Divine Forge

This episode was interesting. Leader Ma wants to see how the forge will work on people with strong Qi. He corners Zhuge Qing into helping a guy trapped in his phantasmagoria. He can’t really say no because the mom is begging at his feet and it is an awful position to be in. He agrees knowing that it will open up two places. His and the guy he really doesn’t know. This portion of the story shows a weak man fulfilling his fantasy of being a big fish in a little pond. He refuses to leave and Qing exits the furnace telling the mom he is quite content where he is. She of course finds this unacceptable and when Leader Ma has no way to address the problem, he agrees to go back in. Qing finally gets the guy to accept his far more humble reality and they both exit. However, Qing has his own moral battle to conquer - his desire for learning the Divine forge and sacrificing his sanity, or to accept that Wang Ye has mastered a skill he covets with far less training. He has the blade master from Biyou watch over him and here is where I wish it would have been WangYe. WangYe had a much better understanding of the problem but it seems his victory has left a dark spot in Qing’s heart about the matter so that is maybe why he wasn’t around for this part. Qing did not want his friend to know that he was jealous. The forge has been haulted for now because it was not equipped to handle someone with truly strong Qi. I am glad Qing did not choose the dark side, even in staying. This is something he has needed to deal with and it has hopefully equipped him with the strength to realize that what is in his best interest is not learning the Divine forge. Leader Ma has tipped his hand twice that he is not interested in what is best for the people going in. He has no understanding of what he is doing but is like the mad scientist that wants to see what will happen no matter the chaos. What I am not sure about if this is his chosen path or is his sister manipulating him like he does his followers. Chen Duo is definitely becoming more interesting. Was she the product of her environment, or was she the source of a new power that let loose on its own unguided and destructive? Even Meng has no idea because he just found her there.

Recap and temporary employees new mission

The first several minutes start with cartoonist and succinct recap of preceding I Am Nobody drama. This you may or may not want to speed along. This story begins with an unprecedented amount of super powers causing upheaval with outsiders. BaoBao and ChuLan are still working together on a job when they are confined and told to not exit. A case of a colleague killing her mentor has all upper management debating what to do about temporary workers period. The mentor was killed in a very specific manner that points exclusively to ChenDuo, making her the wanted person to be tracked down by all temporary personnel. Management figure this will be a way to prove loyalty or no amongst the outlier personnel under temporary label. They are given her location and all workers make it clear they don’t want to use teamwork to find her and share credit. ChuLan is the worst about hiding but also ends up being the group chauffeur. We are introduced to new characters and BaoBao once again proves to be the kickbutt character of the group. They are all introduced to Chen Duo but it seems her memory is scrambled and her recollection of her meeting with mentor has him yelling at her. There is also one standing hidden in the background with nothing to determine if he was an observer or participant in the conflict.

They find themselves on the train in phantasmagoria that Wang Ye has been seeing for quite awhile. They find all eight supremes and are following Duanmu Ying into probable disaster.

Double quan palm

This episode we see some of the history of Huan and Liang. Huan had developed skills by being taught by her great grandfather’s captive. She learned how to remove memories to help keep them out of trouble by Liang truly having no memory other than school classes. While she had the ability, Liang figured out the mechanics of it. To what point does the person stay the same with altered memories to becoming a vessel for someone else entirely. Somehow his family had memories altered that he had killed Huan. Tho Liang had no such memory, he was shown the memories of others pointing to his guilt. The elder of the clan transfused blood from an enemy thinking that is what bestowed the soul whisperer gift. He kept an enemy locked up for 60 years to provide blood for 5 generations of Lv family. They locked Liang in dungeon 20 years convinced of his guilt. He was even mutilated and pretty much left to die. What nobody expected was for Liang to have the ability to regenerate limbs because of the enemy’s blood. This plus joining Sinister Pleasure and honing his memory skills let him return home and exact justice for his false imprisonment. Lv Gong and great grandfather definitely guilty, but the rest of his family was as duped as he had been. It was a harsh and extreme punishment he gave them all. It is no wonder Liang has lost it and now has the strength of Sinister Pleasure behind him.

