Xu seems a lot more personable when talking to his male colleague. He even smiles.š He is starting to see issues with the account he was just working on but his company man colleague is encouraging him to brush it off. Their conversation is interrupted by a call and Xu heads for restaurant XiGuang wasted the day in to meet Rong. She brought mom snacks along so he knew he better show up. He is back to being his aloof and blunt self with her. He wonāt gossip about their classmate and he told her point blank he was only interested in getting his career going in right direction and everything else was a far second for interest. I did smirk that XiGuang got all the cake that Rong wanted. I did roll my eyes at her mental soliloquy before finally getting in cab. Reading comments there was one with my feelings exactly and another on how she had to unlearn the picture in her head. I am trying to get rid of my bias with her infatuation, but there really seems no reason or point for it. In the cab she even admits that, but is that just til next time there is an opportunity? At least she has supportive colleagues and they are willing to accompany her delulu or no. XiGuang is a lot luckier with roommates this time around. They arenāt bashing her for being rich girl or expecting stuff because she is. The budding friendship of these three is like the three musketeers. They will get through it all together.š Lin had a doctor visit and while his hand is healing nicely, it is not likely it will regain the strength needed to be a surgeon. Heās talking with a prior colleague and gets injured rescuing a little old lady. When management comes in and says he will be out for the month, XiGuang thinks her prayers for his absence caused his injury. Out of guilt she offers to be the liaison from work that keeps him updated on everything. When she arrives at his home and asks the maid how he is, she thinks she has mighty powerful wishes.šš¤£Lin is surprised she is the one visiting and I think mentally evaluating her non visits from his serious accident. She is fun with the fruit as sheās hungry and debating what to leave so she doesnāt look like a pig with the snacks.š She now finds herself with a card key to his home and getting documents daily to chat with him about. She isnāt happy about it, but sheās stuck with him now.šāŗļø The entire department is trying to be helpful with urgent documents for her to take to him.š When he asks why she is guilty he is thinking from first accident and sheās thinking she cursed him at temple. When he asks about a forgotten memory she has no clue what heās talking about and he is disheartened with that. He tells her to leave the keycard and she wonāt need to come back anymore. She sees somebody (Mo?) getting hauled off in a black car on her way back to office. She is trying to figure out what Lin is talking about but she gets even bigger news as the girls have a celebratory dinner that Mo has been arrested and no longer with the company. When Lin returns to the office she is no longer the fall guy for extra work and itās throwing her off. At the next meeting an entire new procurement department was introduced and they are going over future plans. Xu did a site evaluation locally on his own and added the info to his report. His boss is now talking transferring him to investment banking. He is finally acknowledging he needed to change earlier when talking to his brother.š XiGuang is heading to her friendās dorm to do laundry and her friend is locked out. Lin an and a colleague are chatting when they notice her climbing across the balcony. The shriek from colleague distracts XiGuang who falls through a tree. Lin rushes to save her before she hits the ground. And episode ends.

XiGuangās complaint to Lin resulted in Logistics admitting their error and rooms being changed around. It was shortsighted to not wait for a 4th newbie when the rooms only made for two. I am not sure if she is staying with them or will be moved to another smaller room. This will hopefully not result in being a roomie with Rong. There is something flakey going on with the contractors and getting loans. I am not sure if they are defrauding ShengYuan or fixing it so they cannot obtain loans or both. The business machinations are unfamiliar turf for me. I am beyond annoyed that she ran out for Xu. ššHe could have waved hi and left, but I guess he is making it clear he is not interested, or he saw the group of investors and upper management inspecting operations and opted to be quiet. He is efficient and does exactly as told but that he did not even check the worksite is a red flag that something is amiss. Lin understands what is going on with XiGuang and punishes her for deserting her post by having her complete the inventory. She learns the hard way why a hard hat should be worn. Between that and tripping on a ladder she might soon actually need medical leave. šShe has completed the inventory and turned it all in and Lin has noted she completed it. Here I wish the drama made it clear why he has issues with her and going against his usual behavior and being an ass to her. Even she recognizes it is not his character when lamenting to her cousin on the phone and every encounter with him causes equal help and hurt. Lin is noticing there is an issue with the bank but he is still new to business and hasnāt put all the pieces together yet. Lin gives the three a ride to Shanghai and after the temple XiGuang gets them in proximity of ShengYuan building hoping to run in to Xu. This is a big damn waste of time. Her friends might have helped her more had she explained the real reason she was there. All of Linās hard work is going to backfire because the one he trusts most is in on it. He recognizes how talented Lin is and that makes this so much worse.š XiGuang finally finds out what day it is and how sheās wasted her friendsā time. This is getting overlong ā¦.they had broken it off nicely with Xu and now thisš And for drama they have not explained Linās attitude. I thought with cousin call it might come up but that opportunity was not taken. This episode disappointing all round.š

