Glory to dust to determination

This was a very impactful episode. We start with the bravery of troops fighting overwhelming odds, the betrayal causing reinforcements to arrive too late, and the discarding of the courageous to make room for those feigning honor and loyalty to emperor. He Yan has been disguised forever as her ailing brother. She received martial arts training as soon old enough and was partnered with the general’s son to be the two swords that would secure the empire. We don’t know why she was delayed but the general died in her arms as she arrives too late to support them. His son is rightfully angry and grabs the twin sword they were given saying she was unworthy. She vows to clear the general’s name and then is poisoned and hidden in the very temple she has never seen but always assumed to be healing in. Her ‘brother’ shows up to claim all her glory and to outright lie about the occurrences on the battlefield. He steps right in and immediately wants to silence his sister. The father and son are nauseating in their treatment of the very people that fought to the death for their protection. They have taken the most loyal and banished or silenced them to keep their treachery and disguised son’s secret. They poisoned He Yan so that she was blinded and then still wanted her life. It is interesting that she and Xiao Jue meet briefly when he intervenes and thwarts the plan on her life. Both unaware of the treachery behind the scenes. She escapes and has a run in with fake general’s guard. What I like is that she met that guard with courage fighting with what she had. While still defeated, that guard knew he was fighting a general and not the weak woman he claims her to be. He assures the general she is dead and they feel secure in their deceit. Somehow she survives and is healed by a physician well acquainted with her. She can now see and is as determined as Xiao Jue to make things right. She enters the garrison with a smile feeling she is at home and ready to get started. I liked how Xiao Jue and He Yan walked mirror paths. They are equally determined to get to the truth that occurred on that disastrous day 30k troops lost their lives. They are both willing to put their lives on the line and even tho coming from the lowest place possible, they are free from the He’s and can pursue their goals with unbridled determination. I really enjoyed this first episode. It laid out the premise for these two quite nicely.

The bloody trials day 1

Han Li is discovered by jerk disciple who has just poisoned his ex fiancée with a level two aphrodisiac. He is really a vile person. He wants her deflowered so that he can claim infidelity cause for breaking engagement. Han Li ks up against a stronger opponent and knows it. This does let him try out his new toys. The shield has come in most handy. The fight is well choreographed and exciting to watch. The speed talisman and new sword end up defeating the jerk while he gloated. This gave Han Li a new weapon and two foundation pills. He burns up the disciples body and heads out. Unfortunately the senior is sexually beserk and he knocks her unconscious and gives her an oblivion pill. This I think is a bit cowardly on his part because he should have put her somewhere to get help. However, he is the sore thumb that nobody wants there. His first reaction is survival. I am not the least bit sorry he killed the jerk prior to trial grounds but the girl….that is a gray area. When everybody shows up his colleagues know he is missing but think he’s already there. The elders have no clue they are missing a person and not really worried about number count going in. This is where I would have thought a bit more security because there will be a sixty year wait before another harvest. Han Li was right tho, these elders sit around and make bets while the disciples risk their lives to get foundation pill ingredients. In the beast group, the demonic sect have added their guys and they are already killing disciples before they hit the ground. They are on their way to wreak havoc. Han Li spends most of the day hiding. He has found spider web weapon that is razor sharp to add to his inventory. The GrandMaster has entered with a group, she has suppressed her cultivation so that she could enter to get the flower needed for Yan girl. The old man that laughs weird has teamed up with two other sects to have a bigger overall map. He offers Han Li a chance to team up and Han Li refuses. I can’t tell if this old guy is good or bad, he is just odd. The disciples are dropping like flies and only one elder has noted. The one new recruit listened about killing others to get herbs. She is already trying that method out and is about to get the sr that ‘s been poisoned by jerk disciple. As she yells for help the moonshadow girl mocks her that no one will come and then Han Li shows up with his shield to defend her. He owed her this, so I’m glad he chose chiv. The episode ends with day one of bloody trial survived and the battle with moonshadow girl and Han Li getting ready to start. Production has done an excellent job of making this world look real. The battles are exciting and the interactions between the cast are entertaining.

