Probably One of The Smartest show Airing right now— Smart and cunning Male Leads & Female Leads are strong &…
If only CENT industry could learn from this and Joy of life/Nirvana in fire etc. instead of churning out countless poorly written and directed Xianxia romance dramas with horrible CGIs and acting.
I am so happy, coz there are other here, who DO KNOW still about Brigitte Lin! jesus, i remember nearly 3 decade…
Hear hear, Brigitte Lin was the first crush of an 11 year old me. I still make it a ritual to rewatch all her works on a yearly basis.
The first time I saw Zhang Tian Ai's character standing on top of a tree, with her silky white robe flowing and flattering in the wind, I got chills down my spine, it was a love letter to all the iconic characters played by Brigitte Lin and that's how I know this series is already a master piece.
You should watch Sword snow stride. Same male lead and same production team and some shared casts
Yeah that's what I told myself but I watched the first episode and i was hooked. I'd even claim that it's even better than Joy of Life, at least in the first few episodes. It appears they learned and improved from their experience filming Joy of Life. Now I'm hyped for season 2 JoL as well.
I'm crying tears of happiness and sobbing for a good 10 minutes now. I've been WAITING almost 2 decades for a good proper WUXIA drama. Not only did I get a Wuxia series but wuxia with visuals, set pieces and art direction of a classic Brigette Lin era wuxia works based on Jin Yong novels and Tsui Hark productions.
ON TOP OF THAT, I'm a HUGE sucker for powerful female martial artists and Zhang Tian Ai's character is my love at first sight. My god this series is already a master piece for me.
Alright, I have to admit, I've been vehemently against idols with no acting skills being cast in dramas and movies just based on their fame and large social media followers.
I still am against it but because credit where credit is due, Victoria and Wang Yibo both have improved very visibly from their previous works. Still not YET at the level of veteran actors like Huang Xuan but I can tell they treat this profession with due respect and has put in a lot of effort to pull their weight. This came as a very pleasant surprise to me and I'm able to fully immerse myself in the story despite my initial scepticism. I'm looking forward to seeing more of their future works.
I kinda really love that the women here, while gorgeous, are not your usual porcelain doll pretty. They also all…
Well they have to write competent women characters for this one as it is set during the period where Wu Zetian was the sovereign. Her rule was the only period in which women were able to hold office and court positions in ancient China.
Guys, where can I watch it eng sub after episode 21? Really appricate if anyone can tell me. Thanks.
English subs are only at ep 21. RAWs are up to 33. If you want raws, just copy paste the chinese title in google and the episode number, that'll take you to pirate sites.
I like how Ruo Ruo sister gets a lot more screen time than the supposed female lead wan'er lol. Great for me because I love strong, intelligent female character. The actress is really pretty and plays the character very well.
Also anyone else just wants more scene with the second prince? He's really eccentric and weirdly charismatic in his own way. He's one of the stand out supporting character in the drama for me. The way he perches instead of sitting normally really adds to his character.
That's terrifying. T_T Have they started to shoot season2? Looks like it has no entry here in MDL. Oh no.
We need the whole cast back together, even the minor support characters. At least we need the greedy chubby dude, guy in wheel chair, the emperor, second prince, rouro sister, legolas guy, blind uncle, chicken leg girl and of course the MC. Actually we need EVERYONE back together because this is the first time in a drama I've seen everyone delivering their role to perfection no matter how minor.
Watched this, because it promised to have the gorgeous Li Qin as the leading lady! What a waste of time! I want…
Tbh I'd personally rate is as "good" but not "great" cos I'm a sucker for Xianxia genre and not many of this type of movies are made at block buster level. If you look at Xianxia series or other movies in this genre they're cheaply made with ugly special effects. This one has at least improved a little on a heap of trash that has been made before.
Yes the lead actor need to improve as well as the Meng Mei Qi but I thought they were "decent" considering they aren't very experienced. Li Qin of course stood out to me and it was a surprise as I've never seen her other works before, but that is to be expected as she's a proper actress.
MC's character as well the actor's acting was weak at the beginning but his portrayal of the character going berserk was done way better than this dumb acting counter part. I think the actor (xiao zhan) will improve given time. The idol actress Mei Meng Qi also has a mix of good and bad moments but overall I'd give her acting a pass with real good potential to improve exponentially. I generally detest idol actors in my movie but I'd like to see her more.
Trust me I'm very critical and picky when it comes to cdrama or movies but I want this movie to do decently well maybe gross just a little over $100 million so second movie can be green lit and give the cast another chance to build on what they've learned from this one.
We are already in season 2. Episode 25/26 was the cut-off point between the two seasons. The entire show has 48…
I'm guessing you can read Chinese? I'm jealous, so many Chinese sci fi and literary work that I want to read but Chinese is just too difficult to learn.
Honestly, I want Chang'an team to redo all the classic Wuxia series like the water margin, condor trilogy, swords man, dragon gate inn etc. The way other studios have done it, I feel like they're just prioritising style over substance.
Anyway, I don't know how much I trust China to tackle a sci fi production atm, too much moneyed interest in the industry ruining things. Just check out Shanghai fortress
A complete CGI fest with an idol actor as leading man. This is what I fear TBP would become.
Also have you seen Novoland Eagle flag. Stunning visuals, I'm liking what I see so far, but the characterization, script and story telling fell really short of LDChang'an. I made some criticism about it on Novoland MDL page but I got hammered by a few fan girls. I guess I am partly at fault though.

TBP live action has been announced? Wait, just to clarify, you're talking about the one they're supposedly making since back in 2015 ish right? One that is in limbo and going by the rumour it has been scrapped because it just so far off the standard that TBP deserves.
As far as I know, live action adaptation is being considered, not actively being made. The deal with Amazon fell apart as well because they didn't want to let Amazon buy the IP.
Only the animation adaptation is confirmed and in the works.
Ep. 20 | Deacon Isse: "You are such a matching pair. You make me so ... envious."I savor the scenes with Tan Qi…
It takes a real grunt to get into the heart of someone like Tan Qi lol. And her "pervert" is cdrama equivalent of "baka" I guess.
This series has so many amazing female characters, I love the two courtesans, I love the bounty hunter girl and I love Tan Qi. You don't see this sort of well written, well defined female cast in Cdramas usually. I'm feeling incredibly optimistic about Cdramas watching this.

Love Li Qin as an actress but her character is meh.
