Battle plans

The snow fox has his revenge on XuYi. I could not feel too much sorrow at his fate because who knows how many he has branded and mistreated. However, this seems to be just the beginning for snow fox…he shares ShiJi’s vision of ridding Spirit-master kingdom of humans. I am glad that he killed one she had many more plans for. Jin RenFeng has managed to place himself well with Alliance. That they are so easily duped is disheartening. But Jin RenFeng manages to land on his feet and like cockroach survives when he shouldn’t. Snow fox is caught listening by Lai. Lai knows something is up but he waits to see where Snow Fox’s loyalties really are. I am glad they are figuring out way to destroy mother talisman. This object shouldn’t even exist. This is what allows the Jin RenFengs and ShiJis to take unmerited control. Neither one could actually earn it. Neither are willing to go through the work and discipline involved to actually lead. She runs on emotion of hatred and he on fear and bullying. They are cowards at base as their own survival far outweighs any ‘cause’ they seem to support. It is sweet how YueChu looks after HongHong with cooking. Her face when he said she was only one he would cook for. 😁YaYa is so obtuse about what is right in front of her. With her sister and with Lai. Rong Rong is the most astute sister about what is going on with things. YueChu gives HongHong a chicken to hide from sis and it seems like the extra Qi in him is starting to cause trouble. Things do not bode well for ShiKuan, but I am hoping he can circumvent ShiJi’s plans for Spiri-Master kingdom. The princess has done first important thing. She has removed the talismans’ hold over the spirits in city. This will put pressure on ShiJi for not. Like RenFeng she rules through fear which will not instill loyalty.

Best cure for hiccups🥰

‘Looking for me?” Best line after bomb scare. That teary eyed look of relief said it all. He is still giving her a bit of hard time but he wants to know what happened. His father is going to get surgery so he knows he will be seeing more of Lu Yan. There is history of bad news so he understands his mom’s fear. At the wedding two other ‘friends’ show up Ding Jing and Wen Peng. They have their own attachments to Cheng Yi and Lu Yan.😝 The wedding was beautiful and there is a nice flashback to ChengYi proposing before getting to police academy. Lu Yan says she knows cure for hiccups. 😂 He sees it requires a bit more to cure them. As they glance at each other in wedding party, their wannabe love interests are staring from audience. ChengYi did an excellent job with lipstick comment in elevator and pushing Wen aside for photo😆 Cheng Yi is making it clear he gets first try for Lu Yan’s attention.

Surprise meeting

Lu Yan is an anesthesiologist who is doing rather well in her career. She is invited by Dr Han to evaluate a patient with a benign tumor that requires surgery because of location. She has all the case history and is ready to make a presentation to the family when she sees her ex boyfriend (Cheng Yi) from 8 yrs ago. What strikes me as interesting is that the mom had no idea she and son were acquainted. The family declines the surgery and she is asked by the doctor to talk the family into the surgery. That was not an option for her as the opportunity was taken away by other distractions. Flashbacks reveal she is the one that broke off the relationship. She also finds out from a mutual friend that she and ex will both be at an upcoming wedding. The next day a wounded man collapses in hospital entry with a bomb attached. Her ex turns out to be a detective and finds himself drafted to defuse bomb because of his prior work experience. Lu Yan volunteers to assist with surgery because it’s her regular shift. So now a doctor is handling spleen while detective is handling bomb. Surgery went well and medical staff leaves til bomb removed to close up patient. Lu Yan stays because her job is to monitor patient. The excitement continues when they both get to simultaneously cut two wires. Bomb is safely detonated outside and the exes get to ensure each other is safe. We are not told why the breakup but it’s clear they both have feelings. If he had any doubts of her job capability, she proved herself brilliantly assisting with bomb patient.

