That's my entire point? That the satire does NOT work because they themselves are forgetting the part about it being a satire and turning it into a stereotypical drama? This really isn't about how I "want" the FL to act or "want" the ML to be. But that the show just isn't as fresh or unique everyone makes it out to be, shame cause I did enjoy the initial few eps despite it being a rehash of so many other similar dramas.

My entire point was completely different. No where in my comment did I judge her or anyone's morality. I actually scoffed at the little bit of morality the show did try to show. She can also try to kill him all she wants, doesn't matter. same for the ML Or the others. my problem isn't the act but that the logic behind it fails and makes the show pretty trite. pretty wash and repeat nonsense. You call her falling for the masked version iconic, I just rolled my eyes cause there we go, another misunderstanding trope ticked and loaded.
As for me continuing the show, yeah after I wrote the comment I thought "eh. I don't think I care enough anymore to continue it despite it all" so maybe I will drop. but on the other hand, I have NOTHING else to watch so maybe I will continue regardless. Yes, I WILL miss stuff while FFing. That's the entire point. If I cared enough, I wouldn't.
Paused at Ep 7 back when it was still airing, going to continue now that it is over to see if the show can prove me wrong:
The FL. Yes yes, I know. Everyone has been saying it and you guys are tired. But hear me out. My issue is with the logic of the show when it comes to the FL. Her wanting to avoid the ML I totally get. It was all good. But in ep 7, she all of a sudden doesn't want to avoid him.....she wants to actively go AGAINST him. There is a difference between the two. The former is completely fine, but the latter is where the logic of the show fails and therefore my immersion.
This show is supposed to be meta. That's the entire schtick of this show. The FL is a "real world" girl who gets transported into silly, fictional, over the top script that follows "real world" rules, aka stuff the FL is very much familiar with. Before Ep 7, she wanted to be a passive character in the story so that she gets to live her life in peace. Perfect. So she tried to avoid the ML and then strike up an alliance so that he stops paying so much attention to her. Right answer. Because you see, the opposite of being in the spotlight is fading to the background, becoming a side or an extra character. Not wanting to go through the original FL's pain and not really into this type of ML? Also perfect.
But in ep 7, all of a sudden, without any pre-emption, the FL is trying to ACTIVELY go against the ML. That's a strong stance. That's not out of the spotlight, that is her putting herself IN the spotlight. As such, there are several things that instantly go wrong here:
1) This turns it into yet another IHATEHIM stereotypical show that we have all been through a million times before. And it is not even done properly so it feels like the writers just used the setup as gimmick and forgot all about it. Come on, show. I was just starting to have fun.
2) The FL's own logic. She is supposed to be an actress from the real world. Even without knowing the script, does she really think that a romance melodrama (especially one that is clearly a "dog food" show as the chinese would say) would have an ML that EEEEVIL right down to his core and remains that way throughout the show? And that such a role would be picked by a Popular Idol Male Actor? REALLY GIRL? REEEEALLY? Come ON! Be for real right now. We all know what the entire purpose of MLs in such shows are - boost popularity by becoming every woman's dream man. This is like the most basic thing ever about the industry.
3) This is a script. She knows it is a script. Huge, important events in the story HAVE to happen, especially when it comes to the ML's political journey because there is a point that he needs to reach to by the end of the show for the finale to happen. That's a hard rule. She can hardly change smaller moments that pertain to herself and her romantic scenes. So tell me why she thinks that actively planning against the ML's grand political schemes and thwarting them is achievable. How does this make sense? Not to mention, she actually throws out a "so many people will be hurt"! Since when the heck were you supposed to care?! This is about morality now?! Great, the goody two shoes FL.
4) She has already commented on the fact that things outside of the script have been happening with the motives for in-script scenes changing. She also knows that the ML too has been feeling the force of the scriptwriter. But she conveniently forgot all of those.
5) Again, she knows this is a script. Hard rule of a script? The ML and FL CANNOT DIE BEFORE THE LAST EPISODE OF THE SHOW, BEFORE THE DAMN FINALE. THAT'S THE ENTIRE REASON WHY SHE RESTARTS EVERY TIME SHE DIES AND WHY THE ML HAS TO COME SAVE HER EVERY TIME SHE IS IN DANGER. SHE LITERALLY CANNOT DIE. SHE HAS SEEN IT HERSELF. So what the heck is all this about wanting to escape the ML wanting to kill her? He CANNOT. But yeah, conveniently forgot all about that.
6) The main thing the FL needs to do is not fall in love if she just wants to save herself. The entire reason why the original FL had such a hard time, which is true for all stories, is because she fell for the ML and suffered emotional pain. So the easiest answer to this whole thing? Don't fall in love. So what if he sleeps with her sister, who the heck cares if you don't love him and she isn't your sister anyways. Just mind your own damn business. But yeah, can't have any of that cause the writers of the show can't think of anything original to create conflict. So we are back to stupid misunderstandings-caused IHATEHIM.
So, ep 7 made me roll my eyes. Came to this page when I was still on Ep 7 and everyone else was on ep 22 to see if my hunch was correct. And seeing everyone's frustration over the same thing, but magnified, I knew I was right. Alas. But I can watch it now with my finger ready on the skip button so that I don't have to sit through stupidity :)
1) How the HECK did the most boring guy get picked to join Single's Inferno by the girls. How the heck is their taste so bad?! I mourn for what could have been if Seongbo had been chosen. He was natural and extroverted AND knew how to flirt. He could have stirred the pot. But no.....
2) Sian got to me with her "woe is me I have too many guys after me" act this time. Girl, you only like one person and are keeping the others around as backup choices so you don't come out as a loser at the end while also ensuring your screentime. Stop trying to sugarcoat it.
3) I am happy that someone like Dongho finally got some drama and screentime. Thank you, Haerin.
4) As someone who had wanted to see Theo and Jiyeon together from the start, I have no hope left anymore, not even for a proper date :')
5) Not Junseo trying his best to look "different" for 4 eps but then quickly doing a hard swerve left onto the basic road over the bare minimum LMAO. And now he suddenly has no problems chasing and neither does he care about the girl being "confused". Talked big this entire time about wanting a "no-filter" girl but can't dare to even look at Haerin twice. Please.
6) I am not a fan of Jeongsu but I am genuinely confused as to why people thought he was trying to lie in that conversation with Sian. It was pretty clear to me that he was joking to comfort her.

