Originally I was going to wait for this to end before binge watching it….... BUT……I ended up watching some clips where istg one of the ML was giving pretty intense jealous glares….BL or bromance or whatever, I caved in right then….🤣🤣🤣
I haven’t watched the prequel as I tend to avoid the historical genre and tragedies and it seems to be both, but even as a stand alone I loved this drama. It had such a mature, calm and elegant vibe going for it that watching it felt almost soothing to me. The emotional part in the final leg of the drama was very well done. This had been on my iqiyi watchlist from a long time. I don’t know why I kept postponing watching this. But now that I have, all I can say is I was an idiot:) Both Bail Lu and Ren Jia Lun did an amazing job. I could feel their love for each other in every frame even without explicit skinship. How they went from being awkward to so comfortable with each other was very well depicted especially the ML who was already an introvert to start with.
Loved the many supporting characters like Uncle Lin, Lin Fei, Yuanyuan and Zhousheng Ren. I was really looking forward to more scenes of the teenage brother. His almost idol worship of his eldest cousin brother and sister in law was adorable. The only character that didn’t gel with me was the terminally ill sister, Wenxing. She was supposedly this Mary Sue character but somehow irritated me every time she came on screen!
The irony of having a mouthwash and spray mouth freshener PPL every 5 minutes and not even a single kiss…🤣🤣 Jokes apart, chinese bromance or whatever, the story was lovely and heartwarming. An enjoyable watch with good looking and more importantly, better actors.
Excited to see Zhou Yi Ran in a bad boy role but I wish they could have cast someone better for the role of FL. At first I didn't notice because of the misleading photo but then I realized she's the FL from Binary Love...Bad choice for sure.
The ratings are on a slow rise. Not bad. Except for the characterization of 2 female leads and abysmal work place dynamics/professionalism, this drama is pretty good.
Time pass drama with really good looking, well dressed leads. ML was impressive, FL so-so. Honestly, even I found her weird eye makeup distracting. Story looked like it was taken out of a generic manhua but it was executed well enough for a web drama. I have seen worse web dramas for sure. Surely they had better child artists though? There were 3 of them and none looked like they could be genetically connected to the ML or FL tbh.
Going to keep a look out for the ML’s future projects. His smile is really attractive and acting wasn’t bad. Saw his bio and he was a support character in Lighter & Princess? I seriously can’t remember!

It’d be pretty hypocritical of me to rate a show so high and then hate on it just because it has got some unstable fans. I just get really pissed when someone has opinions about a subjective matter like what I should like better. Like it’s any of their business. It all started just because I said in a post that I rated wifty 9.5 and HL 9. It was purely a subjective opinion. It wasn’t even as if I gave wifty perfect 10 and rated HL as 1. Both shows have their little flaws and I liked both very much. So I went purely on the basis that while they were airing together I looked forward to wifty more. That triggered heck a lot ppl here. That toxicity sure riles me up. The only c drama to ever get a perfect score from me was the sports drama “The prince of tennis”…That is clearly not everyone’s cup of tea! How would you feel if I start forcing and morally hijacking ppl to like TPOT above everything else? Not right is it? That’s what is happening here “Oh, you don’t like HL over everything else, then you are a hater”! Yeah, sure made me irritated.