Refining and preparing for trial grounds

Master Xu turns out to be costly. He reveals that the secret of refining is having a decent forge and for the sale price of 180 gems he will sell Han Li a forge and throw in some recipes. These recipes include foundation pills. HanLi tries out his new forge and makes oblivion and gold dragon pills. He notes the quality is quite good. This from having a decent forge and from the matured herbs he can grow with his moon essence bottle. Everybody is talking about the trial grounds and making plans to go…or not. The elders from all sects gather and have a serious discussion. First GrandMaster notes the lack of security and communication between sects and is rather shocked. She shows them evidence their world is waning because of over utilizing its spiritual source. She encourages them to close off the trial grounds after this harvest for sixty years. The poorer sects without a cache of pills is definitely against this measure. But even they can’t deny something needs to be done to conserve the rare spiritual plants. The GrandMaster also tries to bring their attention to demonic sect invading. She is openly laughed at for this assumption even as they fly overhead to infect the trial grounds. There was also mention to add those from 7 sects to start doing their jobs…so all seven sects have sleeper demon sect disciples hid within their realms. Each sect is choosing who will participate. Han Li was going to wait til next trial til he heard sixty year wait. That changes his mind at last minute and he throws himself into the contest. That night he heads to a shop for weapons and defense items. He sees what’s offered and says he’ll take them all. The merchant laughs til he smells two herbs 500 and 1000 years old. At that point he is ready to close shop and hand it to Han Li lock stock and barrel. Here he also uses the name Li FeiYu to hide who is really purchasing. Jerk disciple has stolen his fiancée’s foundation pill and broken off engagement. He has her bound and silenced where Han Li witnesses…and then of course the episode ends😝

DIY cultivating

Nemesis jerk is still whining about losing out on foundation pill and gives all 300 gems reward earnings to mentor Ye for the pill. He runs into Han Li and tries to battle pill out of him. Fortunately mentor Wu was around to stop the fight. Han Li is making himself useful as a healer to mentor Wu, who against his better judgment, decides to offer additional help. He sells him a small library of helpful techniques and Han Li returns the favor with healing techniques. After every follow-up healing, master Wu shares new spells or helpful hints to progress.Han Li is referred to mentor Ye for job position. He finds that it costs money to make money. Even mentor Wu agreed that Han Li does nothing wrong but sticks out like sore thumb. So when mentor Ye forces the sale of his foundation pill, he gains the gardening job and accepts the loss of pill in stride. His first abilities must be herbs and pill refining. Then he can make his own foundation pills later. At the garden he meets master Ma and flower girl with enchanting eyes. She learns that he is not charmed like all the others so she is even more interested in him. She helps him out with good weather talismans. He cares for the garden and quietly cultivates on his own without disturbance from other disciples. Mentor Ma agrees to let him reside in the garden as long as no plants destroyed. This lets him study and progress at the rate he is able. At the end of his task period master Ma is pleased and pays him well. His time is extended to 6 mth check-ins. Han Li wants to learn to refine pills and Ma refers him to Xu who is in charge of written materials and refining. Han Li has learned to bribe with sweets😂 This master resembles cousin Itt.😂

Ascension token and joining yellow maple leaf

Grand Master got there in time to get creepy and dark lord out of the forest and spare Han Li. He has a lucky mantle that shrouds him in good fortune when talent and artifacts aren’t enough. Maybe since Mo couldn’t defeat him, he sent him with luck to take the path he wanted. When he gets close to yellow maple location the talisman flies off to return home. Apparently it has been 500-600 years since one has been seen. It also may have been making him work to make up for the fact he wasn’t gifted it, but claimed as a reward for defeating the owner. He prevaricated when asked how he got it. He admitted to being mortal and not of a clan but deliberately kept vague about it. He found out that admittance and a foundation pill were the prizes for using it. His nemesis wasn’t too happy when he learned his promised pill had been forfeited due to Ascension Token guy. 😝 since this was such a rare occurrence, this was his claim to fame with few knowing his real name. The one thing his new mentor noted was his gratitude for admittance. It struck a chord because most of these new recruits came with a sense of entitlement and lack of work ethic. He presented Han Li his foundation pill and told him to guard it well. It was implied that it might never be used. Han Li was sad that the resounding opinion was materials wasted. He is determined to prove them wrong. He is learning to use his new talisman gear and the last class was leaf flying. The master wanted to know if sparrow or swan….I vote eagle.😁 The first spell he wanted was aura concealer. While he was mocked and unable to do it, he knows being able to hide is worth his time to learn. He accepts that he will have to work many times harder than everybody there. He doesn’t flinch from it but glad for the opportunity. His tenacity is what will move him along rather than innate skills. The sect master was right with his swan choice. He has that regal look on the leaf at the end. It suits him.

