I think I probably can understand why the production team chose to use AI for those two childhood flashbacks scenes on episode 4.
Those two abusive/killing scenes involved 4 children. For those who screamed anti AI in this series, have you ever thought about using 4 children to experience a 2 minutes abusive/killing scenes?
Only less than 5 minutes, yet the effects would probably big.
Perhaps the children might experience trauma, perhaps the parents would sue the production team, perhaps the people/watchers would condemn the production team for making such decision.
So many perhaps, but still possibly happens. Better safe than sorry I believe.
Children's mental health is way more important than this.
The AI usage on this series is not that much. Aside from those 2 scenes of episode 4, the other distinctive one is probably at the beginning of first episode.
The AI usage does not ruin the entire story, does not affect the characters' emotions, struggles, and chemistry that the series tries to convey.
In terms of story, from the first to the last episode, it's quite solid. No sudden changes in the mid episodes, and still true to the source. Milder than the book but still follow it through.
Feng Nong is quite notorious in writing toxic/tragedy/sad ending yaoi/josei books.
Just watch if you don't mind AI usage but no need to bad-mouth it just because you dislike AI.

As for the youngsters, he could be said as a tyrant because he used some kind of extreme suppressive methods to those who went against him/his govt at that time.
As for the first lady she is said to be kind-hearted, quite close to people, and very attentive on the matters of children and health issues.

Kataoka really knows how to show his love and also makes profit from it.

Teacher Jang, it is very difficult and hard to be a good teacher.
It's not just typical refreshing drama that you want to watch after having a hectic working day.
It is a drama that you will watch to challenge and 'train' your mind to understand the schemming, the manipulation and the likes.
Nevertheless, Li Xian and Li Yi Tong successfully delivered this drama in a great manner.
Worth to watch if you are into such a schemming drama.
The whole crews, talents, actors, the production company are from Hongkong [except for Kingston that comes from Macau]
They don't use any talents from China mainland at all.
They're quite proud about this because they have wanted to produce BL dramas fully by themselves.

The kiss is not the passionate youngsters kissing scene, it's more like a dead fish kiss.
But for this series, such kiss is in line with the main characters personalities, and for me it's quite sweet.

I think that's why many South Korean conservative politicians complained about such historical distortion matters.
Looking at those veteran actors, feels like watching old wuxia movies all over again. Kudos to the production team.
