Title Gelboys
The first episode seemed interminable with very little of interest occurring apart from Fou4mod and Coach meeting,…
What generation do you belong to? I feel like this series would be most appealing to Gen Z and Gen Alpha, otherwise older generations won't really understand half of the things that are going on here so naturally they would be confused and bored of it. Especially because what they are trying to do with this series is not to make a cinematic spectacle about certain tropes that will appeal to large groups of people, but rather to portray the lives of teenagers who live in the age of peak of technology and social media, as realistically as they can. And so far they are doing a great job at it. For example, even if the main plot of the series is about romance and drama, there are still quite a lot of "easter eggs" or let's say hidden messages about various aspects of life of teenagers that are quite relatable to watchers. For example him breaking up with his girlfriend and instantly deciding to change his whole appearance, personality and even the things he likes in order to appear 'cooler'. Then the way teens in school walk, talk, run, laugh and their very changeable and labile interpersonal relationships. How they use technology for everything in everyday life, how they use social media to flirt . The spotify playlist, instagram stories, the sticker and charms mania, not answering to text messages, obsession with social media appearance, obsession with being "cool". Experiencing the first serious crush and all they joys and excitement of it, then him stalking and doing embarrassing things to create opportunities to talk to his crush, the very awkward flirting in person, the very awkward talk and hug...Personally all of these little things are even more entertaining than the romance part itself, and I've found all of them very relatable and nostalgic about my teenage years.

I'm sorry for the being the odd man out. But, ep. 11 made no sense, even for a dramatic pause. I guess the fantansy…
Idk, it did make sense to me. They both are very aware that they are literally criminals who murdered multiple people. And they got to choose between doing more crimes (faking passport) and running and hiding from the police and the government and living in fear their whole life and on the other side to take 5 years in jail, suck it up and deal with it for 5 years and then being able to start a new life and live freely and without fear and hiding. If I was in their shoes, I'd do it too.
Honestly, viewers should also be aware that Fadel and Bison are criminals, no matter how good their morals are, they still broke the law, and it was only a matter of time before they would be dealing with the consequences of their actions. It would be more unrealistic and fanservice to have a plotline and characters like this and still expect that no one goes to jail and live happily ever after without facing any consequences first.

okay, but catching Lily was so anti-climatic. wym the plot just ended like that??
True, I knew they wouldn't kill her and didn't expect it but still I expected catching her to be a bit more dramatic , that scene literally lasted like what, 3 minutes? LMAO

This drama is not meant to be realistic at all. The text on screen, the comedic tone, heck the whole plot, is…
Yeah, unfortunately a lot of these things are reality in some countries. It might sound crazy and unrealistic to some people who are not familiar with these stuff, but I personally am from a country where social image is very important and people care a lot about what other people think about them and how well liked they are. A lot of things about a person are considered embarrassing here, like being an orphan, being adopted, not having a father and being raised by a single mother, your parents being poor and doing simple labor jobs... All these are things that are considered embarrassing for a kid and might cause them to end up being bullied in school. It is a shitty place to live in, and I wish things were different.
When it comes to kdramas like these, even though they are sometimes overexaggerated for the sake of entertainment and thriller and drama effect, I personally think it's a good thing that they are trying to portray these bad and faulted things about their society through tv dramas and bring consciousness and educate people, and maybe bring them to start noticing these things more.

Unfortunately, it, in fact, is the reality of students' lives in South Korea. Yes, the kdramas like this one can sometimes overexaggerate the situation with all the mafia and violence, but other things are not that far from the truth. The amount of peer bullying in South Korea's schools is insanely high , and there are a lot of teenage suicides. There is a big distinction between high, middle and lower class families. Teachers in schools transparently favor kids with rich and influential parents and often turn the blind eye to the bad things these kids do, either because the fear of their parents or the need to get the approval and be in a good favor of these parents, because having bonds and being friendly with influential people can open up their career opportunities. Kids with rich ad influential parents will more easily get into prestigious colleges and have better opportunities for working in big and successful companies.
Also, the work-life balance in South Korea is quite different than in western world. The average working hours per week are longer, and on top of that very often people stay on work overtime to finish up. This is why a lot of kids, both rich and poor, are often neglected by their parents and are left alone raise themselves up or do what they want without much supervision.

In conclusion, there is a lot of things happening in their society, and a lot more than i just described, there is a whole system of how things work between high and low class families there, about the school, studying, cram schools, mock exams, universities, internships and everything else and it would take me too much time to explain everything up, but you got the overall idea.

I LOVE the overexaggerated fighting scenes, like there is probably some truth to it, but whenever Gamin unrealistically…
the overexaggerated fighting scenes are only adding up to the comedy

you just have to watch to find out
Well nothing drastically, but the pacing obviously, some of the characters' behaviors and personality, some minor events and some fighting scenes which obviously couldn't be copied from a webtoon to live action

Yup, they already changed quite a few things, but whatever happens I think this is definitely worth watching. The acting by everyone in the cast is good so far, it is a very dynamic and action packed drama - there is not a single boring or stalling scene. The comedy is peak, I had a good laugh for the majority of all episodes so far. There were quite a few deep and serious moments but it's good to keep in mind that this is mainly a comedy and action kdrama. It is definitely way less serious and much more funny than the webtoon.

I think there is no way to wrap up the whole story in just one season, especially because this is such a short kdrama, with only 10 episodes and only 45 minutes per episode. The only way to do it is to drastically change and shorten the plot from the webtoon and come up with their own ending.
