Ho Dam? That book?
So the theory is that its
the story about the current king who overthrew and killed the former crown prince. And that Prince Lee Rim has a connection to that former crown prince.

i've seen a lot of ppl complain about eunwoo's acting, so i'm not sure if i should watch this.anyone pls tell…
There is no universal standard for acting. What's good or bad acting varies from person to person. I personally see nothing wrong with his acting. I mean he's not great but he's not terrible, hes decent and hes getting better every episode. In the beginning he's a young, innocent, naive prince who is experiencing things for the first time since he's been confined inside the castle for the past 20 years. Yes at times his acting is over the top and exaggerated but he's also often used as the comic relief. He also has a lot of surprised looks that people complain about but its used so often i feel thats more the directors choice. You don't really see any character development from him until the end of episode 8, or the end of episode 4 if you're using Netflix. It also has a really captivating plot and focuses on women rights. Its a modern drama set in historical times not a straight up historical drama and is more like a rom com. That being said the only way you'll know if you'll like it or not is if you actually watch it :)

I guess thats a reflex. Hes been getting a lot of hate this year and a lot of it is unwarrented. Hes the purest soul and deserves better. That being said i actually dint mind when people give constructive criticism. Opinions matter to the people giving the opinions not to his future acting career or really to the South Korean entertainment industry. I mean if they did why is SSK still getting hired? I think part of it is the directing and how his character is written right now. But I even said some scenes of his made me cringe, and yes they were the emotional ones, and that I was tired of all the surprised looks, too. But I'm also not going to judge so harshly on the first episodes he did of a new genre especially when he showed improvement in week 2. You want to know what grabs my attention with his acting? His eyes. Just go re watch the last scene of the last episode, he went from a shocked little boy one second to someone who is capable of murder. His eyes were his acting tool in MIIGB too. The people that noticed were very impressed and the ones who didn't complained he only used one facial expression. Yes another reason I responded is because you seemed to be open to having a civil discussion. Anyways I'm done fighting. I said my peace.

Trust me I don't reply to all of them. I only reply to comments where the author seems small minded or ignorant and thinks their opinion is more valid than another persons because they think they're right. When you post on this site, anyone can answer not just the person you're replying too. And you are as well using the exact same argument, what is your point? And fun fact our opinions don't matter. But also reading negative comments really sucks the fun out of watching the show for some people. Its just for entertainment purposes.

When there's 7.6 billion people in the world no one is going to be agreed upon by everyone. Because let me tell you there are many people who like his acting and love him in this role while there are people who dont. Good or bad acting varies from viewer to viewer, as theres no universal standard. Even the people considered the very best actors have their fair share of critics. I guess at the end of the day its important to remember, an opinion is just an opinion, and none of them really matter.

Same. They're taking their time with it. Theyre going from enimies to friends to lovers. I'm all for it.

I have to disagree. His acting is spot on for his character. He's a childish, naive, innocent prince who is used…
I'm not going to judge him so harshly for something so early on in the series. They were the first episodes he filmed and its a new genre for him. He was better in episodes 5-6 and even better in episodes 7-8. Like I said his best acting for this show still looks like its ahead of him and if that's the case is anyone going to care about how he acted in the beginning of the show? Also as you said it's like watching two different dramas in one. His character was just there and didn't really seem to have a purpose. I'm excited to see his character and acting growth as he goes from comic relief that has been cut off to someone who is maturing and fully immersed in the plot.

Yes but how much of that is him and much of that is the director? What if he's acting the way the director wanted? Then isnt that just a matter of your vision of his character being different than the directors? Because those things you're complaining about seem to be things hed be directed to do, do they not? I think youre being too harsh on him. A lot of us actually like his acting in the drama. And then there's those who don't and that's okay. I just think a lot of this criticism is subconscious because people have an idol actor bias, or they thought he never should have gotten this role in this first place; so they only watch to prove themselves right and therefore only see the negative when's there is a lot of positive as well. I'm not saying he's perfect but his acting has been getting better every episode and in next weeks preview it looked better as well.

