is. Can't drink medicine for another person's headache.

Ep 26 just made me real mad again that we still live in a world led by nasty old men who refuse to let go of power and will sacrifice any and everyone for their ambition.

Laughed so hard my sister came to join me. Three episodes in and we both love this show. The comedy is 10/10 and the "fools" play off each other so well. Always wanted Cha Eun-woo in a comedy and I am not disappointed. Didn't know Bae Na-ra was in this but boy was I glad to see him.

I was a little worried about Heo Nam-jun carrying a lead role but it was a waste of time. He's doing such a good job with the character. The whole am-i-crazy-yes-i-am-expressions are so on point. The shower scene didn't hurt either. To think I got drawn into watching k-dramas by a shower scene all those years ago. Still a sucker for a beautiful back. Lol.

Moving on...

Came here to make this comment. I haven't seen the preview but it's 26 eps in and barely any character development. He's still super reactive and hurts people he's supposed to care about because he's angry? Neh.

The issue as I see it is the fetishization tbh. Straight people (read, women) who fetishize these stories need to see certain markers (kisses, NC scenes) to accept them as "real" romance.

They're mad they didn't get to see two men make out and that instantly makes it a bromance. Jokes. (Even as I admit queer baiting is in fact a thing in media but not this case in this drama.)

FYI, Yaoi is quite literally BL. There are toxic/dark versions which is what you're referring to.

BLs aren't meant to be realistic though. They're a specific genre that targets female viewers. There are plenty of (Asian) queer films and series and realistically depict the lives of gay characters. I guess the lines have blurred but it helps to know there is a difference.

A few episodes in and my first impression is "intentionally awkward". You don't feel quite at ease with the characters because they don't feel quite at ease with themselves (individually) yet. This will probably change as the drama progresses. I likely won't watch this to the end because I can smell a sad ending a mile away but I can say so far, they did a good job.

Also, the translation is crap. Netflix translations are usually terrible but this is piss poor. And I speak neither Korean nor Japanese.
