I think it's connected to the ML's parent's deaths from some fire, for which he is currently investigating, The interesting thing is that he's supposed to be some kind of celestial monk but he clearly is developing feelings for her so we'll see where that goes. You're right that things would be much easier if they'd trust each other but I think some writers think it's better to draw things out. I really like the snake lady in this one. She's doesn't take any flack.

Finally, a 40 episode drama. So many have premiered with way fewer episodes this year..

Kokuto said it was filmed in 2021. I'm not sure why it was held back. I think that didn't help with the outdated look. The slow twirls as they jump off the roof aren't the way they film things these days.
