For some reason his face always reminds me of Dominic Cooper, good luck watching him at his bestπ€π»I didn't pay attention to SP's acting in DZ because I was sure there's something wrong with her character from the start and found her to be such a hypocrite at the end. Also I'm used to see wooden actors with no facial mimic whatsoever so I don't count it in my opinions unless someone actually can do more than widening their eyes and I have to praise them. π€¦π»ββοΈπ
Haven't seen TH, though she's FL in one of my PTW dramas, maybe I can see her his year.....

It's my only drama of Xu Kai, though I've heard of his Oscar worthy performance in his famous dramas ( not my wordsπ ) and I didn't see Sandrine Pinna again until this year in Danger Zone and Legend of white cat, so I can't compare but I don't think much of them. Although as I said, I really hated the romantic turn it took, normally I don't mind age-gap either way, even like them but this was one of those I can't stand.

Well, Idk how much you've seen and I've forgotten the details as it's an older drama, but XK had a best friend named Xiaohai, a prince from another immortal sect, he said his parents and a bunch of guards were killed by his older brother who was a demonic cultivator, then turned out it even though his brother did have a yao accidentally entering his body and had trapped and sealed it inside himself, it wasn't him who killed them but Xiaohai himself was possessed by a powerful demon and did the slaughter. His brother had sealed his powers and imprisoned him to find out what to do but after several years he'd escaped and went to cultivate anonymously in Lingjian sect to break the seal on his powers and take his parents' revenge hence provoked the seal on the yao.
Drama was finished with almost everything wrapped up nicely but in the last scene, Xiaohai finally managed to break all seals and yao inside him waked up a/or took his control again. π€There were rumours about a 2nd season with him as antagonist, I don't remember if I ever saw an offiacial annoucement. π€·π»ββοΈ

Once upon a time in Lingjian mountain is so ridiculously awful that I loved itππEven now I'm laughing as I write. Though the romance and all those loveydovey scenes left a bitter tatse in my mouth, THAT wasn't funny at all.....
When I was a child I watched a slasher movie, forgotten the name now, but there was a line in that about the murderer like "He toke a knife when he was a child and has not put it down since."
Wang Dayoung reminds me of this line, he never put down that blasted gun. I won't be surprise if he still goes around shooting it.π€¦π»ββοΈπ
Think about it this way: he spent majority of his time growing up under the tutelage of Ren Xin and getting attached…
You have a good understanding of him and his actions and I have to agree, though I should point out several things. Actually for all his drama, he didn't spent that much time under her tutelage, only 3 yrs from the age of 12-13 to 15-16. One can argue these are important time of a person's life and make his personality, I explained my own view of their relationship in details in another comment though.
I don't mind his obsession in the first place, It was heartful, sad and even comical. What I don't like is the back and forth attitude he has with it. He went and said he understood she loves another only to do something stupid again and this was repeated where as they could use his screen time to show how capable he is as a leader, making allies at the court, scheming like his fast thinking after An Di's death, etc. He was planning for the regency from the start but in action we only saw him doing what NYZ tells him to do as if it was Liudao Tong people who came up with the idea of killing An royal men and enthrone the baby, but his good characterization was wasted on a recycled delulu plot.
Also, they could also develope a nice romance for him but went tight and loose with that too. He showed endgame vibes with YY at first only to be engaged to CY and while they actually made progress and could be, turned her into a love interest for SS and left him alone. At the end he was just as unloved as the start π€π€¦π»ββοΈ
Running time was alright, the problem was what's common for dramas. Taking their time with fluff, filler substories, etc and ran out of time for the climax and wrapping, hence the plot packed ending episodes. Look how crampled Wu story was. We hadn't seen them for like 20 eps. then we saw all nice and reformed waiting for their king to come back. βΊ
