Three things that are working against Li Changge according to me are- 1, Her depression! Which came into effect just after her family was murdered. She did not want to live at all. If her revenge has happened I believe she would have killed herself then. A lot of things happened to her, betrayals after betrayals. This state of hers continued till She reached the temple. There she finally got the time to reflect, away from the action going on her daily life. 2, She was still a teenager! She got her periods in ep 18!!! She was so young. She was processing so much without a mother. 3, She had lived a luxurious and carefree life till that incident. Her World flipped out of nowhere, she had to leave the palace life and figure out the actual life that was unfolding in front of her cruelly. She was learning things every second. She did not get a break to even breathe! Had it not been her skills, she would have been dead in ep 2.
I'm reading several comments on Reba's acting and Changge's lack of reactions/emotions. I think people here are completely ignoring three things that were working against Li Changge. Li Changge have always been a strong character even before things happened to her. The change was in her outlook towards life which happened gradually. People are all different, there personalities are different. You cannot expect similar emotional outburst from everyone! That's not what humans are. The beauty lies in this difference and acceptance. You cannot ask her to cry at every single scene or ask her for extreme reactions. If she gave you those then that means the writing is lacking. Every character has it's unique essence. You need to understand that. We are not copies of each other.

Not everyone reacts the same way! Reba's character has been too strong all this while and her every crying scene depicts something major! You cannot compare cries, everyone's emotional outburst is different. Reba's Character hold herself back mostly but Lusi's character is opposite of that.
I was reading something and came across this quote- “...but this film never looses sight of the fact that we are all human beings, a thousand years ago and now, and we have roughly the same emotional needs, faults, frailties and strength.” The first thought that cross my mind was,“Ahh.. this is why I love historicals so much.” Nothing much has changed in terms of us being emotional beings. The power to relate is so strong bcoz we all feel the same emotions no matter what the situation and time period is. The Long Ballad plays upon the emotions that are so familiar yet unfamiliar. Maybe that's why we are still so attached.
