Hello, allow me to explain a bit about the ending part.
The main plot is about surviving inside the virtual game. Once they install and log on the game, they automatically lived inside the game until they suceeded and survived the game.
Ruan Lanzhu is an NPC that created by Gao Dawei to assist Ling Jiushi to survive inside the game.
The main purpose of their journey is to purify the game because it has been used to control people and caused so many deaths.
At the ending, Ruan Lanzhu and Ling Jiushi finally managed to survived and reached the last door [12th door]
The last door only can be activated by Ruan Lanzhu because he is the 'key' or we can say the 'program' that needed to purify the game.
After the game was purified, everything returned to the normal world before the game exist. Everyone didn't retain the memory of their life inside the virtual game world [except Ling Jiushi].
Ling Jiushi felt devastated of losing Ruan Lanzhu and his Obsidian family worked to rebuild the Spiritual Realm.
It took him 50 years to create everything and everyone [in a form of NPC] back inside the Spiritual Realm.
When he finally made it, he decided that he wanted to leave his real world and spend the rest of his life inside The Spiritual Realm that he had created, to live with his Ruan Lanzhu and Obsidian Family.
I think that's the ending based on my own interpretation. Hope it can help you to understand the ending and the series in general.

Thanks! "the elusive prince" in the literal sense that he cannot be found? This means Xiao Se is still…
That Jin Xuan's scene happened 15 years before, he probably used that word to describe Xiao Se's stance of refusing the throne and leaving Tianqi to wander around Jianghu.
[If you remember at the last episode of TBOY and the 5 minutes special episode, Xiao Se and the other 3 left Tianqi.]
There is a slight error on the English subtitles for episode 1.
When Jin Xuan told the story about Tianzhan, based on the Chinese [traditional] subtitles
It's supposed to be: Piฤohลซ de wรกngzว [the elusive prince]
It's not Tร izว [crown prince]
I think this is supposed to be the spin off the original The Blood of Youth, because the time setting is around 15 years after Xiao Se's battle with Luo Qingyang [Tianzhan's appearance]
I guess although it is not written by Zhou Munan, it probably got approval from him. [Youku broadcast all of Zhou Munan's series, including the animation.]
Actually Ruan Lanzhu is the representative of the ideal hero according to LJS and also oart of Gao Dawei's personality.
The actor who played Gao Dawei n Ruan Lanzhu are the same tho.

It has more scary scenes but has a happy ending.
The series is less scary with a bittersweet ending.
LanJiu lived happily with their Obsidian family inside the Spiritual Realm.
Some said it's just a dream, some said [including me] it really happened.
Different people will have different understanding, different interpretation, different opinion.
If you miss them, can't move on, then welcome to the club. Many of us have rewatched this series again and again.

He almost dropped it but RLZ managed to save it but it had cracked.
RLZ then swapped it with his in order to protect LJS. LJS finally knew about it after almost being killed by the door god.
Happy second anniversary for our LanJiu and Obsidian family.

The 78 episodes [20mnts per episode] is the old format.
The one that's been broadcast is the new format, 38 episodes with 40mnts duration per episode.
There's no difference in the content between the old and new format, except for the opening and ending song on the new format.
I hope you can enjoy the series just like us here.
Many of us have watched this series for more than once because this series is really good and worth the time and effort to watch it.
