The leads have had some character development, but they haven't fundamentally changed. Choi Mundo has always been smart, and everything he's been doing is beginning to bear fruit. Plus, he is a lot more desperate than Seg-ye. And Seg-ye, as tough as he seems on the outside, is quite kind and cannot go to the same extent as Mun-do. So yes, he needs help. And Seo-ri has been giving the performance of a lifetime for decades, but she's back to her real life and doesn't even know. If that doesn't mess with your head, I don't know. This drama has some of the better-designed characters I have seen in a long time. This is not one of those dramas where the writers lost the plot or didn't know how to end it. These writers knew the ending from the beginning and it's all going to come together.
If I had time, I'd calculate how much time the leads spend being romantic and funny vs being angsty in all 12 eps. The heavier emotions leave a stronger impression, so it feels like there's a lot of it but there really isn't.
I'm so lucky to experience the love of God separate from the shame and guilt of religious dogma. It took a lot of deprogramming but to be finally in this place where I can call BS on anyone who tries to use the name of God to make me feel less than? Watching this just made me really sad for the many young people dealing with the guilt that isn't theirs. It's one reason I haven't left religion completely. Need to show the kids that queerness is not a disqualification. If there's a heaven, I'm going to be first in line.
If their father had raised them better, the female twin would have made a good businesswoman. She has better instincts than her brother and actually learnt a few things from their father. Alas.
Every subplot/character is something I've seen in a drama in the last two years. The jealous half-sister? The broken engagement? The delusion ex? The jealous half-sister married to the delusional ex? Unjust death of family members? Emperor trying to establish himself? Lead in a wheelchair? And on it goes. I'm not annoyed or anything, just realising I'm about to hit the point with historical c-dramas where it's going to have to be exceptional to impress me.
Still doesn't take away from my enjoyment of this drama. I like the main leads' dynamics and I'm curious to see how it all plays out.
Oh my goodness I love this. It feels stripped to the story. No bells and whistles. Qinglang is so spoiled and the way Changyang indulges him and takes care of him? I'll happily watch just for this dynamic even if nothing changes. And I'm only half an episode in. Lol.
I have zero confusion because I've decided to shut my brain to any theories and just live in the moment. Lol. It's the rare drama that has me ignoring plot holes and just going along for the ride because of how entertaining it is. Plus I trust the writers to stick the ending and provide a plausible explanation for everything.
Guess we now know who ripped up her costume. It's always amazing what a hairstyle change and the right expression can do for a character. That switch-up was insane. And it was just for a few seconds.
