Her MIL actually treated her decently after marriage and they got along very well when XY knew how to win her…
Yeah but... how much screentime do I have still suffer from the monster in law? That's my question. It's 3 episodes in, and we've spent more time with her Mama from Hell than with her husband to be. I just want to know in which episode we spent MOST of the time without the monster in law.

QUESTION:

Until which episode is Xu Yan tortured by her monster in law? I'm on episode 3 and I'm starting to wonder if the FL is marrying her Mister Right or her mother...

I don't think any man is worth all that hassle, but again I come from a "normal" family I guess my sense of self-worth is probably higher. Truly heartbreaking to see such a hardworking girl being trampled on by literally everyone just because of her modest background.

I don't really understand what pride there is to take in being born with a diamond spoon in one's mouth. You never worked for anything, everything's been served to you on a sliver plater. Seems to me all these efforts to make the FL feel like sh** is simply because they all know they don't deserve their privileges and they're projecting their own anxieties.

The dubbing from this short is actually different from the one in the drama. I watched it immediately after finishing the drama so Xue Fangfei and Duke Su sounded pretty weird. Apart from that... well. it feels like they're applying some Band-Aid to the wound opened by the last 10 minutes of the drama... which I can't forgive and have decided to forever forget.

Instead of this short... I'd rather they remove the useless butchery of the last 10 minutes. It didn't ruin the show for me, but it sure did leave a very bitter aftertaste that is gonna take a while to forget.

As for this short... Well like most extra short episodes I've seen from every C dramas so far, it feels forced and useless, and not at all on par with the masterpiece it was derived from. It's pure fanservice... but not necessarily the best kind.

Still better than nothing I guess.

Well... One of the most amazing show I've seen for the past few years... ALBEIT FOR the last 10 minutes. It didn't ruin the show but it did leave a very BITTER aftertaste. Very Chinese that. As if there weren't enough tragic stories in this drama but whatev'.

I don't know if I'll ever rewatch this though... I just feel very emotionally drained after watching this, I definitely need something VERY sweet to counterbalance. On one side, it's a very satisfying ending ( if you Men in Black yourself the last 10 minutes) on the other, emotionally and plot wise, it was so many things all the time that I'm just left very tired.

It took almost two months to finish because I needed to pause regularly the show. I couldn't bear the intensity. I don't know if I have in me to re-experience all of that one more time... Maybe in 10 years, who knows?

Can't help but rewatch repeatedly the last scene of episode 6... My Gowd!
This is why good direction and cinematography always beats all these makeout session in Western shows.

They showed SO LITTLE, and yet my heart was beating like crazy...
You could feel Sasin's heart beating like a drum, louder than the music.
I NEED NEXT WEEK NOW!

I just love thi serie, and love the 3 main characters…. the only thing that I don’t like is the grandmother,Idk…
Lol, so true ^^ But if you check her page, she's actually 70 years old. This being said my father is older and my mom is close to that age as well, and they both don't speak like that. This actress acts like she's 100 or something... But she doesn't have that many scenes so it doesn't bother me much.

Ok not gonna do any spoiler for the last scene... But it was intense, WATCH IT!

Also I WAS RIGHT, I KNEW IT... regarding a certain question raised further below.

And finally... The preview is not angst free... But it's not all that dark... Looking forward to next week. The wait is gonna be excruciatingly long.

So because Sasin NEEDS to see Saen I guess, he followed both families to a resort and took Saen out of his room for a little excursion, at night, on a small boat... Because Why not?
Of course the boat's engine broke down in a middle of a thunderstorm, so they had to abandon ship and swim back to the beach... Of course there's an ad cut for the BEST scene coming but I disgress.

Ok... Pin is starting to suspect her cousin and fiancé's feelings for each other... She's not 100% sure of course... But basically she's suspecting... She's just acting like she's totally oblivious to their feelings for each other... Which is interesting given both are still dancing around each other without daring to admit their mutual feelings.

So Basically both fathers are making sure Sasin and Saen don't spend time together. Also Pin is aware that Saen wants to stop the marriage from happening, but she tells him she understands... Might be because they haven't spent enough time together but she's sure he'll come to like her as she does after a while ( basically what she told Sasin in episode 5)... So anyway, all of that is happening when both families have gone to a resort together - without Sasin of course.

BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT Of course Sasin came secretly.

Really heartbreaking episode so far but I've got to say, it's "nice" to see Sasin being in pain for how Saen is being treated. FINALLY, he starts to understand how much pressure Saen has been under.

OH MY!
Saen's father just let the cat out of the bag! It's in a roundabout way but well, Sasin knows that Saen is gay now. Well, I think he's acting like he didn't understand but he probably knows deep down the meaning of Saen's father's words.

