WTAF! I was ecstatic on the 11th thinking this is a great one to follow up since The Romance of Little Forest ends the day this is set to premiere. Told myself I’ll wait a few days so some more eps would drop and I come here to find WE HAVE BEEN CLOWNED AGAIN?!?!
Wow. I did not expect this! So much better than I thought! I read that they changed directors at the end and I could I tell the difference but overall it was great relationships for the ML/FL and with specific notable supports! The good - I haven’t seen a good wuxia like this in awhile. I know this was compared to TLB but I find that less wuxia than this one was. The first 1/3 was some pretty good wuxia that was almost comparable to the good ol’ wuxia from TVB HK. IYKYK! - I DID feel the chemistry of this CP! It was portrayed accurately. They were Jianghu leaders and their love is always portrayed different from modern or xianxia romance. It’s more stoic but ZLS and YY really pushed that simmering romance to the forefront! - this was my first time seeing YY and OMG I loved the bangs and hairstyle of HFX 🫦❤️🫦❤️ - wow to ZLS being so versatile. She’s definitely upped her game from romcom or weak princess to true FL of Jianghu - I love the RELATIONSHIPS. I loved that there was a solid relationship and so grateful that Qiwu and BFX and FLX and FC could maintain their bonds throughout. - supporting actors were good - I AM PARTICULARLY EXTRA HERE FOR ZHONG LI (Huang Yi). I’ve watched so many of his shows that I feel like I’m watching him grow up. His acting gets better and better and I look forward to him being a lead one day! I see him being a future Wu Lei/Leo Wu! - Yay we even got a wedding scene!
The not good: - uh why is Xiyun’s reveal so anticlimactic. that was poorly done - why were there so many battles and rescues in last 3-4 eps. you should have spent that time on YWY’s death battle or telling more of his bg story and the curse! - what happens to ZHONG LI?!?!! What happened to BLH and her going to investigate the border? h what happens to Princess CS and her drive to be a ruling monarch…I mean empress is meh. - what were these random time jumps? - I mean really , after being married for 5 years they didn’t have kids?? - I fast forwarded most of that middle part with harem/court intrigue and YWY and HC plots - this devoted son-father relationship that Lanxi maintains is toxic and BS. I mean come on he beat the crap out of you and kept trying to take you out - when all of FXY’s family died, they couldn’t include FLX’s appearance to comfort her before the tower scene? Unbelievable.
Overall this was so much better than I thought! I’m now a super fan of YY and hope he does more costume dramas!!!!

It’s so weird. Miao Ying and Ning Ming ended up together but he STALKED her for so long and so many years. It’s super toxic and extremely creepy. Tiffany and LJ end up together but it’s so unbelievable. They never set up how they could even like each other

He starts putting it together that she’s smart since the time they spent in her village. He started really realizing it when he helped her do the social media video on Chinese Valentines Day in her village. And then he’s totally a lost cause when he goes overseas and realizes he really loves her

It was a series of things he put together. Between seeing her social media opened when she was babysitting his bro, she showed him her bird photos on her camera and they were on social media and his lab partner also is close to MR’s old professor so he knows she was being a substitute for him. It’s all explained in either ep 34 or 35
They really left no ability for her to have a redemption moment. Or assistant Fang. I literally don’t need closure…
Def after. There was conflict created when JX fired Tang as MR’s assistant for a supposed mistake and thus it made Tang bitter even though MR didn’t know she was fired and thought she left voluntarily

Finally some resolution! It was so good I got wrapped up in it and even watched the 2nd lead scenes!
I’m mad the 👄💋 were shortened but dang was I wrapped up in ZBB’s 🫦… I mean the “plot”.
I’m kind of anxious to meet the MIL last and for ZY to go on another trip, but man when Professor ZY is ready to open his heart for love, he ain’t playing. It’s like he wants to possess MR at any dang time.
