If only the Thai bl industry would prioritize amazing story telling and honed acting skills over visuals, scenery and that ridiculous cartoonish sound effect every time a scene comes up. Yes, you’d probably pique people’s interest with the superficial things but to have them hooked? Waiting for any little crumb you have to offer, you simply need to tell amazing stories and partner it with people/actors that are willing to do what it takes to make the characters come alive. Barely half way there and it’s already in my top three for 2022

That such things happen shouldn’t be an excuse for them to keep on happening , especially in something like a tv series where the writer is in complete control of the narrative. It’s a grey area which could have been easily avoided. Do you want your characters to have drunk sex? If yes, make that clear that they’re both drunk. It’s really not that hard. If one of them is lucid enough to realize the other person is thinking they’re having sex with someone else and yet goes along with it, then it becomes debatable. I don’t care for fairy tales yes, but come on! And saying mark should have known better or Should have taken better control of himself is shadowing the lines of “well, why did you go to his house?” Debate a lot of people that have experienced SA are regularly asked. Yes, he could have been robbed or had to sleep on the street and Vee gets points for seeing him home safely. But he can’t be applauded simply because of that, we cannot saySo what if he had sex with him knowing fully well Mark thought he was having sex with Bar? At least he got him home safely. The beginning of some love stories can be messy yes, but what is wrong is creating mess that is clear and well defined? What’s this hype about constantly blurring lines. If as a writer I wanted to show drunk sex, I’d make it clear that Vee also doesn’t know what’s going on, just as much as Mark. Then you can say it was a stupid mistake due to alcohol. It has nothing to do with ‘wokeness’ or being the bottom. If it was one story then we can say ‘oh, it has happened just one time’ but it seems to be a pattern with these BLs: questionable sex where the no one is certain the bottom consented or not. My point? It was unnecessary.
Probably one of the very few BLs that held my attention from the first episode. I was instantly captivated by Yin’s acting in the en series (very surprised people think he was the weaker of the two in the first franchise). I can’t remember much of the en series but I’m sure I prefer War’s portrayal of Mark this time around. Yes, he’s a bit obsessive but he clearly knew what he wanted and went after it with gusto, retreating when it would no longer be deemed respectful. I can’t fault him for that.
I really wish we’d leave the grey line of is it or isn’t it rape behind and by we I mean BLs. There’re a thousand and one ways to depict the start of a relationship without going that route. You might not think it is but it’s slowly blunting peoples perception of that word and kinda desensitizing them. Same goes for the cheating trope. In my opinion, it’s lazy writing. It also has the effect as what I mentioned earlier cos yes, it looks like gf is cheating but Vee didn’t know that before he did the same thing so we can’t even say that it’s because he’s hurt. It makes it hard to root for the couple. Terrible foundation for a relationship.
Issues aside, I can’t find one single problem with the acting itself which is what I usually pick on (as I believe People in the end, should be allowed to tell whatever story they want to. Do I want them to take so better in the aspects above? Yes but I can’t force them. I can only simply just stop watching). Probably the most natural acting I’ve seen this year right from the very beginning of the series. I mean most series don’t start out naturally but pick up the pace but YinWar don’t have that problem. Chemistry ? Solid 10. For the first time in a long time, I’m actually looking forward to the next episode of a university BL drama. Goes to show that you can take something that’s generic and still make it exciting. I mean half If the people here have watched the en series so know the whole story but are still eagerly waiting for ep 3. That it is a university BL is no longer an excuse to put out subpar work.

For those saying people were expecting sex scene….umm, no?! There’s a HUGE difference between slow burn and downright boring. To my star? Slow burn. This? Extremely boring! I found myself continuously using the skip button. The way the flash backs were set up was very difficult to watch. The sound effect? Very irritating. Honestly I wonder why BLs still think they need them. Acting? Very subpar even for first gigs. I’d give it to whoever picked the music though, at least it was good. I just hope they don’t over use it. You don’t need sex scenes to make a story interesting, what you need is an interesting story. And it’s very hard to keep viewers interested if you don’t blow their minds in the first episode. (and I don’t mean fast paced or action filled. Whatever genre just blow their minds). This episode missed ‘mind blowing’ by a thousand miles. Ps. I just watched the special episode and I’m 100% convinced that Nine/Chahub used to be a piece of marble and someone took a chisel to it and sculpted him to perfection.