Fair enough. I just think theres a strong possibility its his character thats turning you off right now. But if its not its okay if you don't like his acting not everyone is going too. I just hate when people hate on him because he's an idol actor and not a regular actor, which unfortunately happens a lot.

I love Eunwoo as an idol but his acting is quite lacking and cringy sometimes. I still have hope on this drama…
I have to disagree. His acting is spot on for his character. He's a childish, naive, innocent prince who is used as comic relief in the beginning which is why his facial expressions are exaggerated and he has over the top acting. But if you saw the last scene of the latest episode you'll see a small dose of what he can when he becomes more worldly and matures. It seems from next weeks preview that his best acting is yet to come. Just give his character a few more episodes I have a feeling hell grow on you.

Couldnt agree more. When I don't like someone I just don't pay attention to them, I don't understand people who find everything about this person and repeatedly write mean things about them. It's not like its going to change anything. I've seen so many negative things about him, and only four episodes have aired how can you truly judge from that, that it actually started to suck the fun out of watching the drama. Thank God for the block button. Also how can you accurately judge someone's acting when you know about the character they're playing?

So does Netflix drop the episode the very same time it does in Korea? Does it automatically have English subtitles…
But this is simply your opinion, 1 out 7.6 billion people in the world. I mean I get that you believe it so you subconsciously believe that its right but don't you think its a bit foolish to believe EVERYONE agrees with you? I don't mean any disrespect but sometimes people forget the world is bigger than them and their opinion. And I do respect your opionion btw, I just genuinely disagree w/ it and so do a lot of other people who are really enjoying his acting here or in his other dramas. I mean is it crazy to say what is considered good or bad acting varies from person to person, as there is no scientific or mathematical equation for it? And when will people stop holding his face against him? You talk about people giving him leeway because of it but have you ever thought about the filpside? Yes he gets leeway but he also gets a lot of hate because of it. Also let's talk about this idol actor bias, do you honestly think someone who already believes this idol shouldn't be acting is going to go in w/ a nuetral pov? Do you think they all have clear judgment and that they're not subconsciously looking for things to hate on/criticize? This all being said I do think he still has a long way to go. That he could improve in some areas but I also think he'll show that throughout the series with the growth of his character. Call me optimistic.

Honestly I watch for the story. Its hard for me to find a kdrama/drama I don't want to fast forward or skip through episodes. This is the first one I haven't wanted to do that too in a long time. I think a big contributing factor to the crictisms is theres a big idol actor prejudice. But yes that is his character and i think hes protraying him well and im also looking foward to his growth. Anyways, never doubt your own taste because were individuals and are allowed to like or dislike different things, even if others try to convince you otherwise :)

I am too. Just offering a different perspective for those who are quick to criticize his acting in the first four episodes, even though those episodes were clearly setup/filler.
On Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung Jul 21, 2019
I've seen a lot of criticism of Eunwoo's acting and I just want to point out a different perspective. If you look at his character right now he's aimless, doesn't have a voice, nothing that he stands for, its his first real experience outside the castle walls, etc., so his acting at the beginning doesn't bother me because he doesn't have a well defined role or character at this moment. The series is about him starting to live and finding himself after meeting Goo Hae Ryung. If he can show improvement of his acting with the progression of his characters self discovery are people really going to care his acting wasn't the greatest in the beginning? I mean yes the rest of the cast are great, but look at their characters they're well defined and know their places. Maybe this was the directors intention...maybe it wasnt. Point is none of us know. People just assume he was casted for his looks but if you really look at it Eunwoo really matches his character he's new, inexperienced, a fresh canvas, acting in this genre for the first time, etc. Someone who really has the ability to grow along with Lee Rim and really connect with him. Maybe the director wanted authenticity over perfection. If you're enjoying the rest of the cast and the story then give Eunwoo a chance to show the director made the right decision in casting