Family issues

Kai takes YaEn home and tries in his bungling way to see where she stands on relationships. She candidly tells her thoughts and looks at him so sweetly and he mucks it up trying to kiss her.😂 It is a complete disaster but I still root for them when she’s ready. There is a very sweet scene with Ya En cuddling her son. This is where drama gets that perfect slice of life picture. This is why I get so frustrated with the handling of the leads when this part is so beautiful. Rich girl decided her next action would be to involve Ye Meng’s dad. She confessed and then let Jin Yu know he could have his asides and she would let him. She had made sure Ye Meng’s dad was there to hear. He suggested she utilize her cleverness to learn the project. She did and said phase three would demolish the local fishing village. He wanted to think on it. Ye Meng’s dad surprised me. He suggested that sometimes the past had to be let go and the village as a port would get more tourists and business. The same as he and Ye Meng letting the past rest and look to future. With the other matter, he sent Ye Meng home with a durian saying he needed it 😂 And Jin Yu learned a lot about catching and cleaning fish. He actually got off easy. Kai finally got a lead on Zhou Yu. He grew up in same orphanage as Ye Meng’s mom. The guy that wanted money for land deal collected money through orphanage. He was discovered and jailed, but the notoriety of the orphanage cause the family that would have adopted Zhou Yu to change their minds, so he holds a deep grudge. This was why he was ready to attack her. He still looks like he has more plans when he found out her mom was part of the project. Many children lost their chance for a family because of the fallout from this project. She demanded answers from her dad and gma and finally learned the truth. Her mom fell into an investment trap and because she believed and trusted the guy that sold her ring, she invested and lost heavily. Once he had her money she couldn’t contact him. She was one of the main people driving the investment from the community and she had an angry mob in her face demanding their money back. This pressure ultimately led to her suicide. Ye Meng was furious that they had kept the truth from her. At first she was too young, they wanted her to have good memories of her mom and as she got older, it was just easier to let it slide and look to the future. Especially since he had been punished for his crimes. There are still some hard feelings but the air is cleared and the truth is known tho far from pleasant. As Jin Yu heads to his house he finds his gma collapsed outside. They learn she has a brain tumor. Her health is shaky for surgery, but the operation is her best odds to prolong life. They now have to get together and make some tough choices. As for Jin Yu’s mom, she has no concern whatsoever about a marriage alliance. She just wants to shed this project and let it be Lin Family’s problem. For all the lies Ye Meng tells regularly, well apples don’t fall far. She can let go of her angst about bad grades or not measuring up with her mom and look to future. I liked how Jin Yu interceded for his father in law. He knew from personal experience how precious those familial ties are. He is doing his best to embrace her family and is starting to make some true progress. The leads are taking baby steps in the right direction and I am hoping the writer gets rid of the lies soon and lets them become a real family.

