I do think from the little I have seen - that being a Chinese Idol, they are forever treading a fine wire and one small wrong move and that is it. So much pressure. These are really young people - with little experience, who will make mistakes as they are only human. I used to think, they get paid lots so it’s part of the job, but I don’t think any amount of money makes up for living imprisoned in a glass bowl that can crack due to the slightest flaw.

The stars themselves?! So to drum up hate for themselves so people pity them? Wouldn’t it be nicer to just pay people to support the show and boost ratings instead of spreading hate and ruining people’s lives? I suppose “hate” evokes more emotion like the recent Black Mirror episode. So sad. I do fear for the mental headspace of these young stars.

Gosh - no I had never heard of the Internet water army - I can understand paid haters in politics, but in the entertainment industry? It’s an odd concept. Fans protecting their own idol and starting fan wars I understand - but don’t think these leads are at war with any other idols?
I only started watching c-dramas in 2020 thanks to a google algorithm! And only recently joined these chat forums as I got a bit obsessed with DYX 😅 and also found his fans/appreciators really positive and friendly 🤗

You summed it up exactly re XY! And if you compare that fact that she initially was just really scared of him, and wanted rid of him, but fell in love with him anyway, it’s really great character growth. Don’t know what the future has in store for us, but really dislike the tropes, where the FL misunderstands ML despite everything they have been through - she seems very sure of herself here!

Totally agree here - I didn't find eps 2-12 too draggy, but editing wise it threw as it is so odd, I was watching it mainly for DYX, but it does improve, in a way it almost moves too fast in the subsequent episodes and I wish this was a 60 eps series (although its not permitted these days).

Here's to hoping! Ha Ha. I dont really find the SML that annoying, mainly because the FL shows him no interest (so far).

Same here, love his grunts! I like the differences between the characters. He is a grumpy God of War who did very little socialising, so makes complete sense he doesn't really speak much/not good with his words - also I find his grunts super cute because it is usually in response to something he finds awkward! LCK didn't grunt at all I don't think. I didn't have high expectations of the FL based on everyone's previous comments on MDL - she was a bit whiny at the start, but has really shown character progression in the 3/4 lifetimes. I found her imitation of CK quite good, I could actually picture CK in her. I too like her character here - she is very mature in her handling of her relationship with CK.

Yes editing is so so weird, I was quite detached in the early eps, but it has improved so much, but as you say most people will have dropped it and won’t give it a chance. I so wish more people would persevere as it’s a gem so far. I think it’s a series I will revisit.

So unfair that it’s down to the actors. I also don’t get the onus on the leads to turn down jobs, I mean competition in China is so high, I think they all know they only have a finite chance to make as much money as they can in a short space of time, so it shouldn’t be down to the actors to turn down a job, it’s the fault people casting inexperienced people for the job. But I don’t think YCY is THAT bad, some of the shows I have seen are so bad, I can’t even get past the first 20 mins. I don’t really like the acting style of a lot of the more famous actresses/actors. It’s a very personal thing.

As I said previously - I was initially disappointed with the adaptation, and the hype, but once you focus for what it is, I am really enjoying it, not all the changes are bad, and it is visually so stunning. I am biased with DYX - I would watch him watch paint dry 😅, but it’s my first show with the FL, and I really like her. I really feel sorry for the actors, social media can be so toxic sometimes and then as you noted management haven’t handled it well. Oddly, I think if it had no hype, it would have been a sleeper hit, because the story and styling is so unique.

I missed the bit about Wang Yuxi - what did he say? what did the leads send to him? Is there an article I can read?

I do think - during the new espisode drought -will rewatch for the little details and read comments from you guys to keep me sane!

They already did the misunderstanding trope with the Shifu and disciple tribulation - but it was less annoying than usual, because you knew Fairy XY would understand and as XX she had her memories wiped - where she kissed him and their hearts glowed, despite her thinking she was a pig for slaughter, showed you despite knowing that everyone only wanted you to be a heart donar - she still loved Shifu - I found that quite touching. I love how meta the show has been - going through all the tropes and acknowledging them ☺️

Think main story in the 4th tribulation - is that the general has sworn allegiance to the king, but the princess is related to the empress (king step mum) - so any kids princess has, could replace the king. Hence why King was mad at general for getting the Princess prrgnant, and why someone plotted to arrange the miscarriage. He was obviously supposed to marry her and not touch her.

And Stone Goblin too! First thing he asked about was the welfare of his friend - much to the annoyance of Yingshi. Stone Goblin has left deep impressions on the siblings hearts.

In the trailers where he (in demon form) is in bed with her (and appears to sniff her) gives me butterflies 😝

😂 personally I can't get over how much tea CK/Shifu drank over the last eps - I kept thinking that DYX (with retakes etc) must be wanting the loo all the time 😅
