Never heard that rumor. In the novel a modern girl travels to Shao Shangs body right at the start and takes over. I imagine Shao Shangs soul left since she was really sick and about to die.

I just think that Ling Buyi should have thought it through better. He told her to stay away from the politics, and yet she is forced to deal with all these royals on her own simply because that is the way it is. So when he told her not to get involved with the "power struggle" he should have told her BEFOREHAND why it is a bad idea to do certain things.

Since Shao Shang really cares for the empress, she will want to protect her and try to make her happy. If it weren't politics this would have been just a good thing. But blaming her for wanted to make the empress happy is wrong. He knows that SS has affection for the empress, so he should just have taken more time to actually have a discussion with her.