I had some hope at the start but after the latest eps, nothing. Too little time left and Theo is too into Sian SIGH. I was doubly disappointed because the above comment made it seem like a big twist was about to happen and I gritted my teeth through the eps for it.....only for it to not happen TT_TT Plus, when they became a team for the pool game they were standing SO far apart and Theo looked dead inside. Such wasted opportunity.
Ok I am just 4 mins into ep 5 and have to say, Jiyeon describing her ideal type is so much like Theo PLEASE give them a chance to have a proper date TT_TT someone wake that guy the f up TT_TT
Just binged the first 4 eps - from the start I had been hoping for something between Jiyeon and Theo and/or Junseo, best case scenario a love triangle, cause they stand out the most and would be like watching a fun little top cheerleader x two popular guys rom-com. So I cheered when she said she was curious about those two exact guys. But go figure, this is Korea. It isn't only about the tan skin but they are also intimidated by anyone showing even an inch of a personality. Junseo, for all his talk about wanting someone authentic, is too intimidated by her to give her a legit chance. And Theo is just dumb. Dude, you have known your girl for a day and you chose her when you hadn't even seen everyone. It's not fate! Calm down! Give everyone a chance! Like my ghosh, did Theo even look at Jiyeon at the campfire and try to strike up a conversation despite her being RIGHT NEXT TO HIM?! Congratulations to Tehwan for having eyes but that's the bare minimum and I still don't like him, even as a consolation prize. So yeah, I am hoping Theo or Junseo wake the hell up soon and make it interesting.
No particular thoughts on anyone else other than hoping that Sian and Jeongsu stick with each other, not cause I ship them or anything but because Sian is the typical cookie cut girl that ALLLL the men flock for in every damn season of every damn korean dating show ever so I hope she is kept occupied by Jeongsu so we can move on and see something fun with the other contestants. Besides, they do really suit each other and have chemistry. But alas, Jeongsu had to go ruin it all. You had ONE job dude asdfghjkl.
My was Youjin a disaster in the campfire section, both during and after, and came across as a pick me girl. Do not blame anyone for losing interest in her. She looks like she could be a mess.
I am on the last episode, have yet to see the ending, but i am surprised nobody is talking about how they redeemed THE PHYSICALLY AND VERBALLY ABUSIVE PSYCHOPATH OF A MOTHER OMG @#₹_&-+()/ WTF IS WRONG WITH ASIAN DRAMAS

I made a post about it on the feeds and yeah that ending absolutely sucked. About the reincarnation, they showed one of XY's friends from her days as Xiaoliu in Qingshui Town reincarnated in that last scene with CX & AN so I am wondering if that means that the reincarnation cycle is starting. Then maybe XL too one day.........but yeah it is reaching. It could also just mean that XY may have come back to Qingshui Town to live with the reincarnations. Or it could mean nothing. SIGH.
As someone who read the book twice amd re-watched S1 uncountable times, I don't think I'm brave enough to wait…
I actually made a post about this exact thing yesterday. I really want XY to find out about everything at the end, after he dies. Yes, it will hurt. But acknowledging the pain and overcoming it is the way to true happiness. If living in la la land was the answer then XY had already been doing it, running away from her pain, from the start. Why did we have to watch 60+ eps just to see her end up exactly where she had begun? Not to mention, not knowing about any of it is not even her own decision but someone else's. Forgivable when XL was still alive cause seeing her stumble would also make him stumble etc etc etc. But in death, all bets are off the table. I just don't see how this is good writing for a character whose entire journey was/should have been about becoming emotionally stronger. How am I supposed to root for her when the show doesn't even let her tackle her issues? Besides, thinking that the people she cares about will never love her back is her entire ish. So how does thinking that XL, the one she loves, only ever used her help her in her path to being happy? If anything, that should only further traumatize her. Finding out that the one she cared about also loved her, and loved her this much, should instead be what heals her. Anyways, this thing at the end isn't really good writing and I hope it changes. It just comes across as a dog's blood ending, as the chinese love to say. Only for the sake of drama. But I don't have much faith in the writer so I am not holding out too much hope.
Have been seeing this discussion everywhere so just want to throw my two cents in - unlike the popular opinion of 3rd guy being the best, it is actually the 4th guy I like best and who I think Rose can finally have a lasting, proper, mature relationship with where both sides are level-headed and equal in emotional involvement. Of course, thrown in with good ol' flirting and passion. 4th guy is the only one out of them all who doesn't get consumed by Rose the moment he lays eyes on her LMAO. Very natural tempo, on the low as is appropriate for a crush and rising interest. They actually had time to connect without hormones blinding them. I have no doubt that they will date after his 1 year study period is over. And unlike what I had initially expected from this arc, they actually did have chemistry. Too bad we didn't get to see the after in the special episode. Oh well.
As for the drama itself.......starts out with a bang but is ultimately pointless. Shame.