XiGuang definitely has no clue who Lin is and that seems to really annoy him. TBH I would not understand his issue had novel readers not included spoilers. After getting caught after hours she and mentor are begged by procurement dept to hurry up a contract because they wanted to rush payment. XiGuangās desk and personal stamp are used on it and while she wanted to read all of the contract, she trusted her mentor and didnāt argue the point. It turns out that money unit for one item was in RMB currency and now a big finance mistake. The ass from procurement is talking a different story when he wants to toss blame for an issue caused by his department. While these two departments argue about how to distribute blame, Lin is observing areas of company and talking with an old mentor. There is then a nice long chat about renewable non fossil energy. Mr Lin is called about the money issue and personally handles it. What doesnāt seem right is that Mo department head getting on his high horse to criticize hires for a completely different department. That should be out of his purview once the upper management intermediates overlapping department conflicts. Lin kept his responses polite and civil while dealing with a pompous ass. The next time his lackey comes begging for a rushed contract I hope they take their time to read every bit of fine print and then clear it with supervisor before signing off on it. XiGuang finds herself transferred to admin where Lin will now directly be her supervisor. He has provided her a shield for Mo but admin has no jobs available. She finds herself in a very disorganized company archive buried under files and old contracts. She has found her organizing super poweršš¤£ This job is actually a good break for her to keep her job and be low profile to avoid any further work issues. Lin does not seem happy with his job placement but his hand and wrist seems to be causing big issues which is why surgeon no longer a job option. XiGuang is cute singing to herself while cleaning. Lin shows up and gets a new reason to scowl at her.šShe should just keep working silently and not try to butter up the boss that has already saved her ass from a serious mistake. Her comment about rushing payment has him reviewing procurement contracts. He is offended by her claiming to have a good memory but with work details she has shown this to be true. He has challenged her to research their top 50 products and historically determine their prices and development. She is not happy with the assignment but she refuses to back away from it. She creates a spreadsheet with all the requested data and then asks for time off. He canāt deny her skills but she doesnāt get time off for her efforts. Her lame health excuse to a prior doctor did not go over well. She should have just been honest and say she needed a break to rejuvenate after all the overtime hours. The trio of roomies hear a new hire is getting one of the new rooms when they should have been on the list. They are especially annoyed because the new hire is in procurement department. They are deciding if they should speak up or stay quiet. It is already clear XiGuang is not gonna stay quiet. She opts to talk to Lin directly rather than file a complaint. So she corners him when heās exiting from a meeting. Goes to next episodeā¦