Lies and spies

Jin RenFeng and ShiJi are miserable souls. They lied to the demons and then killed them by destroying their talismans. They would be the ‘sacrifices’ to stir up hate between spirits and humans. They are plotting to kill the Princess, HongHong and YueChu all at same time. They caused considerable damage as they always do and have so far been successfully countered. YueChu poisoned his blood so when RenFeng stole some he got a surprise.😝😁 This let YueChu get half the talismans back. Unfortunately Kuan’s isn’t one of them. This has been the biggest disappointment so far. The princess is trying to save him by kicking him out of the palace and firing him from his job- but he is equally determined to protect her no matter the cost. HongHong used half spring snow and did considerable damage to ShiJi. Both of these wretched, worthless villain wannabes got their asses kicked. Unfortunately our heroes did not have enough strength to take them out permanently. Everybody is healing up and getting ready for next round. Snow fox has shown how over the edge he is about humans. I can’t blame him for wanting to return the favor to his tormentor. But I am annoyed that he did absolutely nothing to help protect YaYa which should have been his top priority going with her. The writer wasted this character because he had potential to truly be a villain. He had far more possibilities then the ones chosen who had worn out their welcome in first part of story. 😝 The drunkard fox confirmed from life island that a fox had been removed. This pretty much confirms ShiJi but they do not know who helped her by taking her pieces off the island. RenFeng is requiring blood more often and the demon girl is paying the price for helping YueChu. It is long past time to get rid of RenFeng. Lai is cute with YaYa. He is trying to get her to see who he is but she really is tunnel visioned with him. 🤣 They are at least a bit of respite amidst all the gloom.

Mother talismans

HongHong makes it to Spirit-Master kingdom and ShiJi makes it look like she and Lai have killed a bunch of demons. Fortunately YueChu showed up to catch an arrow meant for HongHong. There is treachery in the palace and they now know the king was poisoned-just not who did it. They have a list that most likely has the culprit on it. ShiJi not wanting to touch the talismans yet wanting to keep them. It was disgusting that she lined up demons to kill off one by one destroying their mother talismans to gift HongHong. Lai is quite useful with that 7 day sleep poison. It is coming in handy in a variety of places. Revolts are already breaking out in the kingdom and the humans are being horrid taskmasters with beatings. These really deserve some payback. But that these poor demons don’t realize they have just swapped masters and that the new one cares even less for their lives is sickening. ShiJi is such a waste as a villain. Lai tried to praise her efforts to make her sound bigger than she is. Causing revulsion sums up her and RenFeng. The princess’ guard has not considered himself the one she loves and he is doing his best to be honorable and keep her safe. The princess is disillusioned with things as the people closest to her have betrayed her family. I hope our trio gets things sorted before the kingdom is only filled with dead bodies. YueChu and HongHong have already found a secret location and ShiJi is not ready to counter them yet. YueChu has other plans as he sneaks behind a released prisoner. Next episode will determine if this is part of a plan or if he is sneaking out on his own.

Love vs evil

The flower to preserve DongFang Lou’s soul was contaminated. Even with YueChu’s fire they were unsuccessful. He took the extra Qi to guard it for her. Yaya got the bandits drunk, but Lai used poison because it was cheaper. 🤣 These foxes keep track of every penny. The princess and guard gave sincere wishes at the tree but no flower came. I think they were all very disappointed at that result. The princess now knows something is wrong at home and makes arrangements with YueChu to get to Spirit-Master kingdom quickly. They were smart in splitting up as she took one route with YueChu and her guard and carriage took another. He handled the demon bandits without killing them. The princess finds her father near death and he tells her to guard the mother talisman. This will help prevent a demon revolt. I really hate these talismans and their ability to subdue and suppress the demons. This is an offshoot of Nangong family and beast kingdom from last drama. That ShiJi wants to use this to unite the 6 kingdoms is nauseating. Her greed for hate has not changed and the carnage she leaves in her wake hasn’t lessened. Jin RenFeng is still her lackey. As a human, how does he think things will go for him when she has control of all demons? How will he be useful and why would she let him have a flame that could kill her? These are lame villains and again way too much time is wasted on them when there are many characters much more interesting. The edict is changing and forcing HongHong on love quest. I do not see YueChu minding to assist her when she gets there.

