I’m only on episode 13. Just want to say I love the interactions between FL and Qian qian. Both so beautiful intelligent kind and genuine. Both actresses doing superb job in this drama.
Here I go again! Every night watching this I can’t help but write about how amazing this is. I feel so impressed that such pure, deep and nuanced romance and passion can develope between the couples in this simple and harsh environment. Without any of the fancy dates, gifts, vacations, and artifice that we use today to impress the opposite sex. Even more so that it can endure so much hardship. It is so hard to find today, and something many of us probably wish for.
I have to say- the actress playing Ms Xu the director did a great job. The exaggerated way she talks and facial expressions makes me laugh. very talented older generation actress!
For someone who’s watched too many dramas and now easily bored with most things, I can’t believe how charming, original, and sweet this is.
Love the main couple.
But I enjoyed even more the push-pull, and full-of-tension dynamic and romance of Mu jing and Qu Hua. This couple is perfected casted- Mu jing tried to be tough as steel, but is so delicate and feminine inside. And it doesn’t hurt to have Ben from White Olive Tree- very handsome sexy man :)
someone with better perspective please explain to me- why these young people go on 1 date, or see each other a few times- then jump straight to proposal or marriage?? isn’t it too quick? was that the norm back in 1980s?

yes, one dimensional character- FL - too intelligent, cold, calculating, foresee everything, playing everyone. limited facial expressions, not interesting as a romance character.

yep, there is no vulnerability to her, which makes her character kind of 1 dimensional- cold, calculating, manipulative, all knowing, playing everyone with a little smirk. It doesn’t work for romance.
I like to be hopeful and think they can fix things some way some how and I acted as such in these past few episodes…
agree with you, this whole show end up being about how amazing calculating shrewd cold the FL is and she can fool everyone. It’s not balanced. I also found her huge eyes not very expressive- in that it always looked blank or slowly calculating. Her whole face is either blank, or only a hint of smile. her face is beautiful but boring to look at over time. if I were a man, this is not the woman I would want. And the romance is lacking in this drama, it doesn’t really hit you ever, part due to the writing/directing, also. partly because of FL personality. she is never truly open or vulnerable.