Before I heard the story of the comb I thought the brother cleverly disguised himself as a woman to get by BiZhi and BeiLu. With flashback to battle where sister died it was revealed that isnāt what happened. They fought valiantly but there were too many and the brother succumbed to rescue sister. With his last breaths he gave her the comb and told her what it could do. He said that women had used it to become great generals so he was granting his sister her ultimate wishāto not be bound by the rules for women and to live her life freely. A plan was set to get the corrupt official who had the Gu family and service decimated. Ironically the friend did not reveal his plan, nor did she, but it played out well even tho impromptu shuffling of hostages was required. The friend posed as a dancer and that old man was as tough as nailsā¦he didnāt flinch. When he was making a point to his son and had the servant slapped for several minutes til he acquiesced to his fatherās wishes. Huai Jin one upped the friend by posing as the bride. She used a flexible sword and stabbed that old demon center mass. BiZhi assisted by grabbing the grandson while they all exited the wedding hall. BeiLu had horses and a Molotov cocktail to discourage being immediately followed. The friend was buried by the brotherās grave but he was consoled that the one he loved still lived and that he had help her avenge her brother. She surprised everybody by not using the comb one last time. She opted to not assume her brotherās identity but to live her life under her terms as a woman. BeiLu spoke up that things would change for women in the future and that they could have a life free of marriage if they chose. She was hopeful knowing that day would come tho she would probably never live to see it. They are then in the time rift market telling the Lord of the market their story. BiZhi composed a suitable ending for her as he reminded her this was about life and not a story. BeiLu has been asking questions and paying attention to the bracelet BiZhi wears. His puppy has wreaked havoc with his friendās comics and collectible figurines. šš¤£ Puppy is banished from the room. The episode ends with Su family car crash. It was a deliberate hit and run. Whoever hit them was not expecting any survivors. Now to wonder why a direct attack on this family and is there a ZiYi connection?

BiZhi started his search in 2021 and worked backwards. He realized that a child he had rescued from a car accident several years ago was BeiLu. He accepts that BeiLu is not ZiYi and tells him he wonāt be putting him in danger anymore. BeiLu wanted to know if he could keep visiting. His Scrooge of a landlord booted him out over a puppy and he ended up at Yashe. BiZhi was not enthused with the puppy but he did recognize BeiLuās tender heart and saw the adoption center that needed help and volunteers. So he gives BeiLu a job at Yashe and a China history book to study. Mr Dong tends to show up when only BeiLou is there and BiZhi shows up just in time to keep them both out of trouble. As BeiLu wanders the shop he comes across a room heās forbidden to go into. We already see where this is going.šI donāt know if this is BiZhiās memories or about an artifact but there is a flashback to siblings where the family was in the escort service. The sister lamented that her brother would get all the adventures and continue family legacy while she would be trapped inside playing a zither. She eventually wore her brother down and their friend played for them as they practiced sword drills. It was clear the friend loved the sister but she wanted to roam free with adventures and never marry. We are not told how long she rode with her brother escorting goods back and forth, we are just clued in that she was killed on a mission and the one that loved her did not forgive the brother for teaching her how to fight. He planned to avenge her singlehandedly and the brother said he also had plans to avenge her. This was the point where their story ended in this episode.

Nuan had a beautiful outfit for Chan to wear to the poetry meeting. She doubted herself but finally got the courage to take her sachet and use her special invitation. She was going to knock on the door when voices stopped her. A couple pleading for their lives before the very man that had saved her. Listening to them she discovered this woman had also been rescued. But when she made the mistake of falling in love the nobleman wanted her to kill him. When she refused, he had her hand chopped off. Chanās gasp had them coming to the door and she saved herself by jumping into the river. When BiZhi and BeiLu came to call she ran away thinks the nobleman. Unfortunately she ran right into him and he returned her sachet and made it clear her life depended on showing up at his home that night. When she refused, she and Nuan were locked in the house and it was set on fire. Fortunately BiZhi and BeiLu showed up in time to rescue them. It was then she learned that her beautiful mermaid was all in her mind. That every action the mermaid had taken was actually her defending herself and fighting hunger. They got to say goodbye and the candle went out. She took a raft down the river and BiZhi used lamb bones to make the village believe she died in the fire. The chat with ZiYi under the stars I am thinking his one night use of the candle, whether imagination or memory I am not sure. It was poignant because it was the last time he saw his friend alive. He followed his friendās advice and did not look for evidence until the last moment and then ZiYi did not wait. He did not believe he could be rescued. BeiLu and Ziyi both want to know who BiZhi is. His resp(nose to both of them is he is their friend. He is hit with guilt about taking BeiLu out in dangerous situations so he is using his Time Machine to find out whether or not BeiLu and ZiYi are one and the same. For reasons unknown the year 2021 comes up as the place to start searching.This drama continues to be interesting and well paced for the most part. I am curious about the other antique seller because we have not been told if he ever came back with items as he was supposed to.

