This episode gives us some of Komatsu’s history. She and Dr Shinomiya have words about midwives vs monitors. He has cause for his biased view on things, but sometimes I wish he would be less cold and harsh in his mini diatribes. This episode focuses on moms to be that want more natural and family oriented setting during childbirth. This is more possible with midwives. This is a beautiful idea unless there is a complication for mother or child and then it can go very badly. Komatsu’s mom ran a maternity clinic and this is where she decided to become a midwife like her mother. She is a team player at the hospital, but she is seen often behind the scenes working with the new parents or mom during contractions to help put them at ease and give practical care knowledge. This is a respected profession, but there is a huge caveat with the job, no mistakes can be made. This is far more judgmental than docs with the machines. But, they understand the truth of this. For this reason Komatsu opted to work at a hospital. She was confidant in her abilities, but acknowledged things could go wrong. She thought this indicative of her being too cowardly to work in a maternity clinic. When a patient determined to be like her mom, was determined to continue and leave hospital with the new knowledge she had, her midwife shared her children born by c-sections both of them. She realized as Dr Konotori’s gentle words washed over her, that all births were correct births; whether natural or willingly cut open to bring them to world. What mattered was safely and best thriving method. All cases are different, even with same mother. Birth circumstances are unique every time and need to be treated that way. Komatsu laughed when she realized her colleague was successful because cowardly. She calle hospital for help at slightest inclination for problem. This showed Komatsu that she didn’t have to be like her mom to be a good midwife. That her fear kept her alert to whatever or whoever was needed to insure a safe birth. This even had Dr Shinomiya asking her opinion on wait or head to surgery. Little by little he is getting out of his grumpy shell. But his young patient showing signs of pneumonia so I hope he doesn’t retreat and get worse. Love Sakura getting teased at the end and Komatsu stealing his noodled.😂😁

The treachery of their illusion has been discovered. The fight is on for the old demon lord to get his blood sacrifices lined up to take over young lord’s body. Feng Qi is such a distasteful fool. He has every reason to want revenge but I hope his fish destroys him. Shi, 🤬that hateful old man needs to die. I am not sure that has been accomplished yet either. It is criminal how they used Tingyan to strike him. I don’t know if fire and ice can coexist as a pair, but these two will find a way. This episode is quite bleak with the preceptor’s plot almost to fruition. Black snake may not recover from this either, but I hope Hongluo will find a way to rescue them all. And I really hope we get to see all the bad ones meet their end. I am also very glad I do not have to wait til next episode. What I do not want is for Shi to get another life. I really want him removed from all three realms and timelines. 😝

This episode shows the struggle of 40+ age group new mothers. These are the women that did not put careers on hold and started wanting a family around age 38. Most of them needed years of fertility treatment to then be in high risk pregnancies. When ER doc shot off his mouth how she should have had baby ten years earlier, he got an earful from the women. For many it is either/ or choice between motherhood and career. The young widower is feeling this discrimination too as his pet project is getting turned over to young recruits because he needs to pick up his daughter rather than entertain clients. For the most part, employers don’t care about the family situation, they just want to see results at the workplace. The hospital where they work doesn’t talk about daycare on premises, so these women feel the crunch of having shift work with trying to consider having a family. The mother with lucky charm did have her baby, but complications resulted in a hysterectomy. She asked if her age was the reason and the doctors had to admit it was a factor. There was another patient that lost her child but she was saved. It hits the team hard that the baby was lost. They like success with mother and child. But sometimes, that isn’t possible and choices have to be made. I like how Komatsu reminded the administrator of his age and what got the job done when he flippantly talked of a patient’s uterus performing it’s job before loss.😝 Seems some of these men need the reminder. ‘Baby’ is playing but again has to dash out for an emergency. He is calling his team to get ready as he rushes to hospital.

