Don’t you remember the lie (admittedly one of many) that LH told about the sachet originally? He said he got it from a body on the beach, when, of course, it was his all along. I think LH gave the sachet to the homeless man and told him what to say, knowing full well it would bring FDB and DFS.

Then why would he be smiling? On the whole, amnesiac people are not cheerful about it. And the different hairstyle is because the Emperor really doesn’t want him around and he has to adopt a new physical image…
I live in the UK and I can find no trace of a UK company broadcasting this drama. Youku doesn’t legally exist…
Oh, I absolutely adored Mysterious Lotus Casebook which demonstrates your point perfectly! Yes: Viki has a Korean series which has apparently done well; I didn’t even manage more than 10 minutes of it. Viki ratings are always very high by comparison with other channels; to me that’s a bug but to others it’s a feature. And running credits over the most important parts of the drama is downright insane in my view but is part of the Viki brand. I am glad that you are happy with the outcome of your favourite show.

Anything thought to undermine the stability of the Chinese state. Thus, successful revolutions and, for reasons known only the Chinese state, being gay. I shall now try to go back to sleep; enjoy, wherever you are 🤩

A further thought occurs: the Emperor has no heir beyond his daughter, and a woman becoming Empress in her own right in China is very close to inconceivable.
The Emperor may have reasons of his own for wanting LLH alive but not identified with his former selves. After all, FDB would be unlikely to assist the Princess in eliminating a new found heir who turns out to be his master and his dearest friend, and DFS is not only uninterested in politics, but is LLH’s *other* dearest friend.
Yet more intriguing possibilities, and as LLH remarks to DFS whilst they sip wine in the wedding room, ‘Life is interesting’. It certainly is!
Must get some sleep as it is late here in the U.K.; thank you for your interesting comment.
Congratulations to all the supporters..... LOA has a 5.9 Douban rating. 5*: 10.5%4*: 15.9%3*: 37.5%2*: 27.3%1*:…
I live in the UK and I can find no trace of a UK company broadcasting this drama. Youku doesn’t legally exist here; it can only be accessed using a VPN, and by definition Youku couldn’t analyse viewing via that. I watched it on Viki and found it uphill work, particularly in the second half. An awful lot of skipping needed…
I think the scriptwriters did an excellent job in crafting the open ending to get it past the censors. After all, although LLH didn’t do anything as obviously horrific from the censors’ perspective as overthrowing a government, he is a remarkably accomplished liar who not only keeps lying but coaches FDB through lying to the Emperor. And, now I come to think of it, the only person who says that the Emperor needed the flower to cure his poisoning is LLH himself…
Good questions! I’m rewatching it myself for the same reasons but I keep getting distracted by the overall plot.…
I agree. This predilection in Chinese novels for the hero suffering horribly at the end does rather baffle me but I think it’s more a question of immature writing technique than a logical consequence of everything which has gone before. That and the ever present fear of the censors…

Good questions! I’m rewatching it myself for the same reasons but I keep getting distracted by the overall plot. The thing which really stands out is that the question of LXY’s fate is the last mystery of the Lotus casebook; the scriptwriters have left it to us to solve it. The one point which I think should be stressed is that the dog didn’t have his nose down on the beach at the end, searching for LXY’s scent, as he would undoubtedly have done if they couldn’t see LXY - remember that a dog can pick up a scent from a couple of weeks earlier. I think that this is a riff on the Sherlock Holmes Story where the most important clue is the dog not barking during the night…
global? or just a few countries like till the end of the moon?
I am a far more simple soul; I don’t like women dubbed with squeaky voices. I am perfectly happy with all the other things you mentioned. In fact I positively like the things you mentioned whereas harem and court politics, unless they are very well done, bore me. Of course, I have long had a soft spot for The Peony Pavilion which compares extremely favourably to Romeo and Juliet when it comes to the role of young women so I cannot help but feel that the squeaky voices are a distinctly retrograde step…

Netflix has The Untamed here in the UK, and some other Chinese dramas but it doesn’t have this show. I was trying to watch it on Viki but gave up in despair…
I increasingly think of this as the last mystery to be solved in the Lotus Casebook; the scriptwriters set it up like for those who really got into the spirit of things 😊