Makoto’s promise

Dr Makino has come full circle. Makoto and his father was a failure for him as a doctor. He really couldn’t read the room and did not have true understanding of their situation other than Makoto’s condition. Their story is changed when Dr Makino figures out a way to have a school carnival help them heal from a great tragedy. His story gave Makoto a broader interpretation of his promise and he managed a candid conversation with the dad that provided healing and encouragement. Makoto’s health continues to improve and he and his father are making steps to truly move forward and remember the wife/mother who was such a blessing to them. The poster they made for Dr Makino was so thoughtful I had tears. But the pages of notes to Ms Shinoya had me bawling. These kids have grown so much and again the wonderful acting just makes your heart full. The children were all happy to have their school nurse return and she made good use of the doctor’s notes. The ending was all that it should be. This is a special drama that deserves a lot more viewers.

Naoaki’s surgery

This episode focused on Nao. He is finally strong enough for the surgery and it’s all about the patience of healing. Kei struggled to enjoy her last bit of school and was gently reminded she had to take care of herself too. The family seems to be healing nicely and Kei and her mom seemed much closer. Everybody is counting the days hoping to see Nao in school. Dr Makino has been practicing catch but I am curious as to why he uses right arm to throw when he writes left handed. Ruka has made it through her surgery and tells Nao bye while he is still waiting to get discharged. It’s a wonderful moment when he lets go of his mother’s hand and goes to join his new friends at school. This was another stellar performance from all the child actors. Dr. Makino gets a surprise in the infirmary.

Finding Mai’s voice

This was a heartwarming episode revolving around a first grader named Mai. At home, she was a regular happy child, talking, singing, dancing and coloring. She was happy and contented with her parents and everybody was looking forward to her starting school. Once there, Mai was unable to speak or move as she wished. Dr Makino learned she had a form of mutism that kept her from communicating at school. A bit at a time the school collectively worked together to help ease her anxiety. Her new friend Misa was a big help in encouraging her and writing notes to pass back and forth so they could ‘talk’. I teared up each time Mai held up her arm at the concert and when she waved at her mom. These child actors are so good. They really draw you into their world. It seems Dr Makino will be learning to play a triangle.😂

Reading the room

This episode starts with Riko who is very loud and somewhat thoughtless. She has a good heart but comes from a wealthy family so a lot of what she says comes out condescending or inadvertently bragging. Her comments about the girls clothes was borderline mean but not truly mean spirited. She wanted to share her stuff but made the other girl feel just awful and not the least bit interested. Knowing she blundered, but not understanding why, Riko has been hiding out in the infirmary studying on her own and avoiding class. It is here that she eavesdrops on a conversation between Dr Mikano and a teacher. They are concerned that Satoshi has not been in school and is refusing to leave his room. They decide to visit his home and find the mom at her wits end and having to leave for work. Turns out she’s an operating room nurse at the hospital Mikano worked at. After she leaves the men try to convince the boy to come out of his room but find themselves unsuccessful. Not only that, Satoshi had escaped out the window where he ran into Riko and a bus adventure began. As they chat, Riko is beginning to understand what ‘reading the room’ means. Against his wishes, she chooses to accompany him on the quest of finding Satoshi’s dad. She becomes helpful because she boldly goes up to a mechanic and asks about his dad. Here he finds out that his dad had quit a month ago and wasn’t there. Dr Mikano catches up with them and rides the bus back. Here he learns he’s not ‘reading the room’ either. They end up at his old hospital where Satoshi is getting an IV and resting. When his mom gets there Riko helps break the ice and a candid conversation takes place. It’s a nice moment and Mikano speaks up to offer both help and encouragement. His old boss is listening and rather surprised at the progress Mikano is making. At school the next day both students decide to get back to class and make things right. He for his mom, and she with her classmates. Here their teacher had a warm fuzzy moment listening to the girls make up. This was another one where Ms Shinoya was not annoying. I am liking her a lot more these last couple episodes. She is learning how to read the room too.

Ms Shinoya

This is the first episode I wasn’t annoyed with Ms Shinoya😂 when she took the time to slow down she is much more personable and a lot less presumptuous. It was also an interesting note that Dr Mikano got her colleagues to realize how much they were taking her for granted and pushing extra work her way. It is often true that the one that works hardest is the most taken advantage of in the workplace. Her stubbornness in avoiding care was reaching a critical point. Stepping back, calming down, and taking the time to take care of herself made her much more likable. The care from her students I’m sure wrapped her up like a comfy blanket. Dr Mikano is seeing more of his environment and working on improving it which is a definite step away from tunnel visioned obsession with a body puzzle he is trying to fix. He is recognizing that he is a better doctor if he can understand the environment and mindset of who he is treating. By taking in the family circumstances as applicable, he can put more parties at ease dealing with health conditions and getting to the root cause of the trouble. In this episode her trial of uncertainty helped her better understand and look after her troubled student trying to fit in. Again, I cannot praise enough how wonderful these young actors are. They really work well together and the cast makes this drama enjoyable and thoughtful.