This episode had a checkup of baby Kokoro. Her mom is still working to gain independence and baby is doing well. This was a nice update to have mentioned. Sakura is asked to give a lecture at school about sex education. This episode involves a pair of 14 yr olds who did not realize pregnancy until she collapsed on basketball court to find out I months pregnant. The father;s family is wealthy and the father a politician. He especially wants this matter swept away and quiet. The girl is sweet but is in single parent family with mother and gma with long term illnesses. They are not prepare to take in a baby with their circumstances. We get to have a hard long look at Dr Konotori’s past in the orphanage. The poignant question from the little boy wanting to know if Sakura visited to take him home? The lovely rendition of twinkle twinkle little star to show his second mother what he had learned with piano. His sharing of his three mothers to young mom to be and how their immeasurable love mad him never unhappy even with harsh circumstances. Two middle schoolers trying to figure out how to make a place for their baby. This even has Dr Shinomaiya wondering how to find a place for his unconscious patient. I liked how his second mom ran outside to give him the send off she could not do the first time he left orphanage. This was another lovely moment between a mother and child. We watched a young girl do her best to keep baby string and healthy, to give birth and then give baby to adoptive parents. Their sweet thank you from behind the door as young mother is distraught and the young boy father also outside her door. They have 6 months to decide if baby will stay with couple or not. I have no idea how this will turn out. Hopefully the children willl move on and let baby stay with couple. There is no easy choice, and no wrong decision. It is people doing the best they can dealing with life in their own terms. One of the best parts of episode for me is when administrator told the dad to shut up and let the parents decide. This should have been done long ago, but he is a cowardly bully and only had his self interest at heart while claiming for his son.😝 Both young people got to see the daughter they created. She now understands it is not CG but lifelong responsibility. They must look past themselves to see what is best for her.

Dr Shimoya delivered a baby in the hallway and even tho cord around neck the baby and mother safe and sound. As a female ob/gyn she was getting more requests. One patient complained of pain and bloating but she didn’t think a serious matter. The next day, she was leaking amniotic fluid and had to be in complete bedrest. There is a new ‘iron lady’ added to Neo natal team. While Dr Shimoya said it was hard to determine miscarriage symptoms, the Iron Lady played hardball and really countered her hard about going by what she thought and missing symptoms. The young couple was given two horrible choices, to terminate the pregnancy or to try to get to 25 weeks and understand any number of physical defects could occur. They were given barely 50% chance the child would survive. They had been married ten years and did not want to give up on the baby, so it was decided that even at w3 weeks they would try and an emergency C-section was performed. Both mother and son survived. The baby was named Daichi and the father was so determined to be there for him. To see those little fingers grasp his father’s finger. A few days later, the same, little fingers wrapped tightly around mother;s fingers. Dr Shimoya questioned herself so hard. She was not sure she recommended the right course of action. She asked Sakura if he too ever questioned himself as a doctor. He surprised her by immediately saying of course because he is also human. The baby is a fighter. They are waiting to see if he will survive the first week. All the doctors are hovering around this very small being. A small body with big spirit. Dr Shinomaiya was by his unconscious patient wishing he had been a better doctor. This drama shows the other side of the bad questions. The doctors must provide the most accurate information and then leave it to the parents to decide. After their fateful decision, the doctors must respect it, and do the best they can for all parties concerned. This is a hard reality with this vocation choice. It holds the best and worst of times juxtaposed in the same room. It is beauty and tragedy, joy and sorrow, with all of life’s complexities circling through. It brings out the best and worst of our spirit and character. But, God willing we move forward and learn from it. To do better and to appreciate the time we have. This drama deals with a lot of harsh realities. But it does an excellent job of giving us hope for today and the future as well. Komatsu has demanded a song on piano from Sakura to cheer them both up. It was a lovely way to end their shift. The next episode seems to deal with teen pregnancy.

