Their encounter in the episode 14 preview already looks promising. I watched a recent spoilery bts vid showing their future scenes where they seem to be really close so I'm interested in seeing how their relationship deveops.

Don't really understand the immense backlash against the FL. I think its lowkey kinda pointless to write essays and be super angry at her this early on because we are in her immature arc of course she is going to be foolish, reckless, mischevious and easily trust her peers. But as we can see in the start of her one month training she's already admitting to her mistakes and working on her shortcomings (like being behind in education) and will apologize, so maybe some people need to chill here. Her personality is silly and fiery but at least it makes sense in the beginning stages of their relationship. If everything she does manages to irk you then maybe consider coming back to binge the show or else this disciple arc will annoy you as she is only just starting to learn more about the world and likes to mess with her shizun (based on upcoming previews) but also take his lessons seriously. If Shi Ying can be patient with her antics and acknowledges her potential to be just as skilled as the others, maybe the audience can too.

Well if that's gonna be your reaction to the first two eps might as well just drop the show. There will be scenes expected from Xianxia genre that could make you cringe and it will be a slowburn relationship. I don't have any problems with the story or acting since we are only 8/40 episodes but this really doesn't seem like your cup of tea. Or maybe revisit it when it can be binged entirely. The first 4 episodes were released altogether so that would be a better way to have the first impression of the drama imo.

That's not bad script writer it is just you having completely different expectation of the story. First of all Shi Ying has no intention of embarking on revenge from the start and taking back his rightful crown so how can that be the drama's focus. Second this is all based on a novel that is about the tragic love story between him and Zhu Yan so that is going to be the main focus until they get embroiled into political and personal feuds. I watched 8 episodes and we have been shown that the Qing clan is focused on seizing power in the shadows and the Bai clan leader wants his daughters to secure their power and Da Siming is still hoping to enact with his plan behind Shi Ying's back. It is not supposed to be a revenge story and anything with the royals is supposed to serve as buildup to when the country eventually gets into chaos. We're only 8/40 episodes there's ALOT more to come this is technically a flashback arc.

ep 8 flower bridge scene is such a cute start of their relationship but was also kinda bittersweet moment, cant wait for more. I already saw previews of Shi Ying turning into an animal when he's shy thats so funny and unexpected haha

Really enjoying his take on the "cold" shizun character, would also have to thank the drama for slightly changing things up according to people who read the novel

I'm his fan so I happen to know his antis cling onto the Golden Broom award as the absolute measure of his acting even though IT HAS NO MERIT OR CREDIBILITY. YOU are the one here bringing up Ren Min being nominated for that same award in your original comment and I am saying it is bogus if even Xiao Zhan can get one in his career. And he got one because the creators had personal bias against him but no one pays attention to that award because like many people above said... it has no worth.

Xiao Zhan antis love to bring up his golden broom award too even in 2023 when's he's already proven himself as a good actor so maybe your opinion isn't so correct. It is not a valid award sorry, just a bunch of industry guys who like to go after the actors they dislike

It's obviously a political move for the Empress to remain in the palace as a reminder that she is still the true Empress to the chagrin of the Emperor who does not love her. Her plan was definitely had no intentions to escape with her son since the beginning. Also need to consider she has to stay as the Empress in name for the Bai clan to stay in power

Overzealous fans would say they only watched his parts and skipped everything else but no, the drama actualy does a very good job at getting people invested with the supporting cast and their journey also thanks to the actors as well. The side pairings hold their own