Xu and XiGuang have a candid conversation as they walk back to campus. He is still an ass in his responses but tactless candor is his main form of speech. He wants to know why she didnāt use the references he found for her and she tries to put it in academic terms for him rather than trying to make him understand the emotional reasons. As they walk he realizes the girl beside him isnāt or ever will be his girl. He has fears about Rong and asks her opinion. I gotta grin when she says he looks best with shorter hair and wearing white. As they part ways she calls his name and waves ā letting go of the what might have been to leave as a fond memory at the cusp of adulthood. They both realize their paths may never cross again and they are both ok with it. Her cousin then shows up to take her in a worldwide campus quest. They have a sibling like conversation and it is very sweet. I really like their relationship and hope he stays an integral part of the drama. When she gets back she has another candid conversation, but this time is with her mother. They are discussing her job opportunities and it is clear that Shengyuan has been the only solid offer or her dadās offer of becoming his successor. I think she wishes there was a third option. Her father and the Wuxi board members collectively resent Lin for his candidness that their best move would be to focus on their product and improving it. Her dad is not happy their project was blocked by him and he has made it clear to XiGuang he doesnāt want her working for them. She does not want to work for her dad and tells him she will decide after talking to mom. Her mom doesnāt want XiGuang in the middle of family squabbles and encourages her to take the job she earned on her own. That maybe when she was older and more business savvy they could reassess if her best interest would be to work for the family company or not. So now Xu and XiGuang find themselves at the same company but in very different circles. Lin and Xu get reacquainted at a meeting and Lin corners him about XiGuang. Xu tells him she spent time abroad. So at this point neither know she has reluctantly changed her mind and getting ready to join them. I am glad they did not have her run into Rong immediately. Her work and interview status is still unknown. XiGuang is introduced to her desk and supervisor in finance dept. Her new roommates seem friendly. They are getting introduced to the different aspects of their jobs. The demand to toss the broken scales.šš¤£ They commiserate during meals and are gossiping about the new hottie boss thatās arriving. The one confirms itās Lin, but none of them have ever seen him. Xi Guang totally bursts their bubble when she suggests that since he was a doctor first, isnāt it most likely heās middle aged? š¤£šThey are back in room watching a drama and missing the last episode. XiGuang loses rock/paper/scissors to run to office computer to download the episode. She sees a possible connection problem and is under her desk checking cables. While she is doing this the lights come on and she sees tall dark and handsome in front of her. She goes with Iāve not seen you before do you work here? How did you get in? Seems he has a resting scowl face.šš¤£

