Here’s hoping the app doesn’t freeze again 🤞🏽 Anywho, I just finished Legend of the Magnate and in the BTS, she mentioned that that was her first costume drama. Thinking back to all the dramas I’ve seen her in, they were all modern. So I decided to double check all her work and forgot she was in Dr. Cutie, one of my first Cdramas. Unless this was her first Qing Dynasty drama but the translation didn’t mention it. On a side note, I see she has a lot of new dramas coming out. Good for her. She’s one of my favorite actresses.
The guy in the end is the young boy in first episode, Su Xiao Hu,son of su shuhe who committed suicide to prove…
Thank you! First episode felt so long ago that I totally forgot but now that you mentioned it, I kind of remembered. It was nice they kept in touch over the years.
Finally finished this and although it was good, they tried to fit too much into the story towards the end. I was almost getting a little bit bored when they introduced the foreigners and the overlapping of different languages spoken, along with trying to read the subtitles. I know it’s for accuracy because there really was an East India Company and that the British looked down on the Chinese at the time. I am glad it had a happy ending but can someone remind me who that guy was at the end? idk why I thought it could have been his son, but it wasn’t. Wish we had at least 5 more episodes to wrap the story up, or maybe another season. Would I recommend this to anyone? Absolutely. There aren’t many Qing Dynasty dramas out there compared to wuxia/xianxia/historical/modern ones, so it was refreshing seeing something different (I’ve only watched a handful of Qing Dynasty dramas in the past). I do wish though that the ratings were a little higher. It was in the 8’s, but now it’s at 7.9 as of this comment (12/12/25). I think it went down because of the rushed ending or possibly lack of romance (not one single kiss in here that I remember), although both main couples were cute.
I’m on episode 35 and I’m glad iQIYI dropped all episodes for free lol. I will try to get to everything tonight but definitely finish this by this weekend. idk if it’s me but did the ratings go down a little? I hope the ending doesn’t disappoint.
This drama is over a 1/3 of the way done, but why is the cast listing not being updated 🥲At least with the last 2 seasons, they listed the guest roles and what episodes they were in.
I finally finished this masterpiece and wow. Kudos to all the actors. I know whatever timeline they were going to end up in, sacrifices were made. I wish it could have been a happy ending for everyone but it was impossible and that’s why I’m torn at the ending. I wish this has more recognition because everyone did an amazing job, from the actors to the director and even the costume designers for capturing 90’s style perfectly. I wish I could wipe my memory and watch this over again. I would rate this more than 10 if I could.
Usually they don't pay to much attention for English name. But the drama name in china is totally different meaning,…
I guess that makes sense. I saw a lot of the same main cast and was excited for a second season but it’s not really a continuation. I still think it has a lot of funny moments like first season though.
So we have some of the same cast as the first season but they’re playing entirely different characters? Why call it Hilarious Family 2? Very confusing. I remember Jackie’s character in first season being very nice and meek but in just the first episode she’s so brash and boss like. I will still watch it because I love her and Ren Hao’s chemistry but I wish they would have named it something else because the plot is so different from first season.
