"If words can kill" is how I'd like to describe this show. The majority of the show is just the main character using his words to manipulate the chess pieces (the people) to his advantage. As the show goes on, it progressively becomes more difficult for the main character to walk away unscathed. But to watch him patiently waiting, taking his time to find his enemy's weakness before going in for that killing blow is just so incredibly satisfying to see.

I love that the characters are all mature -- they stick to the path that they choose with conviction (even if it means their end). Each of the characters have their own roles to play, and they do it well. They are all intelligent, capable, and can think on their own when the situation calls for it -- which speaks volumes when they end up falling for Yun Xiang's traps.

If you plan on watching this show for romance, I would say to lower your expectations as it really takes a back seat compared to everything else. The show is not flashy, and the story takes time to unfold. It is clearly aimed at an older crowd, but I still highly recommend it since the story is so damn good.

This show had such good actors and good writing. But I want to comment on the many beautiful scenic shots. Especially the Liansheng House! The staff is clearly confident in their abilities since they are able to make even the rainy or night shots look striking. There are plenty of scenes where only a few lanterns are used, relying on shadows to frame the characters, making everything look so incredibly gorgeous!

Title Story of Kunning Palace Spoiler
My favorite side couple was Lv Xian and You Fangyin. They were so incredibly adorable. I really wish that she lived. I wanted them to live happily ever after. :\

Other than that, it's a wonderful story. I love how calculating both Jiang Xuening and Xie Wei are. It was interesting to watch their plans unfold. I think their past really built up their personalities in an understandable way. For example, Xie Wei reminds me of a stray animal. I don't mean insult by this, by the way. Stray animals don't know when their next meal will come, so they are overprotective of their food. Xie Wei is overprotective of people and things that he trusts and cares for. Despite being so obsessive and crazy, there are many times that he help Jiang Xuening and treat her with care. It is not the type of romance I like but I find this take on love quite interesting to watch. (But the couple that still won my heart at the end of the day is still Lv Xian and You Fangyin.)

Also, I know it's not bromance, but I enjoyed the relationship between Xie Wei, Jian Shu, Dao Qin, Lv Xian, and the substitute Dingfei. (RIP Xiao Bao.) Their dynamic was fun to watch. You can really tell that they all respect Xie Wei but is comfortable enough around him to goof around. Their personalities really shine when they are together.

7.9 hmmm is this worth watching? why the ratings low
I was looking forward to the show. I like the cast and I love mystery. Unfortunately, I think the story didn't hit me as much as I thought it would. It was still a fun ride, I laughed and cried a few times. I would still recommend giving the show a chance so you can form your own opinion.
For example: there are shows on this website that are rated 8.5 to 9.0 that didn't manage to catch my attention. So it depends on your taste.

There's so much charm in the way he acts. He gives his characters so much depth: from boyish charm, to proud and regal, to mischievous, to calm and quiet. He is incredible! I have favorite male actors, but he is definitely the TOP on my list.

Vicky has just posted online defending and praising her. I think it really helped that CX took the criticism and…
100%. I've heard way too many stories of women in China getting blamed for literally everything. It's really insane that a woman gets blamed for defending herself. No matter which gender people are, I do not idolize actors as someone who can "do no wrong", but they're still people who deserve respect and be treated well. Unfortunately, things like this won't change overnight because it's deeply ingrained into the culture of one of the oldest countries on earth.

PSA: Remember to watch the "Special" episode right after episode 26. It will provide the necessary closure -- at least it did for me. (I don't know why this webpage doesn't include the link to the "Special" episode though.)

You know when you have so much good things to say, but it's hard to put it into words? That's how I feel about Romance on the Farm. So I'll keep it short. This whole show is damn amazing with a group full of amazing actors. The show is beautiful, the colors are rich, how each scene is composed is wonderfully done. (Much props to the director here!) The family can get annoying, but it wasn't enough to stop me from enjoying the whole show. :) The romance is mature, it has trust, and isn't always in your face. (And that You Heng and Shen Nuo have mutual respect for each other.)

P.S. (This is the second drama from Zeng Shun Xi that completely broke me -- in a good way. The other being Mysterious Lotus Casebook.) Also, I love Tian Xi Wei's and Chang Long's acting. They're becoming one of my favorites!

"Delicate" and "beautiful" would be the words I use to describe this show.
From the music, the gentle drips of rain, the food, and the scenic views of the opening of this drama to the gentle romance between Yin Zheng and Li Wei. I love that the romance starts off the show like a seed being planted. Then it took a backseat in the middle of the show in order to let the two characters grow on their own: Li Wei learning the ways of the palace, becoming a leader, and an entrepreneur while Yin Zheng solidifies his confidence and power in court. Then, like a fully grown flower, the romance blooms in the third act. They're now husband and wife, a unit who can fully depend on one another.

