I'm not optimistic about the series you linked, the two leads are idol actors and I drop 99% of series lead by idol actors.

Yeah casual cdrama viewers are drawn by romance and visuals rather than politics and intrigue. A casual viewer may also be put off by a rather slow start but if you can get past that, SSS is a real gem.

This one ep/day is such a turn off. Why would they apply such a mood killer? Aish I'm so pissed. Can anybody reply…
I would say Love In Between would scratch that itch. Not up to the high bar set by JoL and SSS but that's only because the bar is way too high.

Love in Between on it's own without comparison would make it one of the better Wuxia or even Cdrama productions of the past decade. I would call it a flawed combination of NiF and JoL/SSS.

To put it simply, the way I see it, NGPS' qualities put her as XFN's equal but their marriage would be disrespectful to either one of them because a marriage is never equal.

You know the writing is good when even a side character like Lu Qian Tang(the scholar guy) gets unexpected character development that's a whole 180 degree from his first appearance as a scoundrel. Now I'm beginning to feel attached to him and sympathise with him.

It is a great series when even side characters get the respect and good writing that's usually only given to Main characters in most productions.

I love the wuxia elements in this drama combined with the political factor, similar to JOL. I kind of like this…
Yeah I'm personally rating this my fav cdrama of this past decade just slightly ahead of JoL and NiF due to this having adventure elements and I love adventure. I also love a harem of strong female characters.

I Heard drama is not doing so good in China. Iqiyi had to put another show into SSS's timeslot titled "enemy"…
It's already 11th on DataWin's chart, which includes Dramas already aired from beginning of the year, despite having only been out for a week, it's about to surpass Pear Eclipse and most likely to enter top 5 by the end of Season.

I know you have a hate boner for Teresa Li but please don't spread misinformation. This is Childish. If you don't like the drama, move on.

Jiang Ni doesn't really mean to kill XFN for real. She did say to Youwei(the cat lady) that she attempts assassination on him time and time again so that it becomes a habit for him to be on guard in case in the future, someone does actually attempt to kill him for real. That's her way of training him to be cautious.

There's a master class of acting that draws me into a story like a written novel; I see the story unfold as the…
That's because Zhang Rou Yun is an actor, not an idol. Huang Xuan, Chen Kun, Chang Chen
etc. are also great.

In China there is currently an epidemic of sort where casting decisions are made based on the number of Weibo followers and not acting skills, hence Idol celebrities with no acting skills are cast as leads and the fan circles organize to inflate the views and ratings. When I see an idol as a lead in a drama, I instantly black list it.

This reached number 2 on my ranking after ever night. it displaced joy of life because of harem of smart chicks…
Haha yes, great minds think alike. This is more enjoyable for me than JoL because of a harem of smart, beautiful and strong female cast around the ML. Nangong Pu She is simply divine with her presence. Qing Niao a quiet beauty who is certainly more loyal and devoted to ML than she appears. Jiang Ni is really cute without being annoying. Hong Shu is still very mysterious. All of them are helping ML out in their own ways without being a burden. This is how you do a harem right without being bogged down by romance.

I do wish the fighting was more Wuxia with fast, crisp moves than slow motion CGI but the acting, plot and the character development is too good that the pros far outweights the cons for me.

Just move on and watch another drama if it bothers you that much. You've been on about FL in several comments for several days now. It jut makes you sound like an obsessive hater. There are actors and actresses I don't like but I don't go on and on about how much I don't like them.

Yu Youwei is actually the character that kind of annoys me, not Jiang Ni. I don't see her purpose and she is pretty…
Lol same but I think she'll become relevant later on. At this moment I think she does have a purpose in presenting Jiang Ni as rather mature in contrast.

awww damn. it only ONE episode per day now T . T
And it's going to inevitably end in cliff hanger because the book is very long and it's only 38 episodes for season 1.

Pain.

FL is not as pretty as the other ones. i like the swords one!! she s so pretty
She is pretty, but traditional kind of pretty. You can tell she has never went through cosmetic surgery. I prefer a traditional beauty like her.

Most Actors and actresses of China's Gen Z(or a little older) are really good, they're uninhibited and isn't very conscious about LOOKING good on camera but rather ACTING good on Camera.

One way I judge whether an actor/actress care about delivering good performance on camera or looking good on camera is to see how they act around food. If they actually eat the food not just pretend by taking a tiny ant-sized bite, then they're likely a good actor. If they're not afraid of burping on Camera, that's even more of a sign of good acting. Talking with a mouth full of food is good too.

In SSS, Jiang Ni stands out among young actors. The way she was drooling while sleeping, on the way to brothel she shouted at a group of women with a mouthful of fruits, in the brothel she was eating this mooncake thing while talking to NgPS, you can see a bit of food stuck at the corner of her mouth. You can see Zhang Rou Yan and older actors like Uncle Huang just helping themselves for real in eating scenes. That is good acting.

Other younger Chinese actresses that stands out to me are Zhang Ya Qin from Love in Between, Xiao Yan from the Legends, Zhou Ye from Word of Honor, Zhou Yu Tong from Young Blood, Su Xiao Tong from Imperial Coroner etc. just to name a few.

I won't name names but a lot of Cdramas with big names are usually preoccupied with making their lead actors and actresses, especially the females look good on screen rather than delivering a convincing performance. They're shy of giving them a bad image, even going as far as to making sure they remain pristine clean after a bloody dusty fight scene especially if the actor/actress in question is an idol with a huge following. Being uninhibited and unrestrained in front of Camera is key to good acting but Idols have to be constantly conscious of their image which goes against good performance.

Sorry for this, I just want to mini-rant because superb acting all around in this series just make me come to realization why I can't immerse myself in 90% of so called big-budget production dramas nowadays especially in Xianxia romance genre.

Try Luoyang. It’s also good
I love the actress, I just really dislike the character. And yeah, the series is one of the highlights of 2021. It's not as addictive as SSS and JoL but gripping enough to keep me engaged.

SSS just drew me in instantly because:
1) I really love powerful women warriors
2) I like intelligent and cunning protagonist who's not afraid to kill
3) I love well developed side characters with their own motivations and enough intelligence to be an asset, rather than burdens to ML
4) I love that there are no idols turned actors being put in there just because of their popularity
5) The amount of loyalty and devotion main lead's servants and friends have shown to him reminds me somewhat of Overlord webnovel
6) I love it when a harem(?) is done right
7) Female lead is cute but has a mature side and isn't a burden to ML
8) Romance is not the main plot
9) I love Wuxia

Yeah I'm caught up on it as well, tho the romance plot in it is so annoying, I just skip every scene with Liu Ran. It's unneeded and feels like they just put it in there to attract female viewers looking for Wang Yibo's romance scenes.
