I was waiting for this drama, but they destroyed the novel with this adaptation, such a a pity. I loved Dilraba…
Okay I’ll agree as well. I love Dilraba and she did great in this role, but Chang Yi didn’t seem to suit that actor and he seems constantly lost, like he’s a guest on the set and someone put a costume on him.
I don't see how this romanticized abuse at all. If you finished the drama, you'll know that the male lead has…
I’ll admit I dropped this show halfway through. Maybe it gets better later? He locks her in a tower where she almost freezes to death! (Despite the “test” it’s still weird) I’m also not into the old tired, poor innocent low rank woman/ powerful strong man tropes, so it’s a miss for me regardless. I know it works for some and no judgement to them, but I probably wouldn’t pick this up again.
Ok so, the ratings and reviews look quite promising; but as someone who Hated Boys Over Flowers (the Korean version), is this truly worth a watch? I like the cast and the trailer seemed decent too…
I found this drama a bit late but it’s crazy how good it is! The healthiest, most unproblematic storyline completely unlike the majority of BL’s. It’s not the most exciting plot and definitely all fluff, but it’s the type of traditional romcom LGBT couples deserve. Just when I was about to give up on BL’s, a genuinely great one appears!
Not everyone sticks to the novel, and the view count of this drama is pretty good compare to other Tencent costume…
They don’t have to stick to the story of the novel of course, but you can’t say the novel is empty of content when the show is literally about the sad ML’s horrid family drama. There’s the soul taker sect, cricket and locust army, combining Jizhou and Youzhou, Wu Yuwuyan’s family curse. And obviously the FL’s state which they have completely overlooked. The view count is high cause the actors are awesome, and their chemistry is to die for. Which is also why I’m watching. But I didn’t think they’d spend literally all the episodes on one of six states. I wonder how they’re going to cram everything in 5 eps. The show is good to me, as long as I don’t actually think about the plot.
Ok so, many thoughts on a show I loved when It started off perfectly, but it’s become a horrific family drama. The ML who was cunning and talented cries every episode now and a minor palace full of dummies is the centre of the story?! Only 5 eps are left and they’ve ignored a very smart, strong female lead to the point where she’s also a supporting character. They’re also not doing justice to Huang Chao’s much more interesting story line. I’d love to see more of the other side and Qingzhou and less of this annoying family. At this point, I’ve been reduced to supporting Yu Wuyuan in murdering everybody. Honestly, if they made another 30 eps and covered the other states I’d certainly watch it cause the actors are all amazing and the production is excellent. As it is right now, it’s a huge disappointment to me personally and I’m guessing everyone who has read the novel (which is very good Ofc). I see now why the producer wouldn’t promote this show lol.
I’ve watched historical cdramas in the past and wondering whether to watch this? Is it too focused on the romance or does it have a strong plot? (Also, I’m not interested in watching weak female characters, so is that an issue?)
I’ve watched TMOPB and gave this a try. It looks pleasing but the reviews on this site hold true (as always of course!). It is the glorified portrayal of a toxic relationship, a male main character who mistreats the female character and we’re all just supposed to put our brains aside and go along with it. Why these shows are highly rated is a mystery to me? Especially when almost all of the audience is women? It’s pretty sad tbh…
I’m also not into the old tired, poor innocent low rank woman/ powerful strong man tropes, so it’s a miss for me regardless. I know it works for some and no judgement to them, but I probably wouldn’t pick this up again.
