From what I read on Twitter/X, Kataoka actually knew he was being tailed by the van and would be kidnapped, that's why at the end of Ep 02, he asked such question to Odajima.
As for Odajima he was totally distracted by Kataoka's words about his reason for marrying him.
Teacher Jang would take a career counselor certification. No more teaching at school for him. He probably realised his mistakes [caring too much that misunderstood by the student]
As for Hyeon Jae, as long as his father held his mother captive, he would never be free.
There might never be season 2, because then the main story would completely different.
It would definitely turn into another ordinary family drama, no longer about teacher-student matter anymore.
For many people, teacher-student relationship is a taboo topic/genre to be put in a show while in reality, it happens.
What I see here in the drama is not just a casual lover relationship, but more from the psychological pov why such thing happens.
Many broken/hurt students out there that needed their teachers' support to overcome their troubles.
Smoking, doing drugs, messy family background, being in love with the teachers, rebellious actions, bullying, sadly to say are pretty common issues that exist in schools especially in high schools.
Such students need to be 'handled with care' or else more troubles might occur.
I guess this might be one of many reasons why this series is produced.
Some series/dramas/movies are produced as a learning tool, to deliver the important messages to society.
If it is not comfortable to be watched, you just need to know that what happen to Hyeon Jae and teacher Jang, to Jeong Ha and that addicted student, and even to Ji Tae, those really exist in the real world.
Consider this drama as a learning lesson for us to be more aware and care for our children.
My personal guess : the ending is probably more to bittersweet/sad ending. Either way, I have prepared myself for such ending.