Evil reborn

HongHong was successful in giving her bone spirit to the tree, but she is now forever directly connected to the tree for good or ill. YueChu’s divine fire helped her succeed. Unfortunately ShiJi had just enough dark to take form. HongHong requires healing from a leech demon who knows how greatly her power has been reduced giving her bone to the tree. She seeks justice for the leech demon RenFeng killed. HongHong now knows about RenFeng’s blood swapping abilities and agrees to assist. A princess from the Spirit-master Kingdom brings the requested flower. It is not yet clear what the flower is for. HongHong visits DongFang Luo. Is he just a friend or was he more and what is their story? The princess in return wants the option to pair with a demon. YueChu is interested in the answer she gets. Her demon guard is treated poorly. I am not sure if he freely serves the princess or is bound by a talisman. Yaya shames the mob into leaving the visitors alone. ShiJi continues to find losers for sidekicks. This one is offered prestige if he kills the visiting princess. HongHong has received a divine edict. She sends old drunkard fox to island to determine if ShiJi has reclaimed her essence and is now alive. She is bloodthirsty and mean spirited but not particularly a capable villain. It is a shame this story uses these bottom barrel choices as nemesis characters. They do not merit the amount of screen time they are being given. YueChu has cultivated to second level divine sun fire. QinLan would be very proud.

Meeting heroes

Ao Lai San shao and YaYa’s first encounter. 🤣 Maybe she would have recognized his shadow better. 😂 Wherever he came from he recognized the darkness in Tushan and came to investigate. HongHong has deduced the most likely one behind the darkness. Somehow ShiJi got a bit of her essence into HongHong before the final blow. That drunkard old fox is a pain in the arse. He tried to sacrifice YueChu. But, had he been successful, the darkness would have been successfully defeated and the story much shorter. HongHong has come up with a solution to save YueChu’s life but the result is her life entwined with the tree. They will live and die together. None of the foxes think it is a wise choice but she is determined to go through with it. The old drunkard reveals the plan to YueChu. ShiJi has now been alerted that her plan was almost thwarted so she will quicken the pace to get her way first.

Ashes of love

This is an insidious plot of black fox. That clod RenFeng is still too useful. I am most annoyed with drunkard fox elder that was easily waylaid and not around to warn or assist in time. This caused grief for tree and HongHong. The nightmare weavers successfully got HongHong into a nightmare and turned all the flowers to ash for the lovers waiting at tree. YueChu and YaYa split up…he to the dream and she to rid the world of RenFeng. HongHong anticipated the true target and had as many safeguards as possible but there were too many fronts and not enough assistance. Yaya did well for the lack of warning and help she received. That miserable RenFeng is always gifted just enough dark to slink away like the cockroach he is. It is beyond annoying that he is allowed to wreak the havoc he does. YueChu was warned not to use magic but that is what got HongHong out of the nightmare. What we do not know yet is how much harm he did to himself. HongHong has stopped a good bit of the damage but I do not know if the barrier is down to allow resentment to take over tree. I am curious why YueChu did not get a flower or even a petal. I thought HongYe and HuaiZhu each got petals. If love is not deep enough in his heart it is in hers or she would not have come out of that dream. That white fox is like a spy. He is in the midst of them but I am not assured his intentions for them are good. His hate for humans is quite strong and I see that as a unique barrier from the rest of Tushan to cause damage. He has no comprehension how they all can be fond of the human YueChu. His love for YaYa might help, but it seems her idol has joined the party so now we can see if it is love or fantasy she feels for him.

YueChu continues DongFang tradition of liking those wearing masks😆

The only thing I am really hating about this drama is the length of screen time it is giving to that fake fire holder Jin RenFeng. 😝 100 eyed demon king or more of demon king and JiaLan story would have been so much better to have more information about. Is this a new black fox? Or an old one reborn? Is different from last drama so the only thing the same is connection to RenFeng. Now we have to wait for two more efforts from him to fail before he is out of the story. He is even more repugnant than old Yang and Nangong elder. So why did writer give him so much of the story? He is not even truly powerful. He is a scheming thief who doesn’t know how to wield what he stole. He is not a worthy villain but more a pain of an instigator managing too many far more interesting characters to be killed off due to his machinations. HongHong and RenFeng have a battle in the forest and YueChu reveals himself. The one good thing that came of this is he is aware of how much training he needs to defeat RenFeng. HongHong surprises him with a mask and it is like seeing inverse of his uncle’s and aunt’s introduction. 😂 History can repeat. Tiger and Crane were dealt with but he is revealed to demon assisting RenFeng and while YueChu knows this he is not seeing her as strong of an enemy as he should. I enjoyed his purchases of idol merchandise to get YaYa’s attention🤣 However this resulted in jealousy of Snowfox who went and tattled to HongHong. He thinks he is being clever and protecting YaYa, but she is trying to curb his hatred of humans by letting him see they are not all the same. So far, this has been very unsuccessful. YueChu is now jealous of him with HongHong. What is humerous is his reading about signals of love and thinking snow fox is in love with HongHong. 😂 He is in definite denial with this. I wonder if he will get a flower. That would be an interesting development . The heart of the grief tree is corrupted. The darkness is spreading like a cancer and HongHong is hoping the 100 year matchmaking event will counterbalance the evil with good. The new fox spirit is already planning something bad with RenFeng so I am hoping there is enough true love to counter it. The elder drunken fox is spying on DongFang Fire Villa. He is powerful and useful but his love of the wine bottle may outdo him sooner than later with enemies. It was clever and funny how he detained Tiger and Crane. The dark attack after YueChu killed off the immortals was fortunately blocked by HongHong seal. But that is making the dark side even more determined to go after her as well as YueChu. Thus the attack on the grief tree. The evil is willing to play the long game and it is whittling away Tushan defenses to keep things peaceful between humans and demons.

