I guess with all we know now, it is safe to say she never really cared for what her son is or rather has been…
The problem with doing these now, is that they (the writers) are not proceeding logically with the characters, thus making any analysis at this time, kind of pointless (this is the trap I've fallen into now).
I've cited this episode many times before, because it was so well done and tells us so much, but go back to Ep 10 (the ill-fated family meeting). Starting at the5 min mark: BN: Living with a grandmother like that must have been excruciating. She would have been even meaner if there were grandchildren of her own blood. IO: gasps, begins sobbing. YD: Mother are you all right? IO: Yes, I'm fine. How silly of me.
RIGHT THERE we see IO's truth laid out in front of her. She KNOWS what she's put her son thru since his junior year of High School 20 years ago when she joined that 'family'. I think about that scene A LOT since they decided to destroy her character and turn the series on its head. IO's character is just stupidly done now. I'll stick with my only explanation of it: She still acts like a jilted lover - irrational, grudge-holding, and unreasonable. IMO, there is more going on with her than the writers will say.
What's really sad is that I went back during the "Button-Gate" theory down below with Myra & Kathryn & Fullybaked and watched Eps 4-6 to track the button's adventure. I was reminded about HOW GOOD this series was then. So clever and funny, and the characters were so interesting. Oh well.
I'm assuming he told the Chairman the same backstory he told MR about DH's past, as it puts his past in the proper…
the impression I got (which may be wildly wrong) was that he was forced to put her in care and then adoption when he was sentenced. it was stated by JH?( I think) about how she had to endure a lot before she was adopted. The sentencing thing was interesting. If he did indeed kill someone in that fight, we'd have heard about it when the Chairman was reviewing his record. Something like THAT wouldn't have been passed by. But how long a sentence could he have gotten for being in a fight? Assault charge? Unless gunplay was involved?
This was a really sweet episode that was as good as the previews promised! With the exception of the MIL and Big Dong (may they both get stuck in an elevator for the rest of the series) the rest of the cast was so much fun. Props to the Chairman for finally having an open mind, to HoSik for playing Cupid and being the friend that KS needs, to HR for her drunken big-mouth (wait 'til SHE sobers up in the morning!), and even to SS for actually thinking of his BIL and offering to set him up on a blind-date in the beginning of the show.
I'm surprised no one mentioned the embroidered (?) belt-chain SooJi was wearing 'N-A-S-T-Y'....
We finally have a confession and everyone is so quiet. 😂
I'll take a bow for this one: CALLED IT!!!!! (OK, i'll stop being obnoxious) She HAD to do it first, he would never be able by himself. Even with HoSik dragging him along. He has ZERO self-confidence. We haven't seen the end of this, either: She'll keep pushing him until we see the light bulb go off above his head and he starts listening to his heart instead of his mind. THEN, he'll take the lead. Can you imagine him trying to propose to her in his current state of mind? it will be interesting to watch his internal struggle for her heart. With her and JD pulling, and HS pushing, he might just make it on one knee.
ah so KS did tell Chairman that DH didnt have money or his own place because he has been donating to the orphanage…
I'm assuming he told the Chairman the same backstory he told MR about DH's past, as it puts his past in the proper context. The only thing we didn't learn is what he did for a living during the period after he quit the gang the first time and then jumped back in for the caper that got him in jail? Unless it was full-time care for his wife?
I'm confused by the comments below, and haven't seen the subbed version yet, so forgive me if this is obsolete. But I was thinking of yesterday's discussions about getting rid of SunJu's storyline.
I think, that SunJu is still essential for 2 reasons, and it all ties in to KS's self-esteem and need to sacrifice his feelings for others: 1. MIL (and to a lesser extent, YJ) need to realize that she is a BAD PERSON and not feel sorry for her (this assumes she did fake her death). This gives KS a guilt-free way to leave that house and I don't think he's going to get one until they all agree that he was mistreated by his 'wife'. Otherwise, I can't see him leaving and taking JD from them because MIL will insist that if he does marry MR, that MR move in (how's THAT gonna work?). So, yeah, SunJu needs to be exposed so he and his new family can leave in peace elsewhere. Maybe they can move in with the Chairman & CR if they kick out JH and his family to live on their own? (I'd rather see them get a place of their own, though costly). 2. Whether or not the truth about JD's father comes out is essentially dependent on SunJu. JD would likely endorse a KS+MR marriage and the truth about her is essentially unimportant. So they can let sleeping dogs lie and could even avoid her "accidentally" hearing the truth and all the drama associated with that scenario. However, if SJ reappears, JD could well-likely insist that KS reunite with her to re-create the family she's longed for. KS, who's guilt trumps all other feelings, would feel obligated to give it a try, breaking MR's heart. At this point, HS (likely) would feel compelled to insist KS to expose the truth to the family and if unsuccessful, HS might possibly do it himself anyways, to free his friend. Of course the MIL might not believe it, so bring on the obligatory DNA paternity test.
Anyways, I had my Analyst hat on last night, and since I've pretty much given up trying to out-think TRHC, this was bouncing around in my head.
I’m enjoying how aware of each other they are. That awkward tension when they get close or meet each others…
His self-esteem and self-confidence are in the tank, as Sher as cited below. This would apply to him asking any woman out, but on top of that is the whole class-distinction between his family and theirs. She HAS to make the first move, otherwise he'll die trying to do so himself.
I know this goes against the current theory, but I can see HoSik telling KS what his sister is up to (I think HR will be clever enough to make sure JD doesn't witness anything she's doing to MR, so JD won't be able to intervene or tell her Dad). KS has to send an unequivocal message this time, something he hasn't done before. Maybe even threaten to pull JD out of the academy and cut all ties with her.
I do get awfully tired of SS whining that KS has to watch himself or he (SS) could lose his job at HDF. Him losing…
I really wanted when JH was giving them the 3rd degree, for MiRae to say, "I got my shoe wet when I stepped in a puddle......like the one you're standing in now". Cut to JH's big face staring down at his submerged shoe.
TBH, since the writers are changing directions in the storyline, i really want them to also just let Sun Ju be…
That would be nice, but I can't imagine them giving up on their ace-in-the-hole dramatic moment, when she re-appears. Seeing what a bad person she was might be the kick-in-the-pants KS needs to say "screw it" and go for MR. It also makes the MIL mad enough at her daughter for her to apologize to KS and cut him loose. I just want to see them married and settle down with JD and watch the family dynamics. Maybe if they cut out SunJu we can get a few of those eps at the end?
You know, I'm really going to be disappointed if they toss us a clunker, because they're spoiling us with so many well-written episodes. And now, tomorrow looks good too, if the spoilers can be believed. I think there was a slight continuity error, with SJ being surprised the bread was so good, as she's had his baked confections before? And they are killing me with that shot of the plate full of pastries.
Poor MR, she's going to have to be the one to chase KS....that poor guy is gonna have a stroke if he gets any closer to her.

He needs a GoFundMe to get her a nice ring! LOL
