We are already in season 2. Episode 25/26 was the cut-off point between the two seasons. The entire show has 48…
Lol I don't even trust Hollywood to do the three body problem live adaptation let alone a relatively new Chinese studio. LDinChang'an team is great but TBP is a whole new game altogether.

Bring together the best of Hollywood CG technical team with the best Chinese director, bring in Liu Cixin and give him a mix team of Hollywood and Chinese script wrtiers + a budget of about $300 million and 2 years to make the magic happen.

Anything less than that, I rather they don't touch TBP. Else they will butcher it. I rather not see my fav sci fi ever ruined.

Anyway the animation looks good. That's enough for the time being.

Any idea when Season 2 is coming? I wish it concluded with just one season tbh so that we could get a nice wrap up. I want the team behind this to tackle another drama, hopefully a Wuxia epic.
On Novoland: Eagle Flag Jul 24, 2019
Song Zu Er's acting is just mediocre. I think she needs some experience acting in support role before taking on a lead character in a high profile drama.

Angel Wang's character Su Shun Qin is the stand out female character for me. She's mature, caring and mysterious. Very well acted by the actress as well.

Well guess what, I can post whatever I like if you want to adopt that attitude. Don't like it? As you said, get stuffed. Imagine trying to police people on the internet. Some may welcome my comment, some may not. You have no authority to dictate whatever one comments on the internet. It is silly to think otherwise.

This is such a problem with any fandom related to Asian stuffs. You can't give constructive criticism or compare and contrast without a fan girl going all sort of drama on you. For the record I love both Dramas, I criticise and also mention LDinChang'an because I want people to experience both drama and have a sense of where Chinese entertainment industry is heading. It comes from a good place.

Nobody is forcing you to make a choice between the two. The beauty of the internet is such that one can enjoy both. You are vastly underestimating the intelligence of an average drama viewer if you think one will get put off viewing something just because they read a mild criticism about it from someone.

It's the same problem in Kpop fandom, you being a fan is fine but being a fangirl/fanboy isn't healthy, there's no need to be so rabid about something. If you're all praise about something then the industry will never move forward. Think about it, if you love Cdrama/Asian drama don't you want them to get better and better? It benefits everybody.

If you have a problem with my posts then go and check out what the actual chinese have to say about your favorite dramas on Douban. You'd probably have a heart attack.

And don't be so impulsive and readily label someone as a hater. If I hated something I wouldn't be here. I have Youku, Iqiyi and Viki premium to support this industry, what about you?
On Love and Destiny Jul 23, 2019
I find Ni Ni a much better actor than Yang Mi, Mark Chao and Cheng Chen are equally good in their own ways however. I'm liking the support cast a lot more in this than TMPB especially Zhang Zhi xi, she is so beautiful and full of grace.

Mmm, I'm not too familiar with the time line but gender equality was pushed by Wu Zetian so the events in drama took place after Wu Zetian died?

Plot wise it won't be nearly as good as currently running Longest day in Chang'an. But if you want an epic low-fantasy…
No? I watch both, CDramas are the only things I watch nowadays. I even prefer them over Kdramas.

I compare the two because these two are the best of 2019 so far. And as a fan of Tribes and Empires, I wanted Novoland to be a massive upgrade which unfortunately is not. I'm not disappointed, I'm just here to tell people to manage their expectations.

Even if I wasn't a fan of LDinChang'an I would still compare it to novoland because objective criticism is how you improve your work and I wanted Cdramas to rival the likes of Netflix, Amazon originals in terms of BOTH visuals and story telling. I want them to have well written characters that are relatable and backed by good actors, I want my story to be mature, well grounded in reality beyond cheesy melodramatic theatre with an eye candy idol cast.

So yeah I'm going to end up praising the productions that tick the above boxes, doesn't mean I'm against the one that ticks only a few of them. TLDR; I don't hate anything, I want fellow Cdrama fans to diversify and demand more from their favorite genre.

I'm going to feel like a broken record but the plot and script direction isn't there yet if you compare it to Longest day in Chang'an. Novoland is an incremental upgrade to your typical Cdrama plot line.

They massively upgraded the visuals and production value but only a minor upgrade to conventional cheesy and cliche story telling of Chinese fantasy dramas. It sometimes feel like watching a very well produced live action Anime with stunning visuals.

I'm not saying this to bash Novoland, I'm saying this as a massive Cdrama fan who wants to see the industry take a solid step forward. Longest day in Chang'an has just set a new benchmark for Chinese dramas and I wish to see the whole industry follow.

I really liked the trailer and I wanted to ask if this drama is so good before I may waste my time watching it...
Plot wise it won't be nearly as good as currently running Longest day in Chang'an. But if you want an epic low-fantasy Chinese drama with stunning visual production then yes it is def worth watching. I'd rate the visuals and production value 9/10, the plot 7/10, characters 6/10.

And rest in peace Xiao Yi (the spy kid), he sacrificed so much, he loved his duty, he was loyal to his boss but he also loved his adoptive father who he unfortunately had to "betray".

Zhang really deserved that slap from the courtesan.

And man that scene where Zhang made the guy choose between freedom and his "love", broke me. Such a well written scene. It played to the reality of human character so frighteningly well. The actress who played the caged courtesan deserves an award as well.
On The Longest Day in Chang'an Jul 23, 2019
Anyone just wish Zhang and Tan qi would fk already? The tension between the two is killing me, Zhang is literally the manliest man I've ever seen in a Cdrama. And Tan Qi is just damn too attractive, I love strong independent women characters like her that stands her own ground. Their relationship is just so organic, never seen something like this before.

Idol casts, they have to have one in pretty much any big production to draw in viewers otherwise the big budget is a risk unfortunately. If you want the best show running right now go watch longest day in Chang'an.

Longest day in Chang'an is leagues above Novoland in terms of characters, script, plot and writing. Even in terms of production values I would say they're equal with maybe Novoland just a notch above Chang'an due to how big the world is and the variety of of sets. But Longest day in Chang'an is just the superior show. It's the best production out of China so far in all history.

@RSMasterfade You mean AvenueX? She does have a point for about the first 10 episodes or so, it took a while but episode 14-15 is around where characters really did took off I would say. I love the romance subplot between Zhang and Tan Qi, their relationship is so organic

That's a sign of a great actor isn't it? I feel like from the main leads to the support casts, everyone did a tremendous job. It's not just the acting though, characterization, the script (omg the script) all are just league above pretty much every Cdrama I have seen so far. It's one of a kind Cdrama and I hope other producers will take note. It's not cliche, it's mature, it is realistic, characters look and feel like how they should in their given roles.

And don't know about anyone else but damn sexual tension between Zhang Xiao jing and Tan qi is just killing me. Fuck already you two.
