I'm quite surprised to learn that this drama is a big production because I recently rewatched Love Like the Galaxy, yet the visual journey, the sets, the extras, and the special effects seem really better. I know this drama had to wait because the actress was the victim of a controversy, but I feel like this drama is really under-budgeted. For a historical drama, it was a light journey in terms of love and comedy, which I appreciated. But in terms of the story, there are quite a few gaps. The political side was too heavily neglected. The intensity of the resentment between the Wei and Qiao was easily swept under the rug, which slowed down the pace of the story. I would have liked to find at least 20% of Wei Shao from the novel. Even his love for Manman did not easily obscure his perception of the Qiao. He did not want to easily give Boya to Bi Zhi. This drama was good with some strong moments but it lacked seriousness and stakes for me it's a 9/10 because the actors were all simply amazing they gave us the best.

Bi Zhi was exceptional in the novel even Wei can't compare to him, he was a good man an excellent general he sincerely cared for his people and he was an exceptional lover and husband. Without education or advisor he became a genius general intelligent and capable of overthrowing Wei Shao, his fighting skills were above those of Wei Shao. He was the true prisoner of beauty because despite the death of Da Qiao he remained devoted to her, and in the second timeline after having Da Qioa by his side he was ready to give up power for her, he was so sweet to her. Da Qioa and Bi Zhi were a beautiful and harmonious couple, they were such honest people and grateful to Manman the drama did not succeed in honoring these two. It was a good drama all the same

She wanted to hold him back and tell him that she didn't want him to leave, but she kept her feelings to herself, pretending she wanted to take advantage of the moment to hide the distress she couldn't express. At times, her teasing was too exaggerated, playing with Ml's emotions; most of the time, she was stoic and didn't let her emotions overflow to externalize her emotions. DaQiao's choice was stupid, but it wasn't bad. When the time comes, at least BZ will be by her side. Some people only look at strategic interests because XQ is smart and had a better education than DQ. She always had to be on the lookout for his moods. His character developed, and in the end, he understood, but it was too tedious. Mixing Bi Zhi's and Wei Shao's personalities to create this new character was truly the director's best decision. I also like Manman more in the drama because she has an active role. But the political side and the stakes were really neglected, which is a shame, but you can't have everything.

Wei Shao constantly sent his men to attack Boya but they suffered several defeats because Bi Zhi guarded and firmly led his men, Wei Shao worried about Bi Zhi's growing power and his undeniable qualities as a competent general, Wei Shao fought with Bizhi who easily pushed him back he was angry that the Qiao family could have such a competent person to protect them, so he was rude and sent his men to retrieve Boya without success. I didn't like DaQiao's choice but it wasn't cowardice. She knows nothing about politics, scheming or strategy, yet she had the strength to protect Bi Zhi. She simply understands that Bi Zhi must constantly fight against neighboring cities without the help of other leaders, all for her own safety. While she was waiting for help from the state of Wei so that Bi Zhi could reassert his hold on Boya, because the fighting to keep Boya was too constant and violent, they were refused. She saw Bi Zhi injured and couldn't bear it. He could die at any moment because of the frequent battles of the invaders from Boya, and she chose not to put him in more danger. She kept Bi Zhi in the dark because she knew he would have supported Qiao Man's choice out of gratitude. Her choice was not intelligent but far from being cowardly she is ready to let the world burn for her man just as Bi Zhi is ready to die to see her happy. She can give her life for Manman but cannot sacrifice Bi Zhi's, in the novel Manman's father said Wei Shao that his daughter was not born to pay her family's debt, and for Da Qioa Bi Zhi was not born to repay Qioa Man's gratuitousness towards her (especially since Manman wanted to use Bi Zhi to protect his city and his family). Manman's love is genuine she is a good person but she does not necessarily care about Bi Zhi's safety, this man is constantly fighting to keep boya and he cannot send other characters to fight for him because he represents security for his men.
