A flawed master piece. A must watch.

Like others have recommended, watch Joy of Life after this, same production team, shared casts, same script writer and same vibes.

This drama rating is low despite its quality because:

1) They advertised it as Wuxia drama when it is actually Xuan Huan so people felt lied to
2) A lot of people don't like FL's acting style (not her skills)
3) FL's actress Teresa Li has a lot of haters cos she was caught smoking in public

The score shouldn't be a sole indicator of the series' actual quality as there's a lot of emotions when it comes to voting. This is one of the best dramas I've seen in past 2 decades including other master pieces like Nirvana in Fire 1/2, Advisors Alliance, Joy of Life etc. Personally it's 9/10 for me.

Fighting scenes could be better rather than CGI and still would appreciate slightly faster pacing in some episodes but it's a flawed master piece.

I hope it gets a season 2 otherwise I'd be heart broken.

I think he'll have a turn-around moment soon since he himself is now on somebody's kill list.

Sigh, I wished Qing Niao heard what XFN said about her...

The more I watch, the more I've come to love Qing Niao. Her cool but mature temperament hides a fiercely loyal character underneath. This is the first drama where I actually like the whole female cast and the harem aspect of it.

Can someone who has read the book spoil me with (a Yes or No) if Nangong Pu She will get more screen time later on? Please do spoiler tag in consideration of others tho. Thank you

Think of Xu Xiao as a more ruthless and more experienced version of XFN.

It's not a romance focused drama at all. There are occasional moments but they are very brief.

It's one of the few greatest cdramas I've watched in past decade but it's not Wuxia. It's Xuanhuan

I love Qing Niao, she's just such a quiet yet determined beauty. There's just something so attractive about her. She's my favorite female character alongside Nangong Pu She.

The general can't rush into battle, cos if the general dies, the whole thing falls apart. And if the general is fighting the enemy head on, the body guards can't focus on fighting the enemy, they'd have to keep an eye on the general and the enemy which means they'd be fighting at disadvantage and also putting themselves in more danger.

Think of foot soldiers in Cdramas as stormtroopers in starwars. Useless.

Most of us really don't give a sh*t so take your fan wars and Teresa Li bashing back to Douban or Zhihu or whatever thank you. I bought WeTV VIP just for this and I'll enjoy it to the end.

That's because they are casting real actors who don't care much about how they look on Camera. If they make an idol actor/actress look even slightly less than perfect, their fan base will riot.

Huang Xuan carries it for me, overall plot is good but Yibo character's romance with his wife drags on and on. I praise Yibo for his hard work but feels like romance subplot of his character is just forced in there to draw viewers.

Not only that, it's holding back Cdrama industry because casting idols with large social media followers regardless of their acting ability is a sure way to make money but in turns you compromise on the quality of productions. Not to mention butchering the characters because companies are afraid to cast idols in anything other than "stand there and be good looking" roles.

China needs to crack down on that behaviour, banning social media rankings isn't far enough, they need to break up large fan clubs.

This is why I'm against casting idols in TV series, their fan base always war against other works to superficially drive up their favorite idol's work. Luoyang is great, I'm watching both but it's a very childish thing to do.