I cried a lot in this show. It's beautiful but for so many different reasons: the friendship between the women, the bond between the brothers, the relationship between father and sons. The palace may look like a place of luxury from the outside. But on the inside, there are restrictions. The people in power have a duty to answer to their people. The emphasis that even the emperor is not free to do as he pleases. They work within very confined rules and regulations that normal people are not bound to. It was heartbreaking to see the imperial family work within their confinements, like how the emperor had to revoke the "prince" title to save Yin Qi's life.

I LOVE the emphasis on the women's relationships. The women are what drives this story forward. As the saying goes: "behind every great man is a strong woman". They are strong, ambitious, beautiful, graceful, loyal, sassy, and intelligent. They represent their respective cultures through food, hence why they became restaurant owners. They are written so incredibly well, each having their own sparkle of personalities. It was so refreshing to see them getting along in such a genuine and fun way.

Okay, I need to stop here, otherwise it'll become an essay! There is waaaaay too much that I can gush about this show. I started this show expecting just romance, but I LOVE that I was given sooo much more.

P.S. The acting, comedic timing, the writing, music, and filming is amazing. Hats off to the whole staff. Just WOW!
Also, Yin Zheng, please don't give Su Shen anymore vacation time. The man can't take it. He just wants to serve you and dote on you 24/7! xD

I love her acting style! She is pretty AND an amazing actor. I've only seen her in New Life Begins, Romance on the Farm, and Wrong Carriage Right Groom. Her characters are silly, energetic, and fun. (There are people who criticized her for acting "childish" but I completely disagree. There's a big difference.) She's expressive with her face and her body language. The wide range of emotions she shows through her characters makes them feel so convincing and real. And the way she subtly scrunches up her face and stutters when she cries in New Life Begins? I just teared up. She's so good!

I cannot wait to watch more of her shows!

There's a lot that I want to praise this show for doing, but I'll try to focus on just a few things. It's a hilarious romantic comedy with two couples that match each other's energy level and humor. Their relationships felt natural. The main couple is especially well written. They tease and cringe at each other's advances, they laugh at the other's flops, they trust in each other, and they support each other. Couples are not only romantically involved, but they are also close friends. The show did a great job at displaying why the duos work. The friendships were incredibly wholesome, especially between Zhou Chuan and Jiang Yu Cheng. Their dynamic really felt like they're siblings: they bicker, they argue, they sass each other, but they'll always support one another.

I truly believe that the actors had a lot of fun with this show. There are small things they do that really gave the characters more depth. If you want a feel good, relaxing, and wholesome time with a lot of laughing-out-loud moments, this show is worth the watch.

Lastly, I've never seen Ding Yu Xi's shows before. His acting style is very refreshing and expressive. I loved it a lot. I'll be looking into his other shows.

My expectations for this show were already high, but the show did a damn good job at hitting those expectations and then exceeded it. The comedic moments were well timed, the pacing was excellent, the sad moments were given the respect that it deserves. Amazing show. It has great acting and I adore the dynamic between all the characters. I highly recommend this show.

While I'm not the target audience for this show (since I'm a little older), I just want to drop my opinion here anyway. The start of the show is interesting, the snappy cinematography was fun, and the story beats reminds me of Western shows like Kick Ass or Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. However, the more I watch, the more I wished that Wang Ye was the main character. He is approachable yet mysterious, silly but hard to read or understand. His fights are beautifully choreographed. The phantasmagoria and the unique magic system that he (and Zhu Ge Qing) uses is so incredibly fascinating. I love the juxtaposition of him being a Taoist Monk that uses modern day things and is a rich kid. Chu Lan/Bao Bao duo was so goofy and fun, but I find myself wanting to know more about Wang Ye and what he can do instead.

First episode, I was like, "Dang, that's some hefty scowl he has." Three episodes later, "Okay, I kinda love it." xD It does help that he is reliable and reasonable, too.

This drama is truly exceptional and I highly recommend it. The casting was spot-on and the acting was superb,…
You summed it up perfectly. I didn't understand every bit of the show, but that was more on me than anything else. Despite that, the show was so good that I couldn't stop watching. The scenery, the acting, the camera cuts felt so natural. It was as if I'm watching history as it happens. Under the Microscope is a QUALITY show and it truly deserves more traction.
On Under the Skin Feb 14, 2024
Just finished and I loved it. The show wastes no time and just outright tosses you into the world. The plot was good, the actors were amazing, and the camera work was beautifully done. You can tell that the staff put in a lot of work making the drawing scenes feel seamless and natural. (Makes sense because of Shen Yi.) There are no static or boring scenes that feel flat or dragged out for too long. And the suspenseful scenes are engaging. For me, atmosphere is especially important for crime/mystery shows. It's not a high paced show or a flashy show. If you want to treat yourself to some nice mystery without it being too intense, Under The Skin is definitely worth the watch.

Unfortunately, I'm still new to the C-drama field. The only other show I've watched from him is My Journey To You. It's just that he has such a distinct artistic style that it is very clear and noticeable. I hope that helps you a little, hehe.