YueChu the debt collector

Jin RenFeng continues to plot. His dark fire is making its presence known to grief tree and HongHong is trying to figure out how to counter with least bloodshed. In this she is far wiser than humans in first portion of story. His demon knows how to extort info from Tiger and Crane but they still vainly think they can profit the blood for themselves. HongHong continues to both train and monitor YueChu. The heaven earth thread remains her tracker but she is also giving him skills to protect himself. She has relented by allowing him to take the wolf’s place as debt collector. But, the three fox sisters see through his plan to get demon shop collectors to leave Tushan and hide in human market. HongHong allows this because she wants to get Jin RenFeng out of DongFang villa and defeat him with as few as possible. She is hoping to prevent war between humans and demons and keep them segregated and at least in truce if not peace. She is aware of the failed attempt for them to coexist from last story and continues to monitor border. She ultimately allows YueChu to exit Tushan but keeps tracker thread in place and has personally trained him. He is as ready as he can be. He just isn’t aware of the degree HongHong has actually helped him with his plans. A wounded snow fox has made his way to Tushan and YaYa wants to look after him. It is unclear if the white fox is friend or foe since YueChu cut off talking about his arrival to air his market plans. The special effects of this drama are not near as flashy as first part, but the story is well told if this is watched second and not first. I have no clue why this was released first because without DongFang history there is no understanding of Jin RenFeng and the danger he represents or explanation of human boy in Tushan. YueChu had a different father, but he sure acts a lot like a combination of QinLan and QuZhou😄

QinLan’s story

After Love In Pavilion this drama continues the DongFang story through QinLan. Jin RenFeng has found them and needs her blood to repair what HuaiZhu removed from him in last drama. He now hunts her child YueChu and is as repulsive as he ever was. I am hoping this second part of story kills him off.😝 QinLan was protected by Tushan because her blood could heal the grief tree. So the DongFang family is hunted for their blood by humans and demons. HongHong wants the child for his blood but unlike RenFeng she doesn’t really want to harm him and wants him available for tree if needed. As the story progresses it is clear YueChu knows he is hunted and why. HongHong acquaints herself with him for a reward of cooked chicken and to keep tabs on him after death of his parents. I am thinking HongHong somehow prevented RenFeng from getting QinLan’s blood and if it was used for grief tree it helped keep the dark at bay while YueChu grew up to age 16. It was difficult hiding the child as Tushan rejects all humans, but she managed it and had him train near the tree so he could cultivate his divine fire. It would take him much longer but his power would be quite strong once he overcame the suppression from the grief tree. Even 16 years later RenFeng keeps his bounty hunters in place by border and parents memorial still hoping to trap YueChu. HongHong would have been successful had the wolf trader not been a blabbermouth to a pretty demon traveler. RenFeng now knows YueChu is still alive and where and his new demon blood cleanser is hoping to escape once YueChu is available. This first episode fills in QinLan’s story and continues. I am just wishing a better choice than vile Jin RenFeng.😝

