I rarely watch dramas while they're airing as I rather binge the whole thing in one weekend but i couldn't help myself.

The novel is really long but they had to condense everything into 40eps. The pacing is faster than a typical cdrama but just about as fast as a western tv series. Just that they're not very experienced in editing at this pace.

You might get more intimate scenes in a modern cdrama - look up "the forbidden flower". You're not going to get the same kind of on-screen intimacy in ancient dramas as people are recorded to be very conservative in ancient times.

There were a couple intimate scenes in the novel yes:

TTJ and YXW actually had sex (before LSS took over her body), even after LSS took over, the poison continues to act up periodically and at some point she was touching herself.

Mingye and Sang Jiu did it too. Also Pian Ran was a real seductress, she had sex with several men, at the same time and drained their life force.

But most of the things cut from the novels are more violent or gruesome things like:

1) When TTJ was born and his mother died, his father threw his infant self to the wall in a fit of rage

2) Baby TTJ was immediately thrown into cold palace with no one to care for, a rat came to eat him but he instinctively caught it and ate it instead. That was his first meal before the two maids his mother left behind came to look after him

3) He didn't use crows to disrupt the wedding, he summoned demonic bees that punctures through peoples heads, he killed dozens in that wedding.

4) TTJ was not only blinded and poisoned, his Tendons were cut and he was made cripple by his brother

5) After LSS found TTJ, she brought him to a village to nurse him back. The village and nearby town was found haunted by a peach tree demon, they teamed up to fight and killed it. TTJ was swallowed by the peach demon but he found an ancient relic "World destroying flower" known as "World Alluring Jade" in the novel and used it. He also absorbed the demon's meridians to heal his tendons. LSS had to take the relic out of his body and also exchanged her eye with his blinded one. This whole arc was cut.

6) When TTJ became king, he gouged out his brother's eyes, cut him into pieces, cooked him into soup and fed it to those ministers who refused to yield.

There are many other details either cut or changed completely. At this point the novel and the adaptations are at most 50-60% similar.

Think about a Wuxia drama you may have seen like Word of Honor, Who Rules the World etc. everyone there are mortals.

Then you have the Untamed, where you have Cultivators and ghosts. People call those cultivators "immortals" but they're only honorific, they're still mortals but with hundreds of years of lifespan. But Heaven realm was never mentioned in the untamed so the series is set in lower immortal context.

What you saw in TTEOTM is higher immortal realm where LSS used to live. This realm is actually separate from mortal realm where mortals and lower "immortals" live. That's why LSS can't beat TTJ, he's a literal God while she is just high immortal. All the Heaven Gods in the series had long died fighting the previous devil God before the events in ep1.

Then above the high immortal realm is the heaven where Gods live. Ten Miles, Ashes of Love, Love and Redemption, LBFAD, Heaven Official's blessing etc all involve God Realm.

Sun Wukong the monkey King, Nezha etc are all proper Gods.

And then there are realms above Gods and depending on whether you follow original Chinese creation Myth or Buddhism, the realm above Gods is either the Titans like Pangu or the Buddha.

Wtf do you expect her to immediately and whole heartedly fall in love with the man who murdered her whole family in front of her?

This aint a Disney movie, go watch an idol drama if you want fluffy romance and sunshine.

I agree that i prefer the colder Mingye from the novel but not consummating the marriage is realistic in this context. Mingye was destined for Godhood and he has trained his Dao heart to be free of Earthly desires.

The only way his Dao heart shattered came later when Sang Jiu died in his arms before he can make up for his mistakes.

Immortals are still mortals, they just live very very long. Only by attaining Godhood they become true immortals.

It goes like this from weakest to most powerful: Animal realm, human realm, demon/immortal realm, God realm.

At the beginning, when LSS fought the devil God TTJ, all the Gods have long died fighting the previous devil God.