The ad cuts make this live watch pretty stressful 😱

Oh my God... This is such a heartbreaking scene... Poor rabbit needs a hug... The father literally spilling his son's secrets in front of the man he fell in love with... Truly awful...

I might not survive this episode 😭

Err did you read what I wrote? I'm not saying Chinese actors. I'm saying Chinese people in general. If you are an actor in Asia, you're first requirement is basically looking good and having a pointed nose is already a +.

My take is, based on Asian standards of beauty, the ML has already all the basic characteristics of what is considered good-looking in Asia and is as such already considered part of a small Chinese minority.

Meaning by that the above comment about the look of the actor is nitpicking at best but to each one their own.

Well thank you for the news... I'm just glad to know she'll come back to film at some point. She's one of the few Chinese actresses who really manages to be cute without being cringe. I've got so many drama of hers I still want to watch so hopefully by the time I get to the end of my list, she'll have bounced back... A year or two out of the filming industry is honestly no big deal.

I get this is an adaptation, but I'm starting to have an issue with all the adaptations of her books. 50% from…
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

Wang Xing Yue is tall, has an oval face and a pointed nose which is unlike 90% of Chinese people who tend to have square jaws, flat noses and a smaller build.
In that respect, he's already among a certain minority. Personally, I don't particularly find him attractive but he's good looking enough to embody his role well. While "unparalleled beauty" sure doesn't fit the description, he played his role to perfection which is the most important part.

Also, I think it has a lot to do with the haircut. Some actors have a face that just go well with everything regardless of the genre - modern or costume - but Xing Yue looks better with a modern look in my opinion. I feel the same about other actors such as Yang Yang for instance. Modern look looks great, Costume... Not bad, but not as good.

As for the rest of the comment... Well I personally didn't read the book before watching the drama... Most of the time people are disappointed with the adaptation which is why whenever I see an adaptation about to come out of a novel I'm interested in but haven't yet read... I wait to watch the drama first AND THEN read the book.

It's easier to avoid disappointments that way. If you hadn't read the novel, I'm sure you would have loved this drama as much as everybody else... Or maybe not lol. I've checked your ratings for The Double and I find it pretty harsh but I'm also currently watching The King's Avatar and will definitely not rate that one with a rating as high as yours (or high for that matter... I'm considering something between a 6 and a 7.5 at present but we'll see once I've finished it) so our taste don't align.

It's the first REALLY negative opinion I've seen for that series which I personally find unfair... BUT diversity in opinions is necessary for future potential viewers so it's okay ^^

anyone find Sasin annoying and he constantly overreacts and crosses boundaries for no reason ?
Nah. Well... Yes... But we all know why he's acting like that... Also you'll see he's turning a new leaf in episode 5 so... you won't have lots of occasion to get really annoyed with him in the future 😆

PEARLPEAK FIXED PAIR GUYSS WE WONNN !!One31 usually don't do fixed pairs besides daouoffroad, (and JamFilm before…
I don't care about fixed pairing since it can be damaging for actors' careers to always act with the same partner. This being said, I would definitely tune in for another BL drama from One 31 if these two are together again. I just don't want them to stick with BL shows. This doesn't seem to be One 31's policy though. From what I've seen, most of their big names still mostly act in straight shows with the occasional BLs on the side (see Film or Tor for instance) which is great.

I've been SO DISAPOINTED with most BLs for the past 3 years, and that's the only channel that really bothers to create unique plots that put emphasis on a good story and not empty fanservice.

Okay guys,i feel like itll be episode 6 BUT! The kiss might get interrupted tho 😬
I'm now 100% sure it's what I wrote above. Either the end of episode 6 OR the beginning of episode 7 depending on One 31's level of cruelty towards fans.

Small Spoiler
According to the few tidbits I've understood, Sasin is FINALLY working with Saenkaew to get rid of this marriage. There's a couple of scenes in episode 5 that hints at it and there's a scene in the preview where he says he might have found a solution for Saen to not get married with Pin. Of course, he's pretending he's doing all of that because he doesn't want his lovely cousin to marry with somebody who doesn't love him... BUT we all know WHY he's so involved in that marriage drama.

Also, at the concert lounge, as Saen and Sasin are talking, Sasin says that he totally understands why Pin fell in love with Saen and is bent to marry him since he's handsome, polite, gentle, comes from a great family, intelligent...

Saen tells Sasin that if he REALLY knew him, he probably would end up hating him... to which Sasin replies that Saen is too pessimistic, he should just tell him what type of person he is, maybe, if he REALLY knew him... he might like him... ensues an awkward silence (I love you both guys, just CONFESS ALREADY).

Also the preview for episode 6 has killed me. I might just give up working tomorrow when it airs instead of pretending I care about my work.
