Welcome to BT’s trainwreck watch, this is gonna be… errr? Fun? For everyone hoping episode 35 to be an improvement,…
I wasn't referring to Viki subs, lol. Back when they showed the pink and blue "talk to baby" speakers and some folks said it was foreshadowing the sex of the two babies (boy for Baby Real, girl for JM/HW baby), you said NO! - You were convinced that Baby Real was going to be a girl. I agreed - but also predicted said JM's baby would be the "eldest male grandchild" (or great-grandchild) - therefor the "heir" for that generation.
On Friday (Korea time), tvN held a kickoff for UC2 with introduction of the main cast members and their characters. It also included this "highlight" reel for the upcoming episodes:
I had trouble viewing until I used my VPN for South Korea. The funniest snippet (for me) was when Jeok Bong (Yoo In Soo) put his arm around Do Hana - bad idea.
As much as I like the 2nd leads, I don’t feel any connection to their characters at all. It’s hard to root…
Perhaps I hit the FF button too much, but does current Do Joon remember his past lives? (I assume that since we are centuries from the original "1st life" that Do Joon has many past lives). So. . . . does Do Joon remember??? (I really missed that and I tried to watch all of his scenes.) Or, is this simply something that the viewer suspects or knows based upon Ji Eum's memories.
The comic explains it better, although Cho-won it really was just love at first sight. Do-yun doesn't start really…
That "someone on Dramabeans" that I mentioned above? It was YOU vienibenmio. I tried to find the original post/comment the other day, but your name was not appearing on notifications. But today I found it. 🥰 Meanwhile, finally got through Ep. 10 and I still don't understand why Do Joon is looking at his phone and Cho won is walking around by herself - no flashbacks, not dialogue, no internal thoughts. This is one of the worst dramas I have ever watched and am glad it is almost over so the viewer can presumably get a 30 second reconciliation with the 2nd couple. Bleah.
In classic soap opera fashion, the character of Yeon Do has many personality traits that are reflected at different…
When I use the term "soap opera", I'm thinking in terms of the daily soap operas in the US and even some of the night time soaps (Dallas, Dynasty). A classic style was to write a character with sympathetic and negative personality traits. For instance, "Brooke" (I forget her last name) in Bold and Beautiful was a girl from a middle class upbringing, beautiful and did everything because she loved the main guy ("Ridge"). She lied, connived, schemed - but it was all "for love" and 1/2 the viewers supported her 100%. There used to be (maybe there still are) internet battles - and the writers/producers were happy because viewers kept coming back for more.
If the writers do a 180 on a character's personality, then that's a betrayal. In Ok is a good example - although there were a few hints that she was passionate about TK, the 180 was extreme and shocking.
Yeon Dope (stealing this from Olive4313) cannot cure this legally at this point. Every Korean watching this drama…
The writing for Joon ha is frustrating. - he makes statement ("come with me, Yeon do") but no explanation as to WHY he wants her and the baby to be with him. Based on my impression of the character, he's angry that he was lied to and perhaps (???) he is regretting that he rejected the baby initially (witness his purchase of a onesie). He is "essentially an orphan" and therefor has no knowledge of what it means to be a family - no aunts, uncles, siblings, etc. Others will say that it's all about ego
So - I think Writer-nim doesn't think it's important to explain why Joon Ha is doing this - the end game is the DNA test for whatever new plot/story arc will follow. Frustrating.
(I’m going to disregard the deceptive previews we’ve been getting lately and also the common wisdom that family…
In classic soap opera fashion, the character of Yeon Do has many personality traits that are reflected at different times. Depending upon the personality trait, the viewer is attracted (or repelled) by a particular scene or dialog. The viewer feels betrayed (such as with InOk) when the writer turns everything upside down with no warning (although, as I’ve posted for weeks, the small signs have been there all along w/InOk). In Yeon’s Do’s case, we have:
1. Loving, caring family woman who knows how to manage (I call it manipulate, but whatever) all around her. Even though she has shown herself to be indecisive at times w/r/t TK, the viewer believed she at least cared for him even if she had not given him her whole heart.
For the viewer who saw YD in that light – and loved her for it – the callous and cruel way she treated her family and TK are unbelievable, even if she had been wishy-washy in the past.