These episodes are being lowballed for whatever reason. The first three episodes are a bit draggy building the world of the characters and how they interact. However, this does give a good foundation to start moving on with the story. None of these episodes deserve less than an 8 for acting or pacing, so I recommend watching to make your own determination if worth your time rather than letting algorithms, fans or trolls decide. When XiGuang reports to professor about thesis, she is admonished strongly for submitting such inferior work. When Xu tries to offer help she cuts him off and this ticks the professor off more. He is unprofessional discussing her grade with another student and his reaction to just retake the course was not particularly helpful. XiGuang refuses her friendsā help and here she was too stubborn. But they had just hurt her feelings believing the worst of her so I canāt really blame her for not trusting them with her grades. Xu is helping her by giving her an entire reference section via email to construct a better thesis paper. She appreciates it but not sure of his reasoning. Is he apologizing to her or is he apologizing for Rong? Her second draft pleased her professor and now she just needs to do some touch ups for it to be ready. She sees her friends celebrating being done with class and realizes this is the first time sheās been alone. Her cousin has talked her in to checking out campuses around the world while he decides where he is going to go. He begs her because if she wonāt go with him, his parents wonāt let him travel alone. He is going to take his test and promises his cousin a surprise. This turns out to be Xuās brother. He shares a meal with them and they actually have a good time. The following day Xu showed up to drop his brother off. He is buying lunch this time but he orders for everybody with no input. He likes to repay any debt or kindness ASAP. When she helped with funds for his motherās surgery, he paid her back with interest. The meal was much different than the casual chatting of the previous day. It was quiet and Xu and XiGuang made sure they didnāt spend alone time together at the table. After the second portion of test they parted ways because Rong was hosting a party for him. Her cousin was funnyā¦you didnāt use any of the notes he sent you did you? šš¤£ Here I was surprised she didnāt but I understand her reasoning. Xu came to her dissertation to see if she used his reference materials. Rong hammered it out with her and while I donāt think they will ever be best buddies, I do think they could be agreeable work colleagues. They are reminiscing their first meeting as they prepare for their first goodbye. This is when there is no assurance of contact later even when wished for. There is a rush for the bus and Xi Guang finds out she and Xu missed the last bus and have no cash with them.

An odd antique dealer shows up at Yashe. He is supposed to bring items to shop but that hasnāt been shown yet. Iām betting he knows something about the travel chair and trying to find a way in at the shop. It is fun at the market with the tongue twister name of bubble tea. It was funnier when her guard wanted to keep testing for toxins.š¤£ BiZhi gets location for mermaid candle and is taken aback at the condition of location. The village is ravaged and all are begging in the streets. The officials are corrupt and do not care if the food is distributed fairly or in good condition. A little girl is in the background and comes back to her home and lights a blue camera with mermaid on it. She is surprised when she gets up that the candle has not burned down any and happy to use again. Her food is stolen and she is pushed aside. Her hands are bleeding and her basket is broken. As she weeps by the candle she sees a visitor on her bed. She declares herself a mermaid and replaces the food she lost. The mermaid promises to stay with her as long as the candle is lit. The mermaid takes care of her for years and she is old enough to work and the town has recovered. BiZhiās coordinates land him at a brothel and he tells them BeiLu is paying. š¤£š It is funnier that he remains the most sober with the drinking game. š They learn that the Chan they are looking for delivers the laundry and had already left for the day. It was later at night and an official that had harassed her at work had more plans for her in the alley. She bit his hand and ran away. Fortunately a handsome noble came to the rescue and the disgusting official stayed groveling at his feet while Chan ran home. She was greeted by the mermaid who was worried about her and had come looking. This night, she was taught how to defend herself with a dagger. This is probably the Kun blade BiZhi is looking for. After seeing her assault, I was glad she was getting a lesson in self defense. After the lesson, the mermaid gave her the blade. The next day the official was found dead. Chan saw her bite marks on his hand. She runs into the nobleman at work and offers a sachet as a thank you. He buys one and returns it to her as an invite to his poetry group. He is definitely interested and so is she. āŗļø The mermaid has the hairpin a seller tried to get Chan to buy. It has blood on the tip and itās quite likely she killed the official. Canāt feel sorry for the guy but hope the evidence doesnāt point to Chan.

