Yes, for all her schemes and cunningness, she only thought of herself unlike XW or even the Duke so she was unaware of all things happening behind the curtain. Hence she makes mistakes along the way and most of the things are news to her.

One of my compliments about this drama is the severe lack of screentime for the ML. Even SR's mom and the MIL get more than him. They bruched upin his marriage, separation and divorce in 2 episode with a total of like 10 minutes time spent on it.
Also we know near to nothing about his backstory aside guessing his uncle took over the company and sent him away NY to get rid of him.
And don't even get me started on his character developement and endless banter between him and FL. What happened to that food truck btw? It sounded like he wanted more than that but he just sold it and went back to the US with An Na after his one year was up?
One of my favourite things about this drama is that she went back in time not an omnipotent. As she says in more than one point, her only concern was being an empress and the only thing she remembered was that. This ignorance about the other people at the court, like XW and his relationship with YL and Xue's family struggles made things a lot more intriguing. I don't think it would be half as interesting if she was a sharper person who knew everything.
Maybe she has altra professional PR managing her fanclubs and sites 🤷🏻♀️ I could never get more than 5 minutes at a time reading these craps. I salute you for keeping up👌🏻🙏🏻

I can understand accepting the roles that are supposed to be the most beautiful can attract critism as in the actor in question is being narcissist and likes to hear praises (many actors do this and don't accept rougher looking roles anyway) but not the ugly part you've mentioned, that's crazy.