This episode features the harmful effects of smoking on babies and the consequences of not being vaccinated for rubella. The story starts with a young blind girl named Haruka who will be featured on a PSA about congenital rubella syndrome. She was born blind but it was a miracle she was born. Her mother caught rubella 8 weeks into pregnancy from her husband who did not know the ramifications and was not vaccinated. The other is the smoking mom who slows things down but refuses to completely quit. She collapses on the sidewalk and Dr Shinomiya finds her. She has suffered placenta abruption as a direct result of her smoking. She pleads with him to save the baby. This causes a flashback to 5 years ago when a kinder and gentler version of himself was not as firm with his patient. She too suffered placenta abruption and bled out on the table. The baby girl was born with severe cerebral palsy and may never wake up. Her family has given up and no longer visit. Dr Shinomiya has come to her room every night to read to her. He feels tremendous guilt that he tried to grant her wish of having more children than saving her life. He is harder and less friendly now. He votes to save the mother first choice and doesn’t care if it costs them more children. This case has reopened these issues. Konotori votes to save uterus and he wants it gone. They have a severe disagreement over it, but he eventually complies. He considers them all lucky but not happy with this choice. Especially if she and husband continue to smoke and decide on more children. The baby from smoker is luckily just fine. There is extra monitoring to be certain, but it seems he will go home right on schedule. The mother apologizes to him and he gruffly tells her to take care of herself. After her apology, she thanks him for saving her family. This reaches his hurt heart. He goes to visit his unconscious patient and tells her he had a good day and smiles.🥰 There was finally a bit of heart healing for him. The blind girl knows “Baby’ songs and Sakura is nervous. His musician side has to stay secret. The parents argue about her being in the documentary. The dad wants her to go out in the world and the mom wants to shield her from it. There is a lot of conflict and the mom turns down the show. Haruka is taken to a “Baby” concert for her bday. Sakura asks her to go on stage and they play beautifully.❤️ The doc is surprised she knows who he is. She recognized his hands and voice. They sweetly agree to keep it their secret and continue the concert. As the parents watch, the dad is elated and the mother recognizes her daughter is capable. She doesn’t have to hover over and shield her so much. She is allowed to play in the documentary and there is a good reception to the information. Everyone is proud of her and respect the courage it took the family to talk about it publicly. I appreciate the care the cast and production have taken to respect the doctors, first responders and patients in the telling of their stories. The music is also excellent. It definitely causes strong feelings as you watch the happiest or saddest moments in the lives of these families, but it also gives you a great appreciation for life as it is, messy, sad and joyful.

The lengths these 8 sect leaders are willing to go. 😝She is the mother of that girl who killed lower cultivated ones. Shi is almost mad in his efforts to get Tingyan as a weapon vs the price it is costing. He will truly be crazy before this is over. Nobody was more surprised than Sima Jiao at those memories. He knew they were false but to be so embedded in the soul manor was some serious memory tampering. He had no way to know she would willingly take her own life to be deceitful. Tingyan was surprised to see a vengeful ‘brother’ in her soul manor. She knows that in spite of what she’s been told, ‘she’ was the one that killed him. Ruling is cute as a kid.😂 Like all children she tends to see things more clearly than the grownups and asks the right questions. It is becoming more clear who the true deceiver is, but she still doesn’t understand why. It is also funny how fast Shi got his ass out of that wheelchair when he needed to. There is absolutely nothing he has not lied about. Unfortunately this will fall well with the demon magistrates wanting a coup against the lazy devil lord. But had that one shown any interest at all, he is probably the only one that could have truly gotten along with her. They have the same outlook in living. So Nianju wasn’t cultivated enough to see through their disguise and that is how Shi escaped the first time. He now knows it is Ruling that had her soul transferred and that he already assisted. He is sad that she might not remember him as Jiao let him know what might happen from personal experience, but he is encouraged that while she is alive there is hope. Tingyan is still not convinced Jiao has told her the truth, but she is no longer completely convinced that her ‘father and aunt’ haven’t lied. So she now must determine who is the biggest liar to her. The only thing she can really count on right now is her friendship with Ruling. Tbh, I wasn’t enthused with it in the celestial realm. But, without the burden of her mother’s death wish for Sima Jiao, she is more who she truly wants to be. I am not sure if she will remember Shi causing her sister’s death, but I hope she does. We need all the power we can get against that conniving old man😝 He unfortunately is truly a source to be reckoned with, but there is no depth he will not sink to to gain power. Here he might match the demon precept. Tingyan’s mind is reeling from the conflict of memories bombarding. Shi has been quite thorough in dismantling her feelings and memories from her life in celestial palace. He has forged her into the weapon everybody wants her to be. I truly despise his character. This actor has done a fine job making him despicable. Feng Qi actor gets to be annoying in two dramas for me.😂😝 He seems to do well in these roles. 😝The beauty of the lanterns and stars, how he mocked them. Shows he knows nothing about her. He is as bad as the others thinking training is her preference. However, with what is coming up, I am glad she is stronger rather than weaker. It remains to be seen how she will use her abilities. The cast and production are doing an excellent job portraying the different environments and I really like the music. I have not liked every episode, but the story is well told so far. They make you feel the conflicts quite vividly. You really hate the villains and really root for the good guys.