2. Intelligent, strong willed woman of courage who was clever enough to outsmart Se Jin and Granny Evil. This is the Yeon Do that I respected. And that lying little coward turned THAT upside down. Perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised – if she was willing to lie and deceive (marriage lie) for 5 months to family (her own and TK’s) well hell, what’s another string of lies and deceit to family and TK. Plus she’s dumb as a rock (Yeon Dope) to not figure out that the marriage registration would have solved everything. Although I realize her dead brain is required by the writers to string along the Joon Ha scheming, most viewers would like to see THAT story gone. I really hope there is more to the DNA story than simply “who’s the daddy”.
3. Mother-to-be that sacrifices for her child (noble idiocy). Viewers who like this personality trait (“she’s pregnant, so that explains everything”) – GOD ALMIGHTY, I cannot. . . . well, I just cannot write out my thoughts w/out hurting feelings of real people. But as a mom who went through a crisis pregnancy, although I was willing to sacrifice for the babies inside of me, I would never, ever have dreamed of using that as an excuse to hurt others. I would have used my brain and figured out a better solution.
That’s my answer. Depending on how you viewed Yeon Do for the 1st two-thirds of the drama, you either hate her or love her for what she did. And: Writer-nim knows this and understands this. It's CLASSIC soap opera.
Meanwhile I think she and TK will reunite with each other – and with their families - NLT Ep. Forty-ish and most viewers won’t care how it happens provided it does happen.
Yeon Dope (stealing this from Olive4313) cannot cure this legally at this point. Every Korean watching this drama…
If JH is the bio dad, then I believe that in Korea, it would be almost impossible for TK to legally adopt unless JH relinquished all parental rights. Pretty standard across the world.
This would be a non-issue if they had been legally married (registered).
(Since bloomingtide mentioned a rumor of them being a legal couple to keep JH at bay) What if: YD is the one who…
Yeon Dope (stealing this from Olive4313) cannot cure this legally at this point. Every Korean watching this drama knows the legal requirements because registering (especially if it is a "family" register maintained at the local government office) is a big deal because it is a requirement for government benefits, including schooling and medical.
In Korea, when a baby is born, it is up to the mother to register the birth with the local government. If she is married (and they were not), she can only put her husband's name in the blank for the father. It is now too late.
She could have put JH's name, but of course she wasn't about to do that.
JH could easily demand the DNA test regardless of the marriage status, but if they were married the courts would tell him to walk away - they would not grant him even visitation rights. But since they didn't register, then although they won't grant custody to him, they might grant visitation. Joint custody in Korea is rare, even among divorced couples.
If YD/TK had registered their marriage and she had identified TK as the father - there would be no issue. But they didn't register their marriage and that's why we will have a 50 episode drama instead of 30 episodes. 🤣🤣🤣
If you read comments from a day ago, a lot of people are hoping for that result, but writers would have to re-write history a bit (based on statements by Uncle to Bong Nim) in order to make this true.
Yeondoo: I will never leave you, Taekyung. I will stay by your side. Also Yeondoo: https://shorturl.at/bnNVZ🙃🙃🙃
Haha, I didn't watch Ep. 34 until late Monday night (a full 24 hours after release on Viki) and I didn't watch much of the beach scenes in 33. But I had read all of the comments - and especially noted how your thoughts had evolved over the 24 hour period. But nothing prepared me for the FURY that I felt at watching Yeon Do prepare in advance for hurting not only TK but also her entire family that were trying to support her.
Yes, LIAR, LIAR, LIAR is what comes to my mind as well.
I'm grateful I never cared much about the character but I feel bad for those that did.
This was on my watchlist because of Min Hyun (Aos), but I already know I will have 2nd lead syndrome because Seo Ji Hoon is a terrific actor and deserves to get the girl for once. Plus, I hate triangles. I think I won't be in a hurry to watch this every week upon release.
I have had another thought in support of the theory that yd's mother is strawberry. Strawberry May refer to a…
Jay was identified as the “5th Only Son" in his family. Since adoption is not celebrated or encourage in Korea (especialy 25 years ago) , it is highly unlikely that Jay is adopted.
I rewatched again (on Viki) and JM said: "Go home and watch Olive. He'll flip on his own any day now. So don't get distracted and watch him carefully."
Then I switched to Japanese subs and translated - like Korean, they didn't recognize gender.
We don't even have a name yet for Baby Olive which would perhaps help in identifying gender. Since I predicted Olive would be the eldest male heir, I'm sticking with it until unequivocally told differently. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
That's my "win".

"I can't help but think that was the future she wanted for herself, "
Reading your thoughts, you are right - this is the future she wanted: to bring up HER baby all by herself. Selfish.

Guess I will have to wait for "King of Saju" for Ji Hoon to shine as the Male Lead.
