They tried...I give it for the script.

The drama starts strong, with plenty of angst, tension, and a compelling revenge setup. Nearly every character is at each other's throat, creating constant conflict that keeps the story moving. The plot itself is engaging, and the soundtrack does a great job enhancing the atmosphere.

My biggest issue is the main couple. Despite the drama's strengths, they never develop convincing chemistry. The female lead is undeniably beautiful and carries herself with elegance, but her performance feels much the same as in her previous roles and lacks the fire needed for a vengeance-driven heroine. The male lead isn't particularly appealing either, making it difficult to invest in their romance.

Meanwhile, Shen Zi Shan completely stole the show. I suffered severe Second Male Lead Syndrome and found him far more compelling than the actual male lead. Had he ended up with her, I might have enjoyed the drama considerably more.

While the story continuously introduces new conflicts, the payoff is often lacking. The revenge plot gradually drifts into the treasure-hunt storyline, and many antagonists face consequences through their own actions rather than through the heroine's schemes. As a result, the female lead often feels more like a spectator than the mastermind of her own revenge.

Xu'er's character was another weak point. Both the writing and performance felt one-dimensional, relying heavily on repetitive expressions and familiar jealous-second-daughter tropes. Her ending was particularly unsatisfying. For someone responsible for so much suffering, she received a surprisingly peaceful and liberating conclusion, robbing the revenge story of the catharsis it needed.

The drama also relies on convenient logic. Characters recognize Lou Ailian far too easily, weakening what should have been a major reveal. Likewise, General Xu is astonishingly efficient when pursuing her but makes little progress on the treasure case until the Shen siblings become involved. These moments feel more plot-driven than character-driven.

The biggest problem, however, is the execution. Major revelations, confrontations, and acts of retribution often lack dramatic weight. Important moments come and go with little buildup, emotional impact, or cinematic payoff. Even when the story reaches the correct destination, it rarely delivers the satisfaction the journey promises.

Overall, the drama has an interesting premise, a strong supporting cast, and enough intrigue to remain watchable. However, weak lead chemistry, uneven execution, and a disappointing lack of revenge payoff prevent it from becoming truly memorable. Everything needed for a great revenge drama is there, but it never quite comes together in the way it should.

Honestly I would have loved it if Danqing had kicked Xu'er of the cliff herself rather than allowing her to paraglide happily~