Shi has really done a number on Tingyan. Here Sima Jiao gets to observe the nightmare Shi used to get her to kill. He sees a mirror of what he did and the horror it brings to her. He is ready to take care of Shi even more. The underling to demon Precept has duped Feng Qi into going to her. He knows the poor guy is obsessed with his savior and now he knows it’s his childhood friend. He actually tries to go toe to toe with Jiao and fortunately is rescued by her. She is waiting around for her friend to be revived and then still plans to leave with her and Shi to live a quiet life. I am sure dear old dad will be very enthused with her plan.😝 Jiao is trying to get her to enjoy eating again and wasn’t successful until he found the trotters her friend makes. She told her friend point blank that in her past life she was cultivation partner with Jiao and both men jealously want her to say who her boyfriend is. She looks at both of them and says neither.😝 I am sad for Jiao because he has worked so hard to get her to remember but letting her take her time to recall. The only thing she has truly kept of her old life is a desire to live in peace. All the things that gave her joy…lazing and eating in particular, have been stripped from her. She is starting to find her true self a bit when she actually gets to sleep the night through without torment. Shi is still making evil plans and that is countered by the demon higher ups that want to process her into a weapon. She already has the greatest weapon. The anklet Jiao gave her to protect her from spirit flame. Hopefully she will not share what it can do with anyone else. Nianju did not recognize Shi when he went to Tingyan’s home or they were disguised to him. I am not sure why he did not recognize them. Her learned that the woman killed by his two men was Ruling, and he knows she kept the whistle. Everybody wants Tingyan to fight Sima Jiao, but she recognizes that the stories don’t match the person. The young woman of Fengshan blood said they were the couple that rescued her. This gives something for ‘Shi Yan’ to ponder, but she is not convinced she wants to rekindle any closeness with Sima Jiao. What she does not realize is when she was relieved her friend was obsessed with his savior, that ‘she’ is the savior. It will be interesting when she has to deal with the battle of the boyfriends.

The young mom brought in had done all possible to protect the baby. This resulted in a horrible head injury for her. The emergency doc was all for saving the mom and Dr Sakura was for the baby. This episode centered around the horrible choice of the husband as to which patient to focus on….mother or child. Prior to this there is another mother on bedrest who wants more children. Dr Shinomiya was all about removing the uterus. While it was the easiest choice for safety of the mother, he was pretty callous in his remarks. There was another mom to be reducing her smoking habit. He told her she didn’t deserve to be a mom. Here I appreciated Dr Komatsu showing her via pamphlet how her smoking hampered baby’s growth and her habit could kill them both. She calmly explained it and told her not to be scared but to understand the risks she was causing herself and unborn child. She then requested a new doctor. Dr Grumpy does not feel inclined to apologize..his argument…rude and capable or nice and not.😝😝 The woman with head injury had left a recording for husband…that she finally learned there was something more precious than your own life. The love for your child. This gave the husband the strength to fight for his child tho he was absolutely devastated at the loss of his wife. I liked the dignity given to the patient from the doctors in sewing up the mother in respect and presenting her child to her. Even Dr Grumpy paid his respects. Dr Konotori took it hard as well since this was similar to his birth circumstances. He goes to the club and plays melancholy music to vent his sorrow. Dr Grumpy is again reading to the unconscious boy that has something to do with a surgery going very wrong. The ER doc is out with the group having a meal and is told the widower appreciated his efforts to keep his wife’s heart beating so their daughter could be born. She is named Mei and his goal is to make her feel happy to be alive every day. Hope from tragedy.

