Syai and BT below took the words right out of my mouth as I was typing them.
I think the theme of this Episode was "Honesty is the Best Policy" After being swept off our feet at the end of Ep20, we all secretly wished that she reciprocated his feelings at some point today and they could start taking their baby-steps forward (pardon the pun). No one wanted this more than me.
But that cannot happen. Not yet, at least. In the little universe their story lives in, I still maintain they are simply too early in the story line for this to happen. We still have over 3 months to go. But more important, as Syai and BT point out, YD can't feel this way yet. She has too much to consider and hearing these things from a committed bachelor would make no sense to her; especially after her defense of him to his family. Is he simply confusing appreciation for love? Is it some kind of paternal instinct gone amok? Is he just lonely? Has he confused their make-believe relationship for the ‘real’ thing? At least and to my appreciation, at the end of the ep she relents to permitting him to keep trying. This is a good thing I think and the most we can ask for at this time.
Something will happen, some external stimulus, to make her realize his feelings are true and she can allow herself to admit her love for him too. Traditional dramas say we are far away from this. But this is no traditional drama, so who knows?
As far as other 'honest moments': • Both Uncle and his old flame both have an understanding of sorts about themselves and each other. He knows something is up with her and it's good to give her the space to come to him if she needs help. And she trusts him as well and won't overwhelm him. That's nice. I'm pulling for them. • DW and YM now see the truth between them. They were both honest about her goals and his situation and concerns for his child. Theirs would be an interesting relationship given her intelligence vs. his, uh, lack thereof. I think she’s older than him too (she's 30 - she got a new mom when she was 10, and InOk married CS 20 years ago). I think he’s in his mid-20s? • Even SJ's mom was honest with her daughter in telling her to stop and asking her estranged husband's help. • About the only person who wasn't honest (with themselves at least) was SJ who has now begun the descent into obsession and darkness. It’s not about love, or even ‘him’, no matter what she thinks….TK is an object she thought she could possess that has now been taken from her by an inferior woman. She wants her toy back.
Welcome to Meri’s weekly rambly summary for TRHC full of wrong assumptions and misheard dialogue bc my korean…
BT, I don't know what to say. I'm not sure what left me more speechless....your recap or the Episode itself. This one left me with a lot to think about., with not only them, but her uncle and brother. It's weird to have all 3 couples in a drama that you really pull for. More comments later...time to do the yardwork before dark.
thinking about it, it doesn't look like KS arm. skin tone and size of arm don't match to my eyes. Based on length/style of sideburns, hair shape and ears and arms....i'll guess...SANG SOO. I know that sounds dumb, and it should be KS, but that's all I could come up with (and I really DONT want it to be the punk coming to her rescue).
From the start, Taekyung liked the photo-strip gifted to him by YD as a memory of their day there. He smiled when…
These little touchstones were really well done and something that everyone can relate to. Thanks for pointing this out! Where is the current location of the pics?
Well, a milestone reached, not in terms of plot movement, but at #of episodes. 50 in, and we're getting nowhere as everyone else has commented. I've switched full time to the 'anything new?' mode, as my expectations of this mess are gone. That being said, let's see where this will go: -50 eps so far -KS won't move on until the missing wife comes back. So, in order for there to be progress, she needs to return and cut him loose so she can pursue her own interests. This is the key point in the series, as nothing will happen til she returns. I'll be generous and say she returns (even if she's hiding in plain sight) to the family in 5 eps from now. 55 eps in then. -It will take at least 2 weeks to complete this arc of her return to departure and its impact on JD (up to ep 65 now) -something has to happen to push him to MR and vice-versa (allow another 10 eps for this) (up to ep 75 now) -so they begin seeing each other around eps 75-80. -so 40 episodes (2 months) for them to date and eventually marry. During this time will be JD's issues, both families issues & intrigue from her side of the family. So, if the whole premise of this series is actually a 40-50 episode drama, it makes sense that we've gone nowhere to date. And I get the feeling that 40-50 is prolly excessive and will be more like 30 eps (6 weeks of shows). So we could have much more filler potentially.
They couldn't even let her get a job? SERIOUSLY? The writers won't give us ANY movement in this stupid show????…
I think you'll enjoy it! The show starts 8 years (I think) in the past to establish the storyline for the leads, then jumps ahead later to the present.
