It depends, 2 ways are possible but she's not trying in the least, at least from what I saw. We can blame it partly on Ning's original nastiness during their 4 years but even in their flashbacks she was all patronizing.
I'm not binge watching as fast as I'd like so still in early eps. but one character I really dislike (my most hated so far) is Ning's mother. How can she be this horrible towards her own daughter? In such situations people drop the fake one like a hot potato and become nasty step parents but for her it's the other way around. She prefers the one whom she raised to to be a meek idiot to own child who's lived with that wretched mistress😖😒