Divorce party and relationship subterfuge

Ming Xiao is a nervous wreck and making a spectacle of himself. He is saved when boss leaves for business in the city. Jin Yu’s mom invited a rich girl to project that had a crush on him in school. The biggest irony is that this wasn’t done to sabotage , it was just the typical marriage alliance candidate setup. Ms Lin is kinda aggressive in her pursuit. You don’t ask the boss to open a water bottle for you while touring the site😝 She should get together with Ye Meng’s boss because they have the same attitude. She has every reason to think the way she does because she flat out asked Ye Meng if he had a girlfriend and Ye Meng said they weren’t close and she didn’t know. Then she commented on how she pursued her husband aggressively and included Ms Lin on WeChat. This snap back was a stupid decision. Later, Ms Lin states her intentions and asks Jin Yu straight up if he had a girlfriend and Mr broody says nothing. He certainly feels it is none of her business, but he also has no clue what Ye Meng told her.😝The girls meet up at Kai’s to check status on Zhou Yu’s case. They are pre celebrating Ya En’s divorce. They assure Kai that Ye Meng and Jin Yu have made up and he doesn’t believe them. Can’t blame the guy for the mixed signals he gets.😝Ye Meng gives Jin Yu a hard time about the treats he bought and his “date”. But her lies are part of the problem. I get tired of her games when she participates so willingly in the misunderstandings.😝They have a more candid conversation about what happened but she left out the detail where she said she was married. Kai tries to confirm if they’re getting along.😂 They finally get to enjoy the treats he bought. The next morning has a poignant scene with Jia Yu and Ya En.🥰 The little one is so mature. He wants his mom to choose what will make her happy. She has one good man in her life. That is the one blessing her creep of a husband helped her create. Any good in him was given to that little boy. The court approves her divorce and she gets full custody and child support. He is allowed visits if child not endangered. It is bittersweet as a co parent, but the woman Ya En is set free and happy.🥳 while I hate the writer’s mangling of main leads, they did such a wonderful job with YaEn’s story. She and her son plus Gma’s are the highlights of this drama. Poor Kai! He has turned his bar into a restaurant and has a newly single party all planned for Ya En and the girls are celebrating somewhere else. He worked so hard and she has no clue. He comes up with the bright idea to make Jin Yu look like a dirtbag to discourage rich girl. He is having so much fun he posts a picture.😝 He gets a response and the guys head out to rescue their girls from frat boys. Unfortunately, rich girl follows and sees the married Ye Meng dancing with Jin Yu. She ain’t happy and those lies are gonna backfire.

I love Ming Xiao😂

He is my new favorite. His comedic delivery was a very nice respite from a whole lot of trauma drama. That whole confession setup, recording, and aftermath was a very entertaining watch. The race brought PTSD triggers to Jin Yu. The fire was from a crash when he found out the dad he loved and grew up with was not his biological dad. He finally found out why his mother hated him. He went on to finally explain himself and why he did the things he did trying to protect her. It never once crossed her mind that she might be his first and he had quite a learning curve to get through. They have a long way to go and will hopefully do better with subterfuge with this project. At least other musketeer knows.😂 I would almost pity the boss if he wasn’t such a narcissistic ass. He really doesn’t get how pretentious he is when talking to blue collar people. That slide with the bouquet.😂 I really wanted him to find them but poor Ming Xiao might have had a heart attack. It was a shame Ya En did not recall the alley, but she is such a fighter for many and her son is her life. She looks to the future because she has to. Kai is hilarious. He magnanimously lets Jin Yu share his wife. 😂😝🫣 Ming Xiao ran right to Jin Yu disgusted. And even with marriage certificate before his eyes he has hard time believing it. He has every reason to fear the mom so hopefully he will stay out of investigative loop. He just can’t handle it. 🤣Things are about to get very serious so am grateful for one fun episode I truly enjoyed. I wasn’t sure I would get one tbh.

Race to find the truth

The family women gave it their best to play mahjong all night and try to start wedding plans. They are the most entertaining part of this drama. Nemesis girl tried to undermine Ye Meng’s team on the project and got called on it. The biggest irony, nemesis gal and Ye Meng have been rivals since third grade, yet these two could clear the air and call a friendly truce where she and Jin Yu can’t find a way. The boss is obsessed and so convinced he is right choice for Ye Meng that when he hears a rumor Kai is the husband, he offers to accept Kai’s 5 million request. It was a prank but that grin of his is just ew. I don’t know if he loves Ye Meng the way he thinks he does, or sees her as an investment he wants results with. It is unclear why he thought she would love or even respect him after he undercut her project. Was he going for jealousy? Nemesis girl honestly liked him and wanted a work and personal relationship. He had other plans. Nemesis girl was poached by another company and the only smart one getting away from this mess. The third musketeer is invited to site because boss thinks he can bring Ye Meng to a confession scene where he can prove himself the better man. He tells Jin Yu and boss’ plan is interrupted when it turns into a race. Ye Meng really has a death wish as they are traveling around a curve at high speed and she corners him about being the eyewitness to her mom’s murder/suicide.