😂😂😂 I love your description - we call it rubber neckin’ here in Texas. Either way it’s an apt description.…
I really have given up on this show; if it wasn't for being something to watch while having lunch, and sheer curiosity that they might actually show some progress, I'd have switched to something else.
So what kind of progress did we get from today's episode? That fermented fish left outside will stink. Smelly fish. Really? An episode about SMELLY FISH????? I can't believe this show! On the freeways of Southern California, drivers will sometimes slow down as they pass the scene of an accident, to get a view of what happened. This slowing down affects traffic behind them, which causes further slowing, etc. These slow drivers are called "Looky-Loos". This show makes me feel like a looky-loo, as I know I shouldn't watch to see this accident-of-a-Krdama, but I can't help myself. I have to slow down to see the horrible episode for myself. I think the producers must have tapped into some kind of subconscious desire to not avoid accident scenes and that's how they are keeping the audience from running off.
I've wondered that too. She told JH in ep 1 that she wants to be part of a powerful family. But Granny specifically…
But she (Granny) has power over the dad. He won't defy her, and if she says TK is out, he'll just limp away. After all, she prohibited his wife and stepson from appearing in the family portraits for 20 years and he complied (something that is unthinkable to me). Once Granny is dead, then Dad can rearrange the family as he sees fit. And SJ gets her place in the household. That's my only guess right now.
They couldn't even let her get a job? SERIOUSLY? The writers won't give us ANY movement in this stupid show????…
For me, IBN is one of my favorites of all time. At least up about ep 37, when it went off the rails with the adoption & cancer story. But, I was able to relate to one of the couples and it really hit home for me. If the oldest couple was not in it, I probably would have felt as you did. They also were so good about all the little details too, and it had a great OST.
Nam Sang-Ji was really terrific in BML as the FL. The show was about her story, raising her adopted nephew from a baby when she was a teenager. And she was written so well, that you ended up caring about her. I couldn't ask more from a drama.
There is something that I’ve never understood from Cruella/nasty biatch. She knows the position of GTK in that…
I've wondered that too. She told JH in ep 1 that she wants to be part of a powerful family. But Granny specifically told her in 19 to bring TK to get him to sign a waiver to not ask for anything from the family. So she KNOWS he's on the outs with them. I think, that SJ is in for the long-term. Granny will pay her to keep TK "under control", of course, but that's not what she wants. I'm thinking she's waiting for Granny to croak and TK's step-dad to take over. She figures he won't be cold to TK and bring him into the family and empower her too.
Otherwise, she's just become obsessed with TK at this point and has forgotten about WHY she wanted him in the first place.
They couldn't even let her get a job? SERIOUSLY? The writers won't give us ANY movement in this stupid show????…
Bravo My Life was really, really good. Both in writing and acting, the FL was really terrific and great chemistry between the leads. No amnesia plot, a few tropes (it WAS a daytime serial) but very entertaining. The 2FL was a nasty piece of work, but she eventually got a redemption arc (kinda); the actress was seen in the opening episode of THRC as TK's news-caster girlfriend. Those who committed a crime got punishment as well. Terrific OST too. They did a great job of keeping us involved over 100+ eps. Some episodes were absolute golden. I still go back and watch them from time to time. They also gave us a complete wind-down of the show over the last 3 episodes of what the leads married life would be like, which was terrific.
Love in your Eyes was good, but not as much as BML. It borrowed too many themes from BML, there was little chemistry between leads, they only really kissed once, at the end of the show. The FL really annoyed me for she created most of her own problems she endured. 2FL was very much like SJ from THRC. Plot did keep moving, but not as entertaining as BML, forgettable OST too. Best thing about that show was the little girl who played FL daughter.
The best way for me to desrcibe it, is I really CARED for the characters in BML. I don't really care about anyone in Apple yet. Maybe his sister in law. Otherwise, MEH.

I just can't imagine how this show was pitched to the network? What were the producers thinking? At this point, just pair him with his sister in law. She seems like a good person, they get alone, and she does care for him. And she's feisty, unlike MR. The more I see of this show, I keep thinking that KS +MR is a mistake....a pair of doormats would not make for an interesting couple. I've been spoiled by Bravo My Life and Love in Your Eyes, I guess. SIGH
