I only have 6 eps left and now the subbed episodes are gone???? Do I really have to use my HSK 2 level Chinese and google lens translator to figure out how this thing ends? T___T
As far as I'm reading it, he's the son of the former emperor, so the nephew of the current one. Which would explain…
Though he might also be the younger brother of the emperor and the emperor murdered his own father? He says "I'm set up by my brothers everywhere" in ep 21...)
question: the ML is the emperor's brother?? or cousin or what? the SML is the emperor's son?
As far as I'm reading it, he's the son of the former emperor, so the nephew of the current one. Which would explain the identical surnames, that he calls the empress dowager 'grandmother' and why the emperor was so eager he give back the tiger tally (also in the first episode they mention 'The son of the former emperor has amassed a great army', which I guess also relates to him.)
(another sign that points in this direction: His older sister calls her mother "mu hou" = mother empress and says she left the puzzle for her; also she is called "Chang Gongzhu", which is normally the title of the favorite daughter of an emperor)
No matter is she’s in the cast list or not, Jiang-laoshi is in absolutely everything historical! Pretty sure she just shows up whenever a new show starts filming in Hengdian 😂 absolute icon!!!
Yeah, Fortune Writer's plot is different than the typical dramas... I don't mind having plots using Chinese ancient…
That's honestly one thing that I like about short-length dramas - sometimes you just get really wild weird special stuff that would never get made as a full length series

I mean, I know the basics of Buddhism, I meant the mind breaking thing more in a 'This story is so good and the twists are absolutely genius I think my brain is leaking out of my ears' sort of way 😂😂😂
Fortune Writer is SO GOOD!!! First time I've seen a drama that plays with Buddhist themes and philosophy in that way, I kind of felt like my mind was breaking a little bit at the end there, but holy hell what a ride!
explanation for the ending in spoiler-marked reply
I am 99% sure that the very last scene was a protection mechanism against censorship. Transmigration stories aren't okay right now, it can only either be a game or a dream or - like in this - a 'show'. If they didn't put in that last scene, they might have not been able to air this show.
Just completed ep 12 and found it nice and easy to watch. There is some mystery around the ML, as for FL it is…
It's very clear how and why here though. FL needs money for school bc her divorced parents won't give her money and keep telling her to ask the other one, so she beta-tests a super immersive VR-game where her real-life family issues are reflected, too. Real transmigration dramas can't be made anymore in China.

I think it might actually be time travel in the original and the Lian family are her distant relatives.... byt time travel is also not allowed anymore afaik, so they have the vr game plot
How is the drama so far? What are the vibes? Silly/mature? Some comments said the annoying characters (family)…
Extremely mature and realistic for a game-world-romcom. Very abusive family dynamics, but so realistic that it can be hard to watch. The ML seems to be in a parallel story, the romance is slow burn but in my personal opinion very sweet. It‘s more ‘I will support your ambitions’ than big romantic gestures, and it feels like a very mature, healthy relationship even though the ML is not honest yet.
There are some extremely tragic scenes in this, but they’re well done in my opinion.
Also just beautiful, immersive depictions of everyday rural life in a way I haven’t seen in a cDrama yet.
The end was really good! There is a surprising little postscript, and the last story was also really cute and the interactions with the writer and the director got super funny
The first 15 eps are extremely silly fun with some interesting unexpected but very funny plot twists, but in ep 16 a plot appears and I actually cried a little at the end???
It is incredibly weird but dang, solid writing, nice costumes, good acting. A gigantic surprise for me especially since I have never watched a vertical drama before
i am on ep 21. will her delusion ever end or will it last until the last episodes?
I paused somewhere around episode 28, but by now her delusions have found a new target.... Still an extremely weird character and her acting ability is not good enough for her to pull off this obvious shift towards "genuinely disturbed"
I‘m on episode 7 and this might be the most annoying ML I‘ve seen so far. More in the spoiler reply.
Well, the hero definitely improved in the second half of the drama. I still love the meta device, though I would have loved to see a bit more of Gugu/the NPC