Konotori Sakura is a jazz pianist and ob/gyn doctor. He is the one that won’t say no to a patient being admitted. He figures a way to make it work. He’s a gifted musician but has to keep this part of his life a secret so that it is not seen as a conflict with his medical career. Shimoya Kae is a third year resident. She is still trying to find her place as a new Dr and lacks confidence due to lack of experience. Komatsu Rumiko is new to the staff but an old colleague of Sakura and Shinomiya. She is quickly becoming the heart of the group and a strong assist in keeping things calm and more pleasant for both doctors and patients. Shinomiya Haruki is the one that handles emergency surgeries. He is a definite grump and his old friend is surprised at the change in him as he was once known for his smile. This is the team that works at the ob/gyn at the Perinatal Medical Center. Sakura is giving a performance and everyone wonders if he will get to actually complete a concert. He receives an emergency call from an ambulance that says they have an expectant mother with no pre natal care and two hospitals have already turned her down. He rushes to the hospital and has NICU on standby and figures his friend currently handling C-section surgery will have time to complete before she arrives. The mother agrees to the surgery and gives birth to a beautiful daughter she names Kokoro. There is another couple who have been waiting for hours to see their baby. Over 20 hours of labor before their son chooses to be born. His birth was a bit complicated because his shoulder was stuck so it took some finagling. Dr Shinomiya did not hesitate to let the third year know she had no technique and offered no real assistance except calling him there. He is definitely the ray of sunshine amongst the team.😝 The emergency mom wasn’t ready for a family. She came from a divorced single mom who was verbally abusive to them and held them responsible for her poor lot in life. This made her feel incapable of being a mother. After trying to run away, she is encouraged to see her child and to consider assistance programs to help her. She leaves with a job prospect and hopefully will be able to get her daughter out of the welfare program when she is ready. The Dr Imahashi Takayuki in NICU is apologizing to his daughter for missing her bday. And Dr Grumpy is reading a book to a intubated child. We do not know the story yet, but this child is probably the source of his grumpiness and perfectionism. This first episode was a nice introduction to the staff that we will be seeing handling ob/gyn patients. We are given slice of life circumstances with both the patients and the doctors. This is an emotional and thoughtful journey into the life/death circumstances that are juxtaposed in the birth of a child. This is where the greatest joy or biggest heartbreak can occur. Dr Sakura is one that grew up in an orphanage when his mother died in childbirth. He has made it his life’s mission to have mother and child be healthy and happy in his care. He shared with baby Kokoro the same message he received from orphanage caretaker. You may come into this world dealing with harder things than most that will make you sadder at the start…but you will grow through them to experience greater joy in the end. The episode ends with a cheerful mom to be on phone with her husband when an accident occurs that sends a car flying right at her…Dr Sakura volunteers to head to the scene.

It is funny that Tingyan still considers Jiao a ‘pretty boy’ 😂 She and Ruling still the same…..she wants the boy and Ruling the snake. Shi is so close to his revenge he can taste it. He gets the mother of killed girl from celestial city to help him with cleansing marrow to wake up fish’s cold skills. Snake has had a night partying where he sees Ruling but too drunk for a conversation. While he is passed out, two thugs from his unit assaul and kill her. This awakens the killing mode in Tingyan. Once she takes care of her dead friend, she takes care of her killers. Now her dreams of leaving with her friend to live in peace with her and Shi is destroyed. Shi is not about peaceful living in his old age. He is all about son’s revenge. Too bad he didn’t care so much about his son when he was alive.😝 He is a good villain because I loathe him on sight. Kudos to the actor. Jiao is surprised at the changes in Tingyan. He has figured out the bulk of it because he knows Shi so well. He is ready to end their fight…permanently.😝 Tingyan is confused because he is not the archenemy she was led to believe. She cannot figure out why his embrace gives her rest. She wakes up to strike him and is surprised he only destroys the dagger. She explains why she killed and sounded exactly like him in other realm of the necessity of it. She did not, however, feel inclined to continue with her hate to destroy the clan after killing the murderers if her friend. He is surprised that Shi managed to teach her to kill when he hadn’t. It was the love for her friend that overrode her distaste of killing, not any training from Shi. His only worth was making her stringer. But that wasn’t for her but his own banefits. The snake will be surprised when he finds out who Jiao is doing soul transference spell for. Jiao is greatly weakened but he will do what pleases her. He has made her a bracelet but I am not sure if she is wearing it yet. The snake is now looking for Shi. The angry mob now knows that their innocent victims killed first. They are not happy but leave. There will now be another problem. Tjngyan’s friend, will now become nemesis thanks to second in charge demon. They are aware of Tingyan now and want to process her for weapon against Sima Jiao. I have noticed that in many of the dramas I watch, the demon realm is made kinder and less evil than celestial realms. I find this interesting and wish more time would have been invested with this realm than celestial one. Now to see what happens to Ruling after Jiao’s efforts. I despised her in the celestial realm. She betrayed her friends for her cause. But in this realm, she gave everything to support her friend. This is more her true nature when not burdened with her mother’s wishes and her upbringing in bad circumstances. Here, I hope she and Nianju gets a happy ending as well as main leads. I am actually surprised at this.🧐