Muddying the waters

All the positions for the new project are topsy turvy. First of all Jin Yu should have known something was up when his mom acquiesced so easily to him leading the project. Her grin was a mile wide that he and all his friends would burn brightly in whatever ramifications from Wang debacle comes to light. She is more than willing to let her company take the hit to watch him fall hard in such a big way. Wang is not dead apparently, but he was cleaning up something. This is probably key to whatever Ye Meng wants to know. Jin Yu again is doing things to protect her instead of devising a plan with her to counter. This has always been their biggest trouble as a couple. This is why ms nemesis had a foothold to weasel her way into the project. How ironic that they were both part of same three musketeers. Of course she didn’t know him. She was too busy thinking he was a kid to boss around and serve her at her leisure. A twin? Divorce papers in hand? She knows he was blackmailed by nemesis girl and using Kai to hinder her investigation. She should just get in his face and ask why? Their games are tiresome. Her rebuttal to his forced protection will just get her into greater trouble. She is reckless when pissed off and he gets morose and silent heading to a depression spiral rather than clearing the air. Their best option is to get their mutual therapist in the same room and hash things out with a moderator. He might have the know how to get them past themselves. I don’t know if they will ever have a real relationship and I really don’t care at this point. But they need to figure out this mess that has their families intertwined so they both can stop being haunted by it. Then their lives might actually be better whether together or no. I like how he gets sis to do dirty work and get Gma’s involved.😂 That and Kai’s reaction to Jin Yu’s office were the highlights of the episode.

Business as usual

For unknown reasons Jin Yu has requested his company shares and wants in on the project. He is probably wanting to work on the inside to find out what happened to Ye Meng’s mom. If he wanted to keep his wife away from his mom he definitely failed. Ye Meng really didn’t have time to chat prior to her plans but she tends to do first and think later. Jin Yu thinks too much and then finally acts. She feels she returned tit for tat in betrayal dept but she is supposed to be older and more experienced. This again is another wall of half truths and misunderstandings to work around. She has given her boss reason to hope and keep too close to her. If they would have worked, it would have happened long ago. She and Ya En trashed a hotel room while tossing paint on her good for nothing ex to be. He has asked for it and defamed her, but with his temper and proneness to violence, this was not the wisest course of action. He will come back like a wounded bear to cause even more harm. She did get her moment of satisfaction and I hope it works out for her. But the odds are not in her favor after this stunt and Ye Meng will not be around. I want them to solve this ring mystery but after this consider going their separate ways. They are a toxic heat and it seems to get more rather than less acrimonious especially from her end. His penchant for trying to think for her isn’t working either. He is a well intentioned knight, but his prior hurts make him too hesitant to react timely. He has to beat himself up first and then go in a bloody mess mentally to try to deal with her infantile crap. Again the writer and director does them no favors being a couple other than making them pretty and having the potential for steamy scenes. She lacks depth and he lacks confidence. They continue to show what each other lacks rather than a united front to take on the crap that surrounds them. Still waiting to hear about the ring. That has more interest than these two for the moment.😝

Wedding plans

Hi jinx begin already with old boss offering apartments and nemesis girl showing up at Kai’s place. I was getting annoyed with Jin Yu’s half truth collection but this time he showed up. Baby steps. The boss is a rich version of Kai.😝 He obsesses over Ye Meng and thinks he has molded her into the perfect wife to be for his family. However, IF that was his plan, why did he pull the rug out from under her over that project she’d spent a half year working on? How was undermining her job performance to either advantage? He’s a manipulative creep and here is where he is not like Kai at all. He knows how important that ring was to Ye Meng and he cancelled the meeting. Not only that, he made sure the guy was not to be found. Kai would never do such an underhanded thing. I am guessing the nice colleague is Jin Yu’s family member. Jin Yu is going to have to come clean about his family. Ye Meng told them she was married and drew the line in the sand of propriety. She pretty much told ex boss to shove off. 🥳she shouldn’t have left the day after marriage certificate. The info wasn’t going anywhere and there was no particular rush to get that started. She could have worked with Jin Yu from the beginning and cut out the worthless middleman. Now here is where ex boss IS like Kai. She hired an actor cause none of us has even see this guy. 😂 Even his friend knows this is a stretch. She and Jin Yu are now hoping to work with fat Buddha to find the ring seller. She does recognize him as a driver, but for who? They are at least getting a wedding night and Ye Meng is plus one in truth completion category for a change. It is now Jin Yu that must fess up about his family. Now the funniest and scariest part is the battle of the Gma’s. 😂🫣 This is Ye Meng and nemesis girl 30 years from now. IF they can be in same room.🤣This episode was worth it just to watch them have it out. You can tell they go waaaaayyyy back and this battle has been in the works for decades.They did not pull punches and fortunately no bloodshed. But damn, they were feisty and funny. 😂