BiZhi and BeiLu attend Lu Fengās exhibit. Bei Zhi buys three pieces to get his attention. He asks for the Wu blade and Lu Feng is interested because he wants his work to be displayed in the Rainbow Manor. BeiLu is just starting to figure out that the great gpa in picture is BiZhi. š¤£ BeiLu invited himself to the exhibit but BiZhi had to dress him. š¤£ I am wondering if he kept the tags on to return later since he asked about return policy in the way out. Lu Feng paid the paparazzi to take pics of him at dinner and get a buzz going before exhibition. I am thinking when he refused to make a relationship with Nina public she is the one that released this info to the public. It went viral right after she stomped out and it was a bit too coincidental in timing. Lu Feng looked through all his tools and came across the knife. He didnāt even value it but threw it in as a freebie with BiZhiās other purchases. BeiLu gave him a piece of his mind on the way out the door. He was disgusted with the lack of value Lu Feng gave Lanās gift to him. He was angry that the sincere artist he met at the market was this publicity seeking womanizer before him. What was news to the artist is that his memory of the market started to return once he reacquainted himself with the gifted blade. It is one of a pair and BiZhi needs to find its mate before he can neutralize the energy on it. Lu Feng is rushed to the hospital with a perforated stomach. Once he recalls his market adventure, he gives away his wealth and goes back to creating. Maybe he will finally make something truly wonderful. At the market he was a very good handyman fixing things. That seems to be his real talent. BiZhi is tempted to investigate BeiLuās past and has the means to do it. For now he set it aside because I donāt think he wants confirmation that BeiLu is not ZiYi.

BiZhi is trying to determine if BeiLu is ZiYi. He visits BeiLuās vet clinic and apartment. BeiLu is having financial difficulties so cousin BiZhi pays rent. He takes BeiLu to a time rift market to ask the Lord of the market if BeiLu had ever been there. She could neither confirm or deny the possibility of BeiLu being ZiYi, but she could confirm heād never been at her market. BeiLu has an adventure by getting kidnapped by two lovers from different eras that didnāt want to be separated. There was no way for either to sacrifice their place in time so they just promised to live each moment as their last. Turns out Lu Feng has no memory of the place and has to send out miss you messages in a multi chat. His influencer date wasnāt fooled and left. He is wanting her presence at his exhibition to have increased visibility. What was interesting is that the Lord of the market was familiar with his name but not his appearance. She serves as the item location finder for BiZhi and they bargain for coordinate locations. Unlike others that accidentally find the market and have to remain til their time era opens, BiZhi and BeiLu can come and go plus retain memories of their time spent there. This is a unique feature of travel via Yashe shop. BeiLu has not passed his vet test or become licensed in three years. There seems to be a very real lack of motivation with no given reason. BiZhi takes BeiLu to a five star location where I am surprised a dress code wasnāt enforced. BeiLu eats like a starving college student at a pub. I donāt think BiZhi will go so highbrow next time. Maybe this was another ZiYi test because of all the manners forced upon him by his family. It was interesting how quickly BeiLu recognized how boring BiZhiās life is in the future. That was very quick insight. This episode focused on new characters and locations with BiZhi taking notes indicating it is less and less likely that BeiLu is his friend. He hasnāt given up hope but he is probably now deciding if he wants a look alike to keep him company if he can definitely prove one way or the other if ZiYi or no. Does he consider them friends if not ZiYi?

This drama does emotional scenes beautifully ā¤ļø we get some background when Cpt Li met Ms He via the mirror. They rescued each other and shared sweet moments. While an anomaly that shouldnāt exist, their love story was very sweet and heartfelt. š„°ā¤ļø There is also some history when BiZhi met ZiYi and how their friendship started. They were successful in retrieving the mirror this time and it was added to the collection. I am not sure how much longer Ms He lived but they were shown holding hands with Gen Li as he passed. Wherever they are, theyāre togetherš BeiLu was given credit for the idea and has been granted more visits to the shop. The cast and production team are doing an excellent job drawing you in to the individual stories of the collection as well as gaining clues about BeiZhi and BeiLu. Loved all the beautiful sentiment in this episode.

BiZhi decides to let BeiLu accompany him against his better judgment. Since the location is the same time frame ZiYi lived there, BiZhi hopes it will stir memories. BeiLu seems to have been written as comic relief. I have mixed feelings with this approach. He constantly disrupts things without thought of the consequences. The fish mirror is discovered to be the heart guard of a young general. He found it on the battlefield and conversed with a distraught woman on the other side. They did a sort of ancient FaceTime and chatted with each other that way. The last battle scene with the young general was very well done. Because BeiLu tried to save him, the general died going over a cliff and the mirror could not be retrieved. He did suggest finding the girl and I am not annoyed he tried to save her. However this still means they cannot get the mirror yet. I think BeiLuās character is smart, but he does act impulsively and does not worry about consequences til they literally tie him up to get him out of the way. I can see why some commenters are unhappy with his character. The ZiYi at the beginning seemed like a serious scholar so I am hoping the writers have included a growing phase for a more mature side of BeiLu to present during the drama. As childish as his impulsive nature looks, it was also this characteristic that had him help BiZhi even when he thought BiZhi was a complete nutcase. I am still enjoying the story and waiting to see what happens next.

