Yeah it was really sad :(((( In the novel it's Jiurong who sacrifices himself for Xiyun as he is a general there. So I totally did not expect that they would actually kill Han Pu instead.

Well first of all the government has set a limit to 40 episodes, which is why many of the bigger productions has been cut into two so they can air more episodes. Another reason is because of the censorship I believe. Everything gets reviewed and not everything passes their criteria which is why some shows gets less episodes.

Well we see Feng Chang smiling at the leads wedding and that is the last we see of him. So I guess he just lives peacefully.
Feng Ju does not have a happy ending as he is demoted to commoner and then sees his mother hanged. So he had a mental breakdown.

With there being a timeskip I was worried I would not really connect to the older Han Pu, but I feel that the actor did a really good job and worked well with Lusi and Yang Yang. Timeskips can go either way I think, some I connect with and some not.

So about Han Pu in the last episodes.

Episode 35.

Part 1 has been changed to 29 episodes and part 2 will have 28 if all goes well.

Well Lanxi has like 10 carriages following them since he is even more picky xD But he talks about getting a house at some point. If you mean Zhong Li, he continues to follow Lanxi.

It would be nice yes. But maybe since he gave her so many years of his life she can't give it back because then she just dies again? Idk but we can all pretend they live a long and happy life if we want to.

The novel ends with them going off continuing their adventure and your not told how long he lives after it.

It's fine to be disappointed :D Well an 8 is still quite good so watching it was a total bust at least.

Leo and Yang Yang was in the first whirlwind girl together though. So it's close but not that close xD

I had some snacks during ep 39 but did not refill during 40 since I could not eat because of the emotions being thrown at me xD A bit to early for dinner here yet but snacks is okay! Enjoy your food.

I really like it! The first episodes were not the best but then it got really fun imo. But I read in the comments sections about what people thought of the ending that had probably been cut and edited and decided to stop at the happy part of it haha.