Hurts from the past

This episode flashes back to the case that caused Mikano to have to leave the hospital. He needed to learn empathy. I like that he wants to work on all the body rather than specialize. But he still treats it as a puzzle or machine to work or be fixed in specific ways. He is a genius with that. But where he falls flat as a physician is understanding the soul and spirit and how that relates to understanding the mindset and healing both body and mind. His perspective is being broadened and his heart is growing through these children that are letting him see their true selves that even family and teachers don’t always see or recognize. He is being let into their inner circle because in many ways he is more of a child than they are in how to communicate and understand feelings. I think this is their way of repaying him for addressing their physical needs and treating the cause not just bandaging the symptoms. This is his gift as a physician. He wants to root out what is causing the pain or affliction and truly help them heal. The dad wanting to participate in bandaging his daughter’s wounds that he helped cause is very symbolic of their mutual healing and better understanding of each other. And her conversation with her mom lets both of them know she is doing fine where she is and will learn to be happy with her circumstances even if her mom lives elsewhere. This was a powerful episode in learning how to listen to mindset and body symptoms as a unit. True healing takes place when mind and body can be at peace and rest. He is learning how to listen and feel while still keeping his brain in tune with the afflictions he sees on / in their bodies.

School outing

One of the 6th graders is a quiet girl that feels like an outsider. She has behavioral issues and when she gets overly upset she gets in a destructive mode that can get turned in items or even her person. After destroying a decoration the boy who caught her in the act is blamed for doing it. He is usually the impulsive troublemaker that finds everything not supposed to do to be exciting. He revealed something sad when he said he used that to keep the hurt away. So while he reacts differently, both of these children are acquainted with great pain. The school has an on site camping trip, for the students and she is fearful that the boy will tell on her and pushes him in a river. He is the first to notice that something else is going on and tries to help her find a different way to ease her anger. This gets both of them in trouble but also develops a budding friendship between them. When she gets home from the trip she finds her mom’s clothes gone and her dad has no clue when she will be back. Dr Mikano is the first to discover that the girl cuts when upset so when she doesn’t show up to school he goes to her house to be sure she’s ok. She doesn’t let him in but he stays close trying to get her to tell him her story. The child actors are phenomenal in this drama. They are totally believable in whatever scenario they are in. For as annoying as the doctor is supposed to be, I find the well meaning teacher the most aggravating. I want to cover my ears like Mikano does. 😂 I don’t fast forward because every once in a while she has a valid point. She just needs to be more succinct. 😝

Nao’s adventure

Nao gets to take a walk with his big sis and ends up at the school to use bathroom. There he exits and finds himself with three pranksters from 6th grade class. They tell spooky stories and lets him explore several classrooms. Dr Makino and Kei have a harder time finding him because they hide and keep him quiet to not get into trouble. Nao was much more animated the next day but neither child told their parents why. When Kei tries to talk to her mom about letting him get out more she is soundly slapped. Guilt and tunnel vision can make parents in particular make stupid choices. The healthy or least troublesome child is often ignored so extra attention can be given to the other. Kei was causing trouble because she wanted Dr Makino to be her brother’s main doctor again. That cleared up the who and why but also let Dr Makino tell her that if she had succeeded, he definitely would not be back to the hospital. Kei doesn’t go home after school and is finally found waiting in school infirmary. There the family, teacher and doctor all have a frank conversation about Nao’s condition. The mother starts to rant about Kei and the doc shuts her down and pivots it. He subtly lets her know that releasing her hovering to let him grow and go to school can give her some much needed downtime to just watch him enjoy playing. Her reaction to daughter is a beginning because she recognizes it cost her and daughter both pain. While it may seem too small of a step, she is finally seeing Kei as her own person. This will begin a healing path for them if mother can shift her focus to include a bigger parameter for Nao’s caregivers. It remains to be seen if she can handle that, but for her children’s sakes I hope so. The actors do a superb job of making you feel the situation from all their perspectives. It was very well done and the story is nicely paced filling in all the gaps as it goes. I like Dr Makino’s reaction to the teacher and he is a good lesson for her.🤣 children respect authority and strength of will and character.Dr Makino has that in spades. He just needs to learn to sugarcoat his speech more for the grownups.
