Q: So after 70 minutes of airtime, what was really accomplished in this steaming pile of empty calories?
A: Not much.
Sorry, but there are no highs & lows in this one, much less memorable moments. I'm guessing this was just a filler episode that only resolved: -Uncle knows YD's housemate is Hee - BN/DW know about YD and the baby and see them - BN threatens suicide at least twice - InOk knows YD is back - DW/YM are back together, still blissfully unaware of the drama in their families (yeah, right).
That was really it, and I'm overstating that some of these were even important points. The problem is this episode has now made the series bordering on the absurd: - YD is forgiven so instantly? All is good? At least she shows understanding and remorse for what she did wrong. - JH is breaking into people's homes and getting past hotel security at ease? He's threatening people, and yet no one has even figured to call the cops NOW? - DW/YM still haven't figured out what is going on? Him, I can understand, but SHE'S got her Master's and was going for her PhD! -SeJin is STILL working at NX group???
Sigh. In the end, with all this pointless running in circles, it's one character's mad dash that stands out to me: Is YD running to TK, or FROM JH? Once again, theirs is a relationship bound by comfort and emotional attachment. Not of romance or love (at least on her part). She needs him to protect her and her child. Is he almost a father figure to her? Honestly, I'm so fed up, that I don't even care anymore to even bother analyzing it. This wonderful, interesting series has been so blown to bits that I'm here for the morbid curiosity of how they are going to end the series. They blew the chance to set things straight in this episode and didn't.
I don't see how they can 'fix' everything by now in a believable manner -so let's just see the endgame.
Oh, and one last thing. Something is wrong with InOk. The actress doesn't even physically act the same anymore, and I'm beginning to dread what was mentioned here a week ago: She's seriously ill and this will be an excuse for her behavior.
In preparation for Ep37, I rewatched 36 last night to remind myself where we left off. One thing in that struck me that I missed before: (I know many of you are not interested in the YM/DW relationship, so skip if that's so)
In the bistro scene, he is called to by his 2 drunk friends. The look he gives them and then back at YM shows that he sees his past life in them, as a drunk loser. This gibes with what BN said, when she introduced him as "my unemployed son who drinks all night". I suppose at this point he can now begin to appreciate how much she has already changed his life? Maybe not pickling his brains in booze every night will bring some of his brain cells back to life. Will be interesting to watch, as I'm approaching TK/YD frustration-saturation now.
(PS - what was interesting in this scene is that the background music continued to play while the scene went on. Normally they fade it out when the conversations start).
delulu debbie the character has nothing to do with the actress tho. I bet she is a sweetheart irl
If they keep the Queen's story true to history, she is a tragic figure who helps her husband take the Throne and then gets kinda 'kicked-to-the-curb' by him. He also does a lot of despicable things to her family. So she will be much more sympathetic.
Just throwing this out there as I’m on neither side of BN being strawberry speculations. We have yet to meet…
IIRC, in It's Beautiful Now, the law says that for them to be cousins, BN needs to be added to the Gong Family register as Granny's daughter. If that doesn't happen, then they're all good.
Sorry, I was finishing up Heartstrings so I don’t end up sitting down in the morning to watch just a couple…
I just rewatched the last few minutes of that ep. Bakery scene to the end. I'll say this much: it was probably MR's finest few minutes on screen. All 3 of them were really believable. KS's expression as she was telling him of her trauma, and the look of "I'm not sure what I should do" on his face. I can't believe we have to wait FOUR DAYS for this to resume. GRRRR
The best Television show from any country, at any time , in any genre. Amazingly written and directed, superbly acted by a terrific cast (1 exception) and done in a way that makes 86 episodes fly by. I was saddened when the series ended.
You won't regret watching it, and will learn a lot of history as well. The one casting error (actor playing Young-Sil was a bit wooden and seemed out of place) would be corrected in the follow-on "Jang Young-Sil" series, featuring some of the original cast of GKS.
I only wish they would have made something as worthy since.
Wait, whaaat? You aren’t invested in our main couple?
I just don't see them as a good couple yet. 2 each goody-two-shoes and both so inexperienced. At least if he had an actual married relationship with SunJu (?) , it would be one thing, but as we speculated earlier, theirs sounded more like a perfunctory marriage than anything.
I got caught up with the comments below....Question: Will the missing wife reappear BEFORE or AFTER KS/MR start dating? In other words, is her final & permanent departure from the scene the green-light for KS to date, guilt-free? Or will she interrupt a good thing?