Crazy matches crazy—you two deserve each other

Ya En said it best😂🫣 There is no telling how long these two will get along, but I loved the flower courtyard and her finding the dog cam that told on him. Gma again has good sense when she chats with Jin Yu. The toast of the aunties 😂🤣 I’m as shocked as Jin Yu because he was not getting good reviews first visit. This is more how I thought they would react first time. Kai and Jia Yu are very cute. Ya En needs a divorce. He is not ok when angry and their arguments are far more alarming for a kid than two peaceful homes. I love how Jia Yu is attuned to Kai and trying to keep him in the loop. This will be messy but I really want to see this couple succeed. Their marriage vows. 🤣😂 Maybe they will make some couple time now since they haven’t managed it yet. She is still heading to the city. Jin Yu won’t go because of family. I would really like to know what that’s all about. He is regretting his choices and lamenting his current financial status, but that is all fixable. I am hoping they take grief therapy together and somehow for him to help with the ring hunt regardless of his family issues. This means her boss probably knows about them. Can’t wait to see how all this good news pans out.😝 I would like to see Gma’s face over this choice and sis….no death metal for reception.😂🥳

How two blockheads become physician disciples

The episode starts with narrator telling how he became a cultivator. He goes back 200 years when he and best friend enter a race to become members of seven mysteries sect. They both are poor, illiterate, and know the only way they can help their families is to place in this contest. They are only known as blockhead until old enough to participate. So today the two friends become Han Li and Zhang Tie. Luck was not with them and they were diverted to be disciples of a doctor. They are taken to a beautiful remote location and tested to see if any value to their mentor. Han Li can cultivate but his friend cannot. So Han Li bargains for both of them to stay and the doc offers to teach Zhang Tie mammoth skin. He also promises to teach them how to read and write. If they can level up, he will pay them the same as seven mysteries sect members so they are happy to be able to send home money to pay off their families’ flour debt. They have three rules to follow. They must pay attention to everything in their surroundings, they are not to interfere with the locals and they must recite and level a mantra. One year later Han Li has reached tier 1 and can read and write. He is becoming too smart so the doc hides the books. Zhang Tie’s skin is developing folds like elephant so he is progressing in strength. Moving on to level 2, Han Li finds a green bottle while herb hunting and learns it collects moonlight. They both know to hide this from the doc. A run in with a couple traitors results in the doc throwing one over the cliff so both now know the doc has hidden martial arts skills. He also has a black entity following him around wanting the leveling to go faster. The doc has a dark secret and is not the benevolent mentor they thought he was. He does help them learn medical skills and herb growing and preparation, but he isn’t as forthright with why he is willing to train them. Han Li is approaching level 3 when episode ends. The drama is very like learning the rules of a video game and how to level up. Fortunately many familiar with the story are explaining things of the cultivation world in comments. It is an interesting premise as their mentor is also their nemesis

Half truths

So Jin Yu is friends with a co worker of Ye Meng’s old boss. He is such a condescending ass. I have no clue why he thinks his ‘charm’ is going to win her over.😝 They are close or he would not know about the ring. He has a name of the seller for her. This guy deals with real estate and antiquities. So as a last resort he trades info to get her back to the city. Nemesis girl struck out with him, but did not share Jin Yu’s name. She was probably hoping to do that over drinks. At the hospital Ye Meng listened to a portion of a conversation with gma and drew her own conclusions. Jin Yu did the same when he saw them at the cafe. These two get all worked up over their half truths and then come together like a big bang and the entire truth is finally screamed out at each other when neither really wants to hear it. Tbh, I am over these two acting like this. They have passion but are too individually wrapped up in their own issues to accommodate each other except as last resort. I am going to complete this drama because I want to know about the ring and backstories. But these two do not bring out the best in each other. If they don’t reach a point where this happens, they don’t need to be together. 😝 on the other hand, there is more hope for Kai. He is all thumbs and a total mess, but he is 100%reliable. I don’t like that guy, but he is the boy’s father. And he would want his dad there. So this is a harder line to walk when a child is involved. For now, I have far more reason to hope for second couple than leads. All the actors are doing a good job, the writer is just making a lot of childish misunderstandings the biggest obstacle for them.