Cultivating hope

QinLan has still not been found. I was hoping they would get to say goodbye. HuaiZhu and HongYe visit Tushan hoping the foxes will help make peace accords with the demons. Without help it is not likely the humans can manage it. There is just too much bad blood on both sides. HuaiZhu has promised to combine divine blood with WangQuan to strengthen the alliance and bring back the numbers. Tushan at first did not agree to assist. They wanted to be neutral. But after witnessing and actually feeling the love between HongYe and HuaiZhu, they changed their minds and redistributed land and boundaries to allow a truce and hopefully peace between humans and demons. HuaiZhu’s candid chat and both of them acknowledging to enjoy the time they have helped the Tushans to reconsider. HongYe was so meticulous overseeing HuaiZhu’s care and preparing for child. The baby arrived and what should have been a glorious day became HongYe’s heartbreak. He has already begun shuttering himself in. The light has left his eyes and even his new son can’t bring it back. The falling flute from the dresser was an especially poignant scene. HongYe is going to keep the promise of finding his sword spirit. Young Fu Gui is already following strict routine of sword practice. He allows him fruit from the memorial but does not share stories of HuaiZhu or comfort. We are seeing what he will become when older as a father. But…if he is honoring the requests of HuaiZhu with the sword, that means he must also honor Fu Gui’s request to leave when he asks. We are given a glimpse of the future and hope fate will be kinder.

Solutions found

Jin RenFeng is nicely countered. I was startled when the sword shattered. This made things slightly different in the wedding arrangements. This traitor of a disciple does not deserve the position they are allowing him. He has unfortunately achieved just enough power to hold it. To keep the noble peace they will join families letting him keep the head of DongFang villa and HuaiZhu will become HongYe’s concubine. I still do not understand all the politics involved with nobles and marriage but I think this is the gist of it. They gave that miscreant a way out to spare the lives of both households. He is so undeserving. And the lack of spirit that HongYe is experiencing I lay blame on the father who suppressed his ability to believe in the possibility of the unbelievable. This may make him a more ‘responsible’ leader…but it has made him see limits rather than possibilities. HuaiZhu is also at a loss. Between QinLan’s missing status, the murder of her father and that snake being in control of her house she is struggling to maintain as it seems she is also with child. I am glad she was given the information on how to take back what he stole. I am thinking the leech demons may have helped with that so no future attempts can be made with this. I am glad she was successful in wounding him and I am glad HongYe was there to assist. I did not think of the flame not harming her and I don’t think he did either. The one thing that has not wavered is his limitless love for her. After all the human cruelty towards them, the demons are now revolting against the humans and the slaughter continues. HongYe and HuiaZhu do not see how to stop the hatred between the species. As long as it exists, the black fox is only suppressed not destroyed. The only satisfaction I have had about RenFeng is seeing the effect of losing ‘ his’ divine blood. At first I thought he was old DongFang not dead trying to undo what was taken. To see him like that was the best scene with him since beginning. HuaiZhu was right that this would be worse than death for him. Nobody knows where QinLan is. They have set up a decoy with guards to make it seem she is protected to stop the searches—but they are still looking themselves. HongYe is bearing all the ill will of the humans not happy that demons are killing en mass and the demons are not interested in making peace with talisman holders. It is a grave situation where everyone is questioning the sacrifices made and wondering when and if this can end.

Battles on the homefront

HongYe and QuZhou are dealing with survivor guilt. And that wretch RenFeng did not let HuaiZhu know he was alive so he most likely thinks that HuaiZhu doesn’t want to see him. I am glad the servant cleared that up but the delay was too long. Puppy Li and QinLan are definitely star crossed. These two should have been a pair but fate continues to work against them. HuaiZhu and QuZhou talisman have removed QinLan from her home but RenFeng is crafty and had a backup plan. She is last seen throwing herself off a cliff and the cowardly guards aren’t going to let their master know. Shen Yue and LiuShiShi performed brilliantly as parting sisters. They had a most touching scene before she got talisman to transport QinLan. The candies were a very sweet gift and a fitting memory between them. HuaiZhu has fought so bravely. She has held her own in spite of the lie she was told that HongYe was dead. RenFeng is laughing his ass off and showing off his stolen yang fire thinking he has won his prize of the eldest daughter. His misfortune begins when HongYe breaks through the gate. Now that HuaiZhu knows he is alive, even in their current conditions I don’t see them as being stoppable.