Sima Jiao cannot break the barrier but can walk through. Here he has an unexpected encounter…..his father. Here he finds out everything that occurred that fateful night. One hundred of his clan fed the flame flower to unite with him and his father feigned madness and burned all the evidence. He thought this would end the battle not have Fengshan round two on another mountain. Jiao was far from pleased at his father’s calm storytelling of how the Fengshan bloodline’s legacy was destined through him, and that even alone left their mark in history. In this, he is as bad of a father as Shi. Both plotting their place in history rather than in the peace and happiness of their family. Ruling has Tingyan at the scene and they have her chained. Everybody is expecting a great showdown with the grandmaster where the pair would be destroyed and they could have their leadership places ruling 8 sects and having the flame flower be theirs. They are a disgusting lot to the end. I am glad Jiao destroyed every last bit of his family’s blood from that place. It needed to go. He did not know Tingyan was there and Ruling tried to help her. I don’t give her credit for that because she is why Tingyan is there. Jiao is in the process of fusing both flame flowers and seeking for Tingyan. He cannot find her soul shards anywhere. He succumbs to exhaustion and has an 18 yr nap. Nianju and his one lone spy have been trying to keep him safe but they are running low on energy and people. Jiao wakes up just in time to let the enemy go out in a blaze of glory and fix the demon barrier. So once demons had access, they did not worry about their people stranded but fought for new territory. Choas and lawlessness is rampant and nobody lives well. The celestial palace is all but destroyed. This was not Sima Jiao’s intent, but he is not surprised this is how things end up. He believes the search for Tingyan continues in the demon realm and headed that way. We get a glimpse of demon well and learn that Tingyan the frozen fish is as singular as Sima Jiao. Fire and ice fated….they are both the last of their kinds. There is a demon spirit needing a host and he tells the disciple of an artifact that needs Tingyan processed and this item can kill the grandmaster and the demon will become new host. There is a scene at an eatery with Shi sitting at a table and Tingyan is cleaning and calling him father.😝😬😱 Things have certainly changed.

Everybody shows up at Wufeng except who they expect to see. Sima Jiao knows it is a trap and heads to the other location where Shi’s son is leading a small group to guard the new flame. As the battle continues, the son firmly believes Sima Jiao killed Anxue, his love, and here even Nianju confirms his own father did it. He refuses to believe the truth and insults Tingyan and Sima Jiao. Tingyan helps to knock them down but Jiao takes this a step further and forces her to kill. She is completely traumatized by the event. This shakes even him because he did not see wrong in his actions. Her body is a demon, doing what demons innately do , kill when the need arises. But she is other and he is just now really getting that. I agree she needs a better sense of self preservation, but removing her choice from it and using her hand rather than an artifact made it much more personal. He thought he was having her stick up for herself, and she saw herself killing an innocent person she had no grudge against. She collapses and he carries her back. She feels unclean and is haunted by blood in her hands and visions of Shi’s son. She has told him that as grandmaster she j derstood his thinking, but that as the one most dear to her, she is hurt he used her against her will. This gives him pause to reflect. Shi is enraged his son is gone. His mind games made his son a puppet of a higher order but still just a puppet. I am not convinced his grief is for his son personally, or the loss of an u questioning cog in his machine of running the palace. His son killed many in that village, and I have no sympathy or regret for his death. But his death has made a serious impression on Tingyan and she wants to forget it. Shi is done with the facade of compliance. He is forcing Ruling’s hand by leaving her sister close to death. She has three days to find Tingyan. Her sister ended up dying with honor. I really didn’t expect that. She simply wants her people home and doesn’t put herself on any special pedestal or seeks extra consideration. Ruling cries over her but she barely spoke to her when she had the chance. She did not seek any further information about the barrier and aligned herself with a leader that thinks genocide is the way to rule. Why she thinks he will honor his word on any level is surprising to me. She personally knows the only two beings Sima Jiao keeps near him and this doesn’t make her question her judgment of him. She has just moved herself to the son’s puppet place in his blood machine.😝 Sima Jia brings Tingyan a jade pillow that will only allow good dreams. Hers is all about sweets and family. That’s really not surprising. She offers him cake and is back to her bubbly happy self here. She is more somber in reality, but she talks to him lovingly and wants him to take care of himself and not ever use her like that again. He is listening, but there is no way to know what future will want from them. They see each other in their soul lands and this time he is paying attention. He makes her an even stronger necklace to guard her while he is gone. He tries everything he can do to keep her safe. He has found the Shi flame, but he cannot break the barrier and the episode ends….

