That's Pan Xi, a spirit locked inside a trinket Muyun Sheng always carries around with him.
I found out a bunch of stuffs from reading around, also you'll find out gradually later in the episodes.
This story is set in a fictional world of Novoland (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novoland), there are like 6 species including humans, dwarfs, winged humans, mermaids, titans and spirits.
Spirits are unique in a way that they don't exist or usually occupy the physical space. They are formless, genderless and usually only exist as abstract entities. Only when they come into contact with physical races they gain the ability to take form. The form and gender they take depends on who they come into contact with.
If you haven't found out already, Muyun Sheng the prince is half human , half spirit. His mother was a spirit who took human form and married the Emperor.
It's the greater world/Universe the Novel is set in. Imagine something like Elder Scrolls or LOTR universe. There are multiple timelines/continents/stories in Novoland. This series is just one part of a greater whole. There have been over 30 other books/stories not related to this one but set in the same Universe.
The novel didn't actually end, i think that the tv shows goes even further than that of the novel so no one knows,…
Muyun Sheng is completely, utterly preoccupied with his spirit stuff he wouldn't even remember SYN exists past the ceremony. He lives in his own little world with Pan Xi, nothing else matters to him.
Just going to reply to you with what I can make out from google translate:
We, the western audience aren't stupid. We can make out what's a good series and what's a bad one. Despite our hype, we recognise that the series isn't going to be perfect but will that deter us from watching it and enjoying it? Of course not.
Chinese industry is still growing, it isn't just realistic to expect something like the game of throne but we can recognize the effort to innovate/bring something fresh and different to the screen and the Tribes and Empire is exactly that, something fresh and innovative out of all the romance/palace/idol dramas that's been plaguing the asian/chinese drama scene for the past decade.
There's no reason you should tell us what's to and not to like. We are perfectly capable of making our own judgement.
Tribes and Empires is already a great series from what we have seen and we will react to it accordingly despite whatever flaws it may have.
I heard they just reached 1 Billion views? That sounds a lot of views, is it a lot? Considering only 10 episodes are out for non-VIP viewers, I feel like this is a lot?
You hyping it up this much and those of us who rely on eng subtitles can't watch it and understand why, please…
I'm hyping it up because it deserves to be hyped up. I don't want people to get the wrong impression from initial slow pace. Ep 16-18 really show cases the level of detail and technicality the crew put into this series that CANNOT be found in any Asian drama before this one. I literally stood up from chills running down my spine in the middle of ep 18, I couldn't believe how they meticulously planned and shot that one 3 mins sequence. Everything, cinematography, acting, lighting, music comes together in perfect harmony to blend together a very magical atmosphere.
Could u tell me if the drama is a huge success in china?
There was a plan to broadcast on Hunan TV but the deal fell out, probably due to producers refusing to cut the drama short. Hunan can't accommodate enough slots for the drama and it has a habit of butchering most dramas that it airs.
It's a good thing that this drama didn't get aired on TV otherwise it'll be cut until it's unrecognisable from original vision. Also the format of the drama isn't suitable for TV airing. It needed 12 episodes release on the first day since the first 9 are back stories, if it airs an episode a day on TV audience will just lose interest.
I haven't start yet waiting for subs but curious about " Dou Shawn" char is negative or positive?
His character is great, he has plenty of personality both when he was young and when he's old. From what I can make out, the girl character he gets paired with has similar sense of humour as he does so it makes them a good match.
Guys, I know you people are dying to see it but I just have to let this out. This is going to be the Chinese drama with the best production and it is most grand in size and scale.
It is dark, it is breathtaking, it is mysterious at times and the characters draw you in as they develop.
You might find the episodes 4 to about 9 a bit slow in pace as they're introducing background story and world building but stick with it.
I just finished episode 18 and I'm still shaking from this one sequence in the episode. Now I can safely say that this drama has just set a new standard for Asian dramas. Trust me, it will give you GOOSEBUMPS.

Criticism is good, cynicism is not.
Edit: Also they aren't in love with each other, yet. She is his refuge, he is the only human she knows and comes into contact with.
