I haven’t watched Episode 26 yet, but I’ve seen plenty of frustration directed at He Yan. Her story resonates so deeply with me that I feel compelled to share my own.

I’ve always struggled with very low self-esteem, feeling as though no one accepted me or truly saw me because I believed I was worthless. The only person who ever made me feel understood and valued was my dad. Not my siblings, not my friends, not even my mum, I always kept everyone at arm’s length.

Then, in January 2024, my world shattered. My father passed away from a heart attack. In that moment, I thought, “If he’s gone, who will accept me?” My mum tried to care for me just as he did, but grief weighs heavily. Even when I look fine on the outside, I’m plagued by the fear that my mum might suddenly die too. I sometimes catch myself thinking that maybe it would be less painful if I followed just shortly after her so she wouldn’t suffer the pain of losing me too. That's the kind of crushing loneliness that comes from losing the person who accepted you without question.

I understand the bravery and sacrifice of soldiers who die protecting others in war. But it’s different when someone you’re closest to dies. The sorrow is heavier; the loss is more personal.

He Yan’s situation in Legend of the Female General echoes this grief so powerfully. She loses her master, the one person who knew her identity and gender and her seven closest friends, based on the flashbacks during the war. She’s likely still grieving her master, and when you add any childhood trauma, losing her friends and then possibly Xiao Jue, could become her emotional breaking point.

I know what it’s like. If my dad had a second chance after being declared dead, I would have clung to him so tightly because losing someone you're close to isn’t the same as losing someone you merely know.

Also there's a flashback of his mother when He Yan said a woman needs to protect herself and not depend on men, I think He Yan reminded him of what his mom could be if not for the society

CZ sticks with his master because he needs power. He needs to rise in rank, and that's the shortest way he found. But his final goal is good. That's my opinion of him so far

I agree 😂 . Xiao Jue only started to really treats her different when SML said to He Yan he knows she is a woman and will keep her secret. Before that, he just treats her a little different (noticeable but not that much) compared to other soldiers.

same... to have my own opinion first is very important. I read the novel but couldn't get past a few chapters in 😂 (I like the character but I guess at the time I'm also quite tired with life in general) but I still know the general outline of the novel and so I have quite a high expectations for this drama especially because I also love both main leads (especially Cheng Lei who is really really really good at conveying the aura of a general and a leader😍)

Just want to express my views here, I'm only at ep 18 so far. For context, I did read the first few chapters of the but didn't finished it. I do know the general outline of the novel though. There'll be a tiny bit of spoiler, not that much so I won't use the spoiler tag.

Firstly, I think the drama is quite a low quality ( I mean the lighting of the scenes and not the storyline). But also maybe because I compare the scenes with Prisoner of Beauty.

Second, I really really like our Zhou Ye😍. She perfectly shows different persona with different people. When she's just being herself, when she's being a general and when she's killing people. You can see how different she is. My favourite would be during the boat scene where she confess to Xiao Jue , she's never truly herself with people. She is never He Yan, which makes me so sad 💔😭 our girl did not shed a single tear AT ALL while saying it. Also, I did not doubt for one bit how she falls for Xiao Jue 😂. Everything is believable, she already knows Xiao Jue as a person from before and she also admit his face is very attractive (even calling him a pretty boy in her monologue at one point)

Third, I just feels like Xiao Jue falls quite fast. I know he did admire her perseverance especially after knowing she's a woman, but still it just feels a little fast. Or maybe the romance is kinda like falling bit by bit 🤔 I did see how he can falls for her after a while, but in the drama the moment he catches feelings for her is just, well, too early to my liking.
(But, I guess his childhood is not exactly like He Yan where it was filled with vigilance, it's more normal. It's just that he's in the military. )

Lastly, I can't wait to watch the rest of the episodes 😁

I'm just at episode 11. Tbh, I feel conflicted. SYM is kinda cold with the way she treat NH. But then I remembered how NH tried to kill SYM many times the first few episodes. So, it makes sense that she has that perspectives of him. 😅 So now whenever I feel SYM is cruel, I just remind myself how she only knows the NH that tried to kill her and not the pitiful side.

Same... I actually fast forward the boundary scene 😭Also Hongye cave scene after that, his eyes is too telling, it reminds me of when I lost my dad. I can feel the heartache so bad 😭... I only watch normal speed during divine fire villa till the end.

Just finished watching the drama. It's really good 👍🏻. I like the way their story develops. The main couple actually have chemistry and also they look more like normal people. They don't overdo it. I have some reservations about this drama because of the unexpected pairing. I actually 😂 even feel guilty because of it, because it is EXACTLY why Hao Liang rejects Gu Jiuli in the drama. Even Hao Liang said, their appearance don't really match as she actually looks too young like a kid.
And the ending 😭 it's sad for me because the drama is too good, I want more of it. But I can also accept this ending. Honestly I have gotten used to have the leads getting married so honestly that abrupt ending took me off guard 😂.
Everyone's character is consistent and no boring misunderstanding. The ending I think in some way represents the real life. By the end, Hao Liang is 21 years old and Gu Jiuli 31 years old. Gu Jiuli is quite stable in his life but Hao Liang isn't.

Honestly there's one character, C , his acting is kinda overboard even if he's supposed to be only 23 years old. His character is a genius who got into university at 15 and got double masters by 19. He just feels too childish, I mean the way he act. I've known someone in real life who got into university at 16, we can see he's young but not that childish though. So I don't know why his character acts like that.

But overall, I think the drama is really good. Would rewatch it again some other time.

Just finished the drama 2 days ago, and I need to rant. So bear with me lol.

I love most of the scenes and the way they change the drama makes more sense for modern viewers, so it's actually a blessing they change some parts from the novel. BUT the essence is the same LIKE EXACTLY THE SAME. The way Wei Shao cares for Manman and takes care of her is still there. I didn't like the part where they show Wei Shao's army is losing but I realise that kind of scenes is more relatable because we can never expect what will happen. Like Manman said, we can never expect what will happen in the future. I can accept some changes like the big fight they have because it was done so well. The director really change up the story.

From what I remember Wei Shao in the novel is so formidable that the only real betrayal and hurt he felt comes from Manman. Also, I agree with the comments that said Zhang Pu and the uncle's death in the drama is not satisfying. In the novel, the uncle actually did love the Qiao family and got so angry at Zhang Pu for making his brother blind. Zhang Pu bring the uncle's head to Wei Shao to ask him to spare his life and that's when he tells Wei Shao about Manman telling the Qiao family to strengthen their army. Zhang Pu added the story by saying it's to guard against Wei Shao, though in reality its just so that they don't rely on other nations in the future. After Manman comes to Wei Shao to tell the truth, they had the big fight, and Wei Shao got so angry that he cut off Zhang Pu's head directly in front of Manman.

I also have that gut feeling when they send Wei Liang alone. In the novel, Wei Liang comes with an army and he was the only survivor.

Overall, I really recommend this to people who wants to watch the hardcore enemy to lovers trope. Will rewatch it again next week. >.<