I watched this with Viki and there are only 8 episodes. There are spoilers for any watching the 18 episode version. ShiQi proved with her eyesight that she was not Shen Qin. The prince himself had rescued her from the fireworks but her eye was still damaged. When she could read the word regret, he knew it was not her. Her mole was also a distinct difference. The next crown prince was to be chosen and his brothers were making their moves. He was highly encouraged to go home and explain what happened as his father might be merciful. Her visit to face swapper had an extra surprise. When she went in to where her sister was, she was maniacally stabbing the cat eyed being that had face swapped them. She took her home where she would let no one near her. Shi Qi braved it and started talking about how difficult to look at reflection with different face. She then learned that this was not her older sister, but Shen Qin with her face. That her sister had swapped places years ago and had removed her shoulder blossom and carved the one on her. Shi Qi’s sister had borne the brunt of being Shen Qin and told them both they should thank her. The one for taking the abuse and the other for providing her a good husband. Shi Qi felt guilty she was the reason her sister ended up in the brothel and had she known she would have left sooner so her sister would not have been stuck with the medicine bills. She warned them both that if anything happened to the prince she would never forgive them. The prince showed up at the generals mansion and kidnapped Shi Qi. He was hoping to escape from punishment. Shi Qi blocked the general’s shot and tried to talk the prince into going. It was then he was convinced she truly was not Shen Qin and did not know him. He had no intention of admitting any fault. The crown prince had indeed died from croup. But the medicine had fallen and he had deliberately not assisted in getting it for him. While he did not kill the crown prince, he wasn’t innocent either. He pushed Shi Qi to general and stabbed himself. Shortly after the sister did same and laid on his chest. Time elapses and there is a new baby girl, Fubao,in the house. The General and wife and daughter were at the night market. There is a sudden snow and the General goes to get them candied hawthorns. While he was gone Shi Ji sees a couple that looks like her sister and Prince. They greet each other and they leave with Shi Qi gazing after them. She asks the General if it is possible for more people to have the same faces. And the episode ends. Did they fake their deaths or a timely couple of dopplegangers? We get to decide. What I want to know is what happened to Shen Qin with the older sister’s face? They did not say what became of her. It was a well told story with an interesting end twist, and would have been perfect minus the brother and telling the end of Shen Qin. It is definitely worth the watch as the concept is interesting.

I am watching on Viki so only 8 episodes. There will be spoilers for those watching 18 episode version. There are sweet moments with General and wife. He is so tender with her. 🥰 He loves watching his two girls interact. He now understands why general’s fight to the death…it is to protect and preserve their families. His advisor grins over them now instead of being suspect if her at every opportunity. I never considered the doc to be the plant for Prince.😝 Now the Prince knows she is expecting and he wants to be all tender over her. The general doesn’t even know she is expecting yet. I am not sure if she fears losing the baby or if she doesn’t want General to be forced to stay with her when he finds out her identity. If she only knew she would fess right up to him who she is. Shen Qin is regretting the face swapping because she is losing her lover and status being the painter girl. She is very unhappy and hasn’t told Prince she is also expecting. Because of her lie, the Prince has every reason to believe the baby is his. Only she and Shi Qi know the truth of it. It was very funny the way all those women were lined up with bats to beat Prince😂I hope the general just knocked out the two following her rather than killing them. They were only making sure she got home. She is so happy to see him after trying to clobber him😂🥰 These two are a sweet couple. They will both do whatever it takes to save the other. They are planning on finishing the wedding vows so they will be considered wed by law. This was deliberately left out initially so that she could divorce more easily. Now that they are more sure, he wants it etched in stone. The prince has agreed to back off and has bribed the doc with tonics to give to the wife. He is a mess and collapses on Shi Qin. The episode ends with her wondering if he mourned casting her aside or had fallen in love with the new her? Damned good questions. I am still enjoying the story and music. I like that there is little to no filler time. The brother is the only one in the filler category, but somebody has to be fall guy for the dumb decisions of the prince. 😝
