I've watched Western movies/series for a very long time. I discovered Asian movies/dramas and I've dropped all…
I use Viki, Netflix and IQ. And many times Youtube (using ads free app) )dramas. That's my entertainment especially with Covid, we have not been able to go anywhere. But still, Asian dramas are the best. One day, when the spirit moves me, I'll try to write a list of my most favorite Asian dramas/movies and why! Spirit not there yet. Yes, foreign films in general are much better.
Remember, the big American money movie machines saw Parasite's success and now they are going to Americanize Asian movies. I agree, episodes are too long (except for Japanese ones) and the second male or female contest is getting very annoying. There are a few things that should be changed, just like the holding of hands for 30 or 40 year olds, not too realistic and rather submissive female leads is another problem.
I've said this once, and I'll say it again, there's a reason why people moved away from watching Western tv shows…
I've watched Western movies/series for a very long time. I discovered Asian movies/dramas and I've dropped all American movies/dramas. One problem is the female roles are still usually submissive or indirect with few exceptions. That is still my hangup but all in all, I have not watched a Western movie/drama in a long time.
Watch Princess Man or Flower of Evil or even Painter of the Wind, actress Moon Chae Won is also a capable actor…
Thanks for the suggestions and I've watched Flower of Evil. Although the amnesia at the end was useless at best. FOE is one of the best series I've watched. Thanks again. Yes, Song is amazing especially in Vincenzo. His stoic face, eye expressions, fantastic!
I've watched the series Gomorrah - pretty interesting! But is the leader's name Vincenzo?
Yes, you are right, I also read about the camorra organization on wikipedia. after you mentioned it in your comment. All in all, Vincenzo series might hit "The Godfather" fame :-) Thanks Prathg!
I was thinking about that too. Joong Ki’s acting is Oscar-worthy.
Thanks! The last scene of Ep 16 with Joong Ki was Oscar-worthy for sure. I still have shivers after watching the last few minutes. This series needs some significant awards. Like Parasite, it is far above most other series. However we still have 4 more episodes to go. I'm holding my breath that they don't resort to the overused tropes. The postponing of Ep 17 concerns me.
I'm waiting for the end to see how it goes but somehow this series needs to win some special award. The acting on the part of Song Ki, and Ok Taec was spectacular. Realizing that Parasite won the Academy Award, I feel this series should be recognized for something. As an American watching Asian series, preferring over American movies, I realized that I made the switch because of dramas like Vincenzo and others before it. Yes, we all sat at the edge of our seat, screaming at the TV, but it wasn't only the suspense, the OST, the acting and the lack of tropes, it's all of it combined. Thank you Netflix too.
I didn't like Descendants of the Sun. I kept forcing myself to watch it but the FL turned me off. I almost finished…
Surgeries are easy to skip for me too :-) I loved Sandra in Love me if you Dare and that drama is a rewatch for sure Just not enough Sandra and Bai in YAMH time.
I love men in uniform which is the main reason I liked CLOY. So I searched for other military dramas and got Descendants…
I didn't like Descendants of the Sun. I kept forcing myself to watch it but the FL turned me off. I almost finished it but I gave up on it. You are My Hero is very different. It comes off as more genuine. I'm on Ep 18. There is one aspect of YAMH that gets a bit technical: the surgeries and the SWAT practices. Lots of view time is spent on those parts and less on the personal relationships between the 3 couples. I would have preferred more of the second than the first. Too much information so to speak in details. Having said that, I think it is very much worth watching - Yes, a bit on the Chinese propaganda but the series is sweet, interesting, detailed and Yes, please watch it!