This drama is interesting. BiZhi is coming with testimony to prove his friendās innocence and does not make it back in time. ZiYi believes all is lost and his place is set ablaze to finish things. BiZhi has the ability to visit different times like Dr Who, but because he has tried to save his friend repeatedly with nothing changing, the artifacts his friend collected now has a bad cosmic energy that wreaks havoc wherever they end up. So now his mission is to collect these relics and remove the negative energyā¦like Warehouse 13. He retrieves a sword after an impromptu sword fight with the owner who inadvertently activated it. The fight was well done and he managed to knock out the owner and retrieve the sword. The owner was left to wonder about the table etc cut in half.š¤£ BiZhi is lamenting his friend and tries to find golden liquor in a local bar that advertised it. After testing all their golden drinks he is a drunken mess outside and a stranger offers assistance. This stranger looks and acts like his friend in modern times and he is convinced that it is him. The veterinarian thinks the poor guy is addled but tries to help him anyways. BiZhi spent the night skipping through time trying to get BeiLu to remember with no luck. He finally gives up and is off to recover a mirror in ancient times to discover that the doc and his turtle have traveled back with him. They are both quite surprised. Very interesting start to the drama and quite fun to watch.

This drama delivered a well paced and well told story. The only exception for me was the crazy gal working at the time bureau that changed from wannabe assassin girl Friday to sorry didnāt mean it so please believe Iām sorry wanna help you gal.I was surprised that the 40ās Xun character was so selfish and manipulative. I spent a good part of the drama not really liking him. I was in agreement with him about the gpa bias against him because that did cause preventable conflict to a grating level at times. The cast did a wonderful job with their characters and they all left distinct impressions whether you liked them or not. The twist at the end as Dr. Yu let Xun see the burden placed on Zhao Zuo You causing him to not participate in his own life because he felt it all predetermined and he couldnāt defeat time. Xun finally won me over when nursing Gpa and accepting the day to day dealing with life as it is, not how he could manipulate and control things. We got to see how their biases blinded them to things and their change of perspective when the blinders removed. The sweet love story of the teens, the harsh conflict of 40ās wanting divorced, and the lament of the gpa wanting to save the wife he lost. The exploration of friendships and how true are they when it hits the fan and times are hard. How much do we really value friends and family when they force us to live up to their ideals and expectations? Do we bow and submit or stand up for ourselves when challenged by parents and teachers to do better but as they want to direct rather than trust you to choose for yourself? The act of bravery at the end by stopping the video and TuTu keeping her name makes us wonder if this was the correction program correcting itself? It lets us wonder how much say we have in the direction of our lifeās choicesādo we decide or is it preplanned? What degree does free will govern us? This was a thoughtful drama that gave slices of life views at different key points in time of personal development āyouthful first dreams, midlife disappointment in career and relationship choices, aged success and regret. All of us deal with this to different degrees and this let us ponder what if my older self could direct my younger self in a better direction? And the real answer turned out to be that the younger version tended to be the reminder of whatās really important and was as good of a teacher as pupil. That we experience life best by trying to be our better selves and taking it a day at a time. The cast and production team did an excellent job of letting us see and appreciate the different stages of Zhao Zuo Youās life and what influences helped him progress or held him back. To see what degree he had a say in his choices and the people he kept in his life. And dealing with the capriciousness of life that provides both hope and despair. It thoughtfully brings things full circle and left us with hope for a bright future in spite of the odds.
