Found it! Or at least one version of it; I watched the movie version. It’s calledWhat’s Wrong with My Princess, it was originally short episodes- less than 10 minutes and it’s allegedly been watched 457K times in two months.

I can’t find it at the moment. The awful thing is that when I put into YouTube the search string ‘murdered by my husband Chinese historical’ the 4th answer is Story of Kunning Palace EP1.
I didn’t think that the FL in it was murdered by her husband so how on earth YouTube is pulling that up is beyond me. I will keep looking but if I add in the fact that she was a general I get vast numbers of answers…

Sadly it was not. The FL had been a general fighting for her country before she became wicked, was murdered and was reincarnated a couple of years earlier in her own life. She then set about not being wicked and succeeded. It’s just very unlucky for the actors in Story of Kunning Palace that releasing it in November after at least two dramas with a similar plot makes it less attractive. And I have to say that the music in the first episode was pretty dire; they were riffing on the soundtrack of the X-Files for the scary bits. And using sepia filters to indicate flashbacks. But from your comments it seems as if it was just a problematic first impression and I shall pick it up and try again. There certainly are strange things happening to the ratings of the show here on MDL; I didn’t realise that people could be so unscrupulous.

I was very disappointed with the first episode because I had seen a drama on YouTube with a very similar story but judging from the comments I think I will give it another try. It occurs to me that the introduction that they tacked on about it all being a novel meant that they had to cut scenes and rejig others which threw the whole episode off balance. Thank you for explaining it!

Yes; I would imagine that iQIYI makes far more money from its sales in the internal market than internationally, but please do explain what the issue in May was about. I assumed that they had to tack on stuff about it being a novel to get it past the reincarnation rules, but was there anything else?

But iQIYI said that they were releasing it next year, and then dumped it into the market now with no warning or advance publicity. This is an eccentric way of doing business…

So I rewrote my long reply to you and it was so long that I looked at it and thought that it would be easier to write a fic, which just goes to show how dumb one can be. Writing dialogue for Di Feisheng is almost as hard as writing dialogue for Lan Wangji 😥 But here I am, a fortnight later, after spending time researching the date upon which the Chinese started using saddles amongst other things, with a fic which I think is true to the characters and doesn’t deviate from canon. Or at any rate, it can’t be proved to deviate from canon and is, I think, a bit closer to the character of at least Di Feisheng than the ending we were given, not least because if Li Lianhua had died as a result of the Emperor’s actions then Di Feisheng would have taken him out, and to hell with the consequences. It’s called “The Crescent Moon “, is up on AO3, and is all your fault 😂

I signed up for it because of Mysterious Lotus Casebook - as you could probably guess - but I am sorry that you haven’t been able to see the last episodes yet. I hope that you enjoy them!

I dislike the mother so much that I almost stopped watching it altogether early in the series; since then I have just fast forwarded through all of her scenes…

I have been away on holiday; my apologies for taking so long to reply to you. I think perhaps you underestimate Di Feishing in particular but also Fang Duobing. In reality A’Fei would have killed the Emperor for taking the Styx flower and leaving Li Lianhua to die slowly from the Bichu poisoning. It’s entirely contrary to his character to imagine that he would have accepted it because he was a “good” emperor; that’s what Li Lianhua would do, but he’s a hero and we all know what A’Fei thinks about heroes…

There’s nothing at all about it on the British Viki channel, not even in the “coming soon” section. And episode 11 on iQIYI has just died on me; perhaps when they resurrect it they will have translated the texts …

Oh, I read your comment carefully. It is your belief that you can tell the contents of a 40 episode series by reading a synopsis that I question. For example, the synopsis states that the main character “travels dragging around a lotus tower.” He doesn’t. There are, unsurprisingly, horses involved, since even the finest of martial artists would have difficulties in dragging a two storey house behind him. If you don’t even notice such an obvious error, how can you expect people to take what you say seriously?

I understand that you are upset because a programme you like has received what you believe to be misleading statistics on its viewership, but lashing out at programmes you haven’t even watched is unlikely to impress people with your judgement. Quite the reverse.

I watched the first few episodes of My Lovely Liar on Viki and moved from fast forwarding to dropping it altogether because it seemed to me to be dull, clichéd and repetitive. That doesn’t mean that other people won’t enjoy it, just that I didn’t…
